      Analogue is rich in harmonics, which is very pleasant for our ears. But I love (the digital and) the virtual synths too! Kontakt, Omnisphere are among my favourites. And not forget the Roland Cloud!

    • @BarryWarne
      @BarryWarne 4 роки тому +9

      synth nuts? Careful there ; ) we prefer the term, "analogue synthesizer proponents of an obsessive nature' where analogue synthesizers are the central preoccupation of our lives. Pff ...'synth nuts' please

    • @philtowers1392
      @philtowers1392 3 роки тому

      In fairness, the dx7, wavestation, M1, akai samplers, etc were all digital. Mega analogue synths ruled up to say, 1985. After that, cheap digital tat. But it all has charm. the mid-late 80s was dominated by the dx7. If synths had stayed analogue, we wouldn’t all be involved; digital was the great democratizer. Anyway, neither here nor there, just a bit of history. Its a bloody great time to be into synths right now. Curtis chips back in production. Life is good.

    fabulous sounds, one of the best vintage synth, great basses, great leads, strange noises. Electronic but warm. Vintage but modern. A true 'odyssey' in the world of sounds. The real dream should be a polyphonic version... one day perhaps...

      Olivier Dahan The official Korg Arp Odyssei ipad app gives you 8 voice polyphony and the official korg collection vst version gives you 16 note polyphony. Recommend to try. It is a modern and (again) official emulation. sounds great! Also gives you detune and spread options for all mono, legato, duo, poly options!!

    • @BarryWarne
      @BarryWarne 4 роки тому

      I suppose the current Odyssey can be poly-chained with something like the Polyend Poly MIDI and USB to CV/Gate Eurorack Module, or the old Roland MPU-101

    • @KNHSynths
      @KNHSynths 4 роки тому

      @@BarryWarne I think the Behringer Odyssey has no poly-chain. But you can at least poly-chain a neutron for example. The neutron being the first in the chain in PyCh mode and paraphonic, then it will play notes 1 and 2 and the odyssey will play next notes.
      But even a true poly-chain mode on the Odyssey itself will certainly not be very attractive, the cost and the place needed will exceed the interest compared to a true polyphonic like the Deepmind or even a more luxurious prophet rev 2.

    Love your demo of the sounds of this great synth. I go to the music store to play it every week. Unless something earth shattering comes out in the next 3 months, the Korg Arp Odyssey is my next purchase. I have been playing with it in the music store for months now. It already feels like a part of the family. I had planned to get it this week but Native Instruments came out with Komplete Kontrol MK2 and I opted to put the Arp on hold. I'm kinda hoping that the full size Arp will be ready before Xmas so I can get that instead of the mini one

    Today we have quite a few Minimoog Model D clones or very similar synths (the Roland SE-02). I don't know if you ever thought about purchasing one, but Klaus Schulze, which, I suppose, we both appreciate, said in one interview that the Arp Odyssey is just better than Minimoog.
    _"For me the Minimoog has just two things that are good, the oscillators and the filters, better forget the rest."_

    • @scottlarson1548
      @scottlarson1548 6 років тому

      That was the decision I made in 1982 when buying my first synth. There was a used Minimoog and a used Mark III Odyssey. The store owner was really pushing the more expensive Minimoog ("Big fat sounds! Used by all the big rock stars!") but once I turned on oscillator sync, I heard sounds I couldn't make with the Minimoog. So add the ring modulator, the sample and hold, the AR + ADSR envelops, and all the switches that could send signals everywhere, and it was an *easy* decision.

      Love this Korg ARP and want to get it. But the Mini D reissues keybed is awesome and can' be overlooked. It not only feels great, it opens up more possibilities. People tend to forget about action but it's just as important for me. It's like clothes: no matter how good they are, they are useless unless they fit. This Arp would work great with my Mini's action. I love the ARP sound!

    Doresc sa cumpar un modul Korg Arp Odyssey si as avea nevoie de o lamurire...
    Imi poti spune, te rog, daca modulul Korg Arp Odyssey cel alb (Rev 1), este diferit din punct de vedere tehnic (la partea electronica) fata de modulul de culoare neagra (Rev 3), sau sunt total identice ca structura tehnica, si difera doar culoarea ?
    Nu stiu de ce, dar de cate ori am ascultat anumite demonstratii pe UA-cam, am simtit cumva ca modulul alb (Rev 1) a sunat mai placut, avand un sunet mai "dulce", pe cand modulul negru (Rev 3), parca suna mai dur... !

      Salut!
      Există trei versiuni ORIGINALE INITIALE în funcție de data lor de producție, iar acestea trei diferă ca aspect, precum și ca caracter tonal și funcționalitate.
      Modelul 2800 este cunoscut ca Rev. 1; acesta include modelul inițial cu panou alb produs din 1972 până în 1974 și modelul cu panou negru produs din 1974 până în aproximativ 1975.
      Modelele 2810 - 2813 sunt cunoscute ca Rev. 2; acestea constau din modelele cu panou negru care au fost produse din 1975 până în aproximativ 1976. S-au făcut modificări la filtru și s-au făcut modificări și la oscilatorul unor modele. Au fost adăugate, de asemenea, intrare audio externă și mufe de intrare CV/GATE, iar modelele ulterioare au schimbat pitch bender-ul în stil buton la un PPC (Proportional Pitch Control).
      Modelele 2820 - 2823 sunt cunoscute ca Rev. 3 și au fost produse din 1978 până în aproximativ 1981. Panoul s-a schimbat într-un panou negru cu serigrafie portocalie, iar designul s-a schimbat semnificativ de la modelele 2800 - 2813. Ieșirea audio a fost, de asemenea, schimbat de la mufele RCA/PHONE la XLR/PHONE.
      Asadar, din cate stiu la modele noi difera doar culoarea, avand toate filtrele modelelor initiale prin switch-ul pentru filtre 1-2-3.

Are there any difference between these except looks (and obv the keyboard)? I know the original ones had different filters, but in KARPs you get all three, or am I missunderstanding things?
    Really hope you have an answer for this as it's slightly confusing.
    Thanks in advance, and again; great videos!!

      Those pricey ARPs are a limited FS (full size) edition as the originals - the others are 86% of the original's size. All new ARP models are featuring all three original filters.
      Cheers!

    Great demo. Actually demo'd some great sounds rather than those who just demo the most basic and flat sounds.

    Amazing demo, I just have one question and is not related to the synth itself: What camera/lens did you record this with? Looks a lot like the pentax super takumar 35mm f2 that I own

      It was a Canon 600D with a EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. Currently I'm using a Panasonic DC-GX800, mirrorless.

      Thank you! In this video: none - I was jjst playing random notes. Now I'm using the Yarns from Mutable Instruments. Demora is connected to ARP using an eurorack splitter from mono to stereo - phones output of ARP.

    Q: does anyone know if the Korg Odyssey can be poly-chained? That is: two or more desktop Odyssey modules played with one keyboard for polyphony?
    Odyssey sounds good with single oscillator, which to me is always the benchmark. Moog and ARP always sound great with just a single oscillator dialed up.

    Is it the clouds, Demora that helps making that round, hollowy, fat sound especially on the bass sounds, or is it just the Odyssey that has that sound to it?

    yeah, this demo only cover maybe 2% of what this synth can do, if we consider noise and sound effects part of the capabilities. For me it only miss a true monophonic mode, and the LFO free run switch.
