Years later and nearly 40,000 views, You have saved a few folks (Including Me ) a lot of grief by identifying this problem. Add me to the list of folks that resealed the Ram assembly only to still have the same problem. Your Efforts led me to removing the Manual bypass valve only to find the rear O-Ring missing a small chunk and allowing it to bleed down as you described...... Thank You...
Thanks a TON for taking the time to share your experience! I had the same problem and after seeing your video I went right to the manual release assembly and replaced it with OEM parts and that took care of it.when I was taking the old one out 1 of the O rings was stuck inside but I was able to fish it out with a small screwdriver. Putting the new one in, I first poured new OEM power trim hydraulic fluid over the new part and had to press it in a little bit in order to get to the threads. the oil lose was so minimal I didn't have to add any. God bless you!
Just made my day! I'm having literally the same exact issue with my 95 and I suspected it was that from what I read online and your video confirmed it... or rings on order you saved my summer my man!
Thanks for doing this! Found the small inner O'ring for the manual relief valve at Tractor Supply for 2 bucks (for 10) to replace the trashed one that was causing the engine tilt slowly going down after it went up. The size is 1/"4 inside diameter, 3/8" Outside diameter, Thickness is 1/16". P/N 51140. Again Thank you for the tip....huge time and headache saver!
Hey there. I think this is my issue as well. I cannot find any videos or instructions on doing this? Can you share if there is one? Or, if you can advise how. When you get the screw out do you lose all the fluid? any guidance on how to replace would be great. Thanks.
Man, I had the exact same issue. Ive replaced all o-rings inside the tilt expect that two bottom bolts, I was afraid to mess it up, it looked bad to try to take it out...... , so i left them be and my tilt was still dropping. I think you just made my day, I guess I will have to try that without breaking it. Thanks!

Must look at mine also. Just added fluid, goes up down, but may still have a slow leak. Will go to a Merc dealer and inquire about this item. Thanx for your tip. Must keep our $10.00 boat healthy! Won in a draw a few years ago.
Thanks Man! I'm experiencing the same issue. I suspected the manual release but bought the entire o-ring kit anyway. Now, I'm just going to replace the o-ring on the manual release and save the rest for any future leaks.
Awsome video ive got the same issue with a 50 hp jonno single ram did the same as you but didnt replace the release o rings will be doing them tomorrow cheers for the insight..
I have that same problem on my 1984 115 hp evinrude thanks 🙏 I could not find a video on this mine has snap ring around that screw you over tighten thanks again

thanks bro. ill look into my 115 hp johnson trim and tilt. i see no leak but does go down slowly about 3-5 min before it fully down. im having the same issue but i hope this will work for me too LOL
I have this same motor, my problem is tho it won’t go up without me holding the up button and lifting it up at the same time. It goes down just fine. Any idea on what’s causing it?
Hope you already fixed it, but grab it with a pair of needle nosed pliers and wiggle and pull after making sure you turned it counter clockwise enough to release the threads fully......Good Luck.
Anyone know why i tried this several times and it isnt working for me ? Also the oil is full and ot wont bring the motor up or down it falls down by itself and wonr even go up

The two o-rings to change are on the release valve itself?

How do you remove the top bushing that connects the arm to the motor? There is a thread inside the busing but it spins freely.
Thank you this fixed mine saved me a lot of time and money
I bought a complete new release valve. has 2 orings on it. are these the orings that you are referring to.....?
did not fix my leak down,,,,,
Im not sure if this will help but I used one of these to fix my 40HP slow leak too thanks to 2 cents, www.amazon.com/dp/B07FWBT6R9
or www.amazon.com/dp/B07G1CVRWL
Did you ever fix the problem?
Thanks for uploading! Maybe this srew has a momentum one needs to fasten it with.. we will probably be ordering a set of seals :)
Same exact problem, thanks fixed..
How tight did you tighten it after you replaced seals. Mine is doing the same thing
Be doing this tomorrow on my 96 mercury 90hp. Thanks
thanks bro. ill look into my 115 hp johnson trim and tilt. i see no leak but does go down slowly about 3-5 min before it fully down. im having the same issue but i hope this will work for me too LOL
did this fix ur 115?
it was actually on and off. some days it's stays and some days it doesnt. not really sure but i sold the boat LOL. but it helped.
Where did you buy everything from??
How did you take the screw (valve) off? Mine seems to not come off completely when loose.
I just unscrewed it but you may have to pull it after its loose with some pliers, make sure the motor is held up safely before you mess with it.

your trim switch relay is weak. Try switching the up and down relay with each other and if it has trouble going down then its the relay
Thanks. Same problem
Thanks, useful information brother .
How did you get that manual release valve out if you don't mind me asking?
you just un screw it, just make sure your motor is propped up safely
mine just seems to be turning in there. removed snap ring, still no luck
Hope you already fixed it, but grab it with a pair of needle nosed pliers and wiggle and pull after making sure you turned it counter clockwise enough to release the threads fully......Good Luck.
got it with pliers and pulled out.
Thanks for the upload. Did you just unscrew and rescrew the manual release. Can’t find that being done anywhere
I’m wondering this too. Did you ever figure out? When I try to unscrew mine, it won’t screw all the way out
tou lee. that fix ur 115?
Thanks for sharing. Problem solved
Which orings did you change?
Thank you had same problem!
Anyone know why i tried this several times and it isnt working for me ? Also the oil is full and ot wont bring the motor up or down it falls down by itself and wonr even go up
