What kind of journaling videos do you want to see next? Sending creative fire (as always) to you! 🔥
@Wild Writing Woman Hi! Yes, I actually have a whole playlist of flip throughs on my channel :) but I haven't done one in forever!
I'd like to see you, at some point (because I imagine this is likely both expensive and hassling due to your remote location) try out a few other fp-friendly papers. Cosmo Air Light, Midori MD, Rhodia, GLP the Writer/The Author notebooks, goodINKpressions etc Or even making some inserts for your beloved TN from papers like Clairefontaine Triomphe, Rhodia pads, and suchlike
That's a whole series in itelf, mind you, and I know you're not short of notebooks as it is. But it would be interesting to see those reviews from a journaling focus rather than a fountain-pen-friendliness focus.
Hmm...I think a whole video dedicated to creative fire would be fun. You mentioned awhile back that no one’s asked you about what that means...because I’m sure we all have a sense of what creative fire is (that burning in our souls just to create something...pour a bit of ourselves into something) but it would be cool to see what it means specifically to you and also different things that spark creative fire for you/what you do if you feel your creative fire is burning low. (And also if there’s slumps where you fear your creative fire has been extinguished/what you do to help build that fire back up!) I just think since creative fire is totally your thing and has been since the beginning of your channel, you need a video dedicated to it! :)
Another journal with me would be amazing! ❤️
Honestly, I just love it when you chat with us!
Maybe also how you’ve journaled differently in different phases of your life? Your style has changed so much over time, I think it’d be interesting to see all in one video. :)
Maybe even a video about incorporating spiritual practices + beliefs in journaling, especially when it comes to how they evolve over time?
Just a couple ideas you may like! :) Hope your cozy little family is well. ☺️
You’re one of my favorite journaling channels BECAUSE pretty much all you do is write! I’m the same, it can be hard to find people online like that a lot of the time
Thank you for this
Another UA-camr who mostly just writes is Carrie walker. She adds in some color here and there, but not like art journaling or scrapbooking,

NOO your straightforward approach to journaling is one part (of many) of why I love to watch your videos so much- because I am an artist, I often put loads of pressure on myself to make my journal pages beautiful and to have fancy headings and cover pages for each month, etc. and it has caused me to put off writing so many times when I really NEEDED to for my own mental clarity and wellbeing. Your simple approach to everyday writing has been refreshing to me and I'm sure many others. The meticulously assembled, eye-candy journal spreads are absolutely wonderful but not always realistic for most!
I can't thank you enough for this comment and I will be coming back here when I get in my own head. Sometimes I feel like I don't offer you all enough, but I'm glad to hear that the simplicity sings for itself
Tina, you're the best person to speak about journaling online, tbh. Last night I could not sleep so I was rewatching some of your oldest videos and remembering who I was back then and how I enjoyed and learned from your videos. I feel like I know you and it makes me happy to see that you continue to be as creative and authentic as before. Thank you for all these years, I'm so so happy you are posting again!! Don't stop being real.
Oh, thank you for this sweet, sweet comment
ua-cam.com/users/CarrieWalker
Oh my gosh yes to doing a series on the journals you start! That way it helps us find ones that speak to us without having to buy them all! (For instance I was tempted to get one like the Drive-To-Cut journal that you have....but now I’m leaning toward onion skin...the crinkling-rustling sound the pages make is divine) 💚
I'm SO glad that you like this idea! Honestly, this onion skin isn't for everyone. Let me play with it a bit before I whole-heartedly recommend it. The paper is divine, but the notebook itself? I'm not sure I'm sold just yet
@@OverallAdventures definitely keep us updated! The thinness of the paper does scare me a little bit! But if you do continue this with a series you can do what you said by talking about the new journal as well as your experience with the old one! (So in your next new journal video you can update us with all your thoughts on the onion skin journal!)
"Does it need tea? No. Can it hold it? I think so?" 😂 You made me laugh. I so relate to needing the journal and also don't do anything "special" in mine beside fill it with writing. I have a ritual of journaling every day and have been going strong for two years now.
HA! Thanks for this :) Glad that I made you smile!
This will never ever get boring to me!
Awww glad to hear it
I feel like it would be interesting for Tina to make a video on how to push one's self to journal when lacking motivation or even lacking some sort of spark or inspiration when it comes to writing. I'm not sure if she already did something similar to this, but it would still be nice to watch an update video of some sort. Anyway, the onion skin journal looks absolutely brilliant. It sure stands out from Tina's other journals over the years.
Ooooh nice!!!
Sorry to comment so much but I had to add that I LOVE the casual/friendliness of this video! So personal and warm 💚
I ALWAYS appreciate your comments
@@OverallAdventures 💚💚💚
You could write on the right page and collage on the left! You can even paste in another piece of paper into the page on the left and have a poem or anything else with it to be special and legible against everything else on the left! Can’t wait to see how this progresses !
Onion skin was originally used only for typewriter paper! It's because carbon copy paper used to be layered in between sheets of onion skin paper so you could easily type of multiple copies (i.e. newsletters, worksheets in school, etc.)There are dot grids/boards from midori's traveller notebooks line that lets you put that grid underneath and write with the grid lines! As far as I know, onion skin nowadays is really only used to draw on or in already preprinted notebooks like hobnichi (and even then, its not traditional onion skin). Many sketchbooks are drawn in that format though, where you only draw on one side of the notebook as drawing on the back may cause the previous drawing to transfer (esp w pastels). Another potential option is to put ephemera only on the back side/left side, and journal on the right side!
Gosh, THANK YOU for this! I love the idea of ephemera on the back because this morning I was feeling like - how can I put ephemera on my one-and-only writing side of the page?!
You have no idea how much your videos inspire me. every day. Thank you Tina xxx
Yay I like the crinkle sound
I just got one and I love it! Could you do more videos on mental health journaling?
I've been thinking about this topic quite a bit! Let me brainstorm and see what bubbles up
I love my onion skin journal and I write on both sides. I've learned that if I use a dark fountain pen Ink, I can read what I've written on both sides, especially in low light,.
Hi Tina! I really like your idea of continuing this "Starting a New Journal" series. It reminds me of your older video "How To Transition Into a New Journal." It's so cool to see your new journal rituals and old journal rituals. Each time a journaler starts a new notebook, it is the ending of one era and the start of another. A fresh start! If you journal quickly, the notebooks are short chapters in time that together make up a whole year. And if you journal slower, then one journal could be a whole year, which is really cool to look back on. Anyway, I love your inspiring videos, as always! Thank you for sharing your process with us. I hope you like your onion skin journal.
EXACTLY! I always think of new journals as new life chapters
I love your journaling videos. So real and learnings. You are the best
Love the idea for this video! Yes to a series!
Yes! I'm early! Hi Tina :) I love the new journal, can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! So excited for the serotinin you'll get from the pages
I have the same journal, and I watercolor and write mainly in mine...I write on one side and then use post it notes, paper scraps, cut tomoe river paper from old hobonichi planners that were unfinished, and use a tape runner or washi to adhere it to the "backsides" so that I can write on both sides. If you use thin paper and don't overdo it, the book doesn't get all that much thicker imo. Enjoy it!
Awesome! Out of curiosity - how does your onion skin hold water? Mine might have already started ripping eek!
@@OverallAdventures oh no! mine has held up extremely well, but maybe I am not saturating it...I also tend to watercolor drawings, so I do a lot of layers/stop (dry) and start type thing so maybe that is my saving grace 😂🤷🏼♀️
YES to a series of journals you start!
Would also love a video on tea staining on different journals - my next one is an A5 Leuchtturm1917 in a nice orangy colour. Do they hold yes well?
Also, LOVED this video! The sound of those pages was EVERYTHING,
Oooh love this idea! I don't think I've tea stained my leuchtturms before? Can't quite remember...but I love the idea of trying out a few notebooks to see how they hold the tea :)
A video from you was all I needed after today. Thank you.
Thank you for being here, Anieke
Love your videos so much Tina x
That onion skin paper looks so beautiful and the sound it makes 🥰😍😍
Love this video and look forward to it becoming a series. I got the Namani Cafe 7mm ruled TRP. It is in the B6 slim, which is just a little taller than the A6 and I loved the lined paper.
I love seeing your thoughts on this journal! Granted, I don’t think this particular one is for me (I get too precious about special journals and get intimidated) but I will live vicariously through you!
I feel you! This one definitely has potentially-too-precious-vibes
Hello beautiful soul, missed your Channel. You have helped me so much over the years xx
Ohhh thank you lovely
This was so interesting ❤️
I just got one and I love it. I going to order notebooks
love ! 🧅
That shadowing is so beautiful in a way, but yes, don't think I could do a 1-side notebook for very long. And agree with others, as a creative journaler myself, I find your simpler style very encouraging and inspiring. That said, you should still enjoy playing with ephemera in your journal too if and when you want. We don't have to be defined by one form of journaling; the blank page is all about freedom to do whatever we want!
Hi lovely! Gosh, thank you for your sweet comments lately
@@OverallAdventures you’re so welcome. Trying to be better about commenting on videos for my favorite youtubers, as I know how much I enjoy and appreciate comments. I’m honored that you’re watching some of my content! ☺️ you’re a journaling celebrity now that you have the likes of Howard Stern in your corner! Haha! so cool
I absolutely love cafe notes! I found they made more so I went and bought 7!!
YES! I need to do this too
Yay
You could use different lining so you can write on both sides
those pages are kinda like in the Bible! i love it
Definitely!
I'm really excited about this new journal/journey for you. I am really intrigued by this onion skin journal I love how crunchy the pages are! I'm gonna need to pick one of these up for myself. Not sure if you are familiar with Denik journals, but you can get a custom notebook on their website which I've been obsessed with! My sister is an artist and she has been designing me custom journal covers. just love the ability to combine my sisters art with mt journal. I've considered printing my own art but it's not really the style that I like. I'm still finding myself in the artistic world.
I've never heard of Denik journals before! Checking it out right now!! Thanks for sharing :)
@@OverallAdventures I like them they have a super smooth feeling to them! They are also environmentally aware and they help fund schools as well as support artists.
Also...I wonder if it would look too crazy but maybe you could do ephemera/washi/decorate pages on the left side and strictly write on the right side so that you’re using both sides of the paper but it wouldn’t be conflicting words (you would probably see the ephemera through on the writing side...but since it’s not words I wonder if it wouldn’t be too conflicting to read...just an idea so you can use up the full journal!)
LOVE THIS! M Y suggested the same thing too
Maybe you can use one side to write and sketch in pencil on the otherside just so it's not wasted paper
LOVE it! Could look cool with sketched boxes/shapes to write in on the other side
The Nanami Cafe Note does come in lined! It may also come in blank. It's available on Amazon now, which is nice.
Swoon! I have an onion skin I’ve been saving.. I get nervous to start it EVERY time I pull it out so I’m hoping YOU will help me actually do it! Already inspired!!
Can't wait to see what you think!!
Hi Tina, love your Videos and I am so happy that youre back 🤩👍. Please let me know which ink youre using? The grey looks so good!! Thank you, hugs from Germany ❤👍
Thank you lovely! It's Kiri-same grey ink :) www.gouletpens.com/products/pilot-iroshizuku-kiri-same-50ml-bottled-ink?variant=11884756992043
Ohhh I Love Tamoe River paper!! (Sure I spelled that wrong lol) I have little pocket notebooks with the original. I rubbed vineyard dirt all over some of my pages. I live in Napa. I think this new one will be delightful! And YES the sound of the pages turning is Yummy!!!
I just have to say, rubbing earth from a vineyard over the pages of your journal sounds like the most magical thing!!! 💚
@@kittyquinn004 😄 It is! Anywhere you live can be a special page in your journal. ♥️
@@justinewhite-hadley3138 Wow I didn’t think of that...what I beautiful idea!! 💚
I'm echoing KittyQuinn's comments as well - I adore the idea of the earth meeting the page
@@OverallAdventures Thank you Both! I love sharing ideas with fellow journaling gal pals. 🤗♥️
What you can do since you can only write on one side, is decorate the other side. At least you would be using the other side for something
I absolutely love all your videos and the vibe you give off :)
I used to write a lot in my journals but idk why, my hand doesnt feel like writing much now.
You know with typing taking over and lack of writing everyday, my fingers feel weird when I start to write.
I wanna come out of this block coz i absolutely love writing and typing can never be the same.
Can you suggest any tips to break free :(
Interesting! Is it physical hand pain or more connected to motivation? Yoga with Adrienne has this video on wrist and hand stretching that has literally saved my hands multiple times lol. But in terms of motivation, I need to make a whole video on this topic!
I'm a lefty too and I never realised that I also use more square journals
if you can only write on one side, you could always use the other side for some ephemera!
To help with the "one-side"dness, you could rotate it 90* and it ends up being a cross-hatch of text. Super cool! Makes it a bit harder to re-read, but it is much better than text over text. I do not own The Onion Skin Journal, but have used this technique on actual dried and deconstructed teabags as paper. Will be enjoying the unfolding of this new journal along side you ~ from afar. And, will most likely need to grab my own Onion Skin. Haha. Thanks in advance for that!
Woah, I will be trying this tomorrow morning! Thank you, thank you
@@OverallAdventures, so happy you liked that idea! I'll be excited to see if it works out for you.
So excited for you to get started in the Onion Skin and I love the idea of you doing a little intro on the new journal before you start!! How did you get your pages so crinkly and wavy if you didn't use watercolor in them or like straight up dip them in water? lol
Edit: wait you do straight up get the pages wet!!!! Searching your page for visual instructions on how to do this so I can do it to ALL OF MY NOTEBOOKS and see if I can still write on them lol
Ah I'm SO glad this was helpful! Yes, I basically make a cup of black tea, wait for it to cool and then using an old sponge or piece of fabric, I get the page wet! But if you have a thick paint brush, that will work wayyy better haha
@@OverallAdventures this is seriously cool!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
If you are conservation-minded (you suggested your environmental concerns about preferring to use BOTH sides of the paper, presumably to minimize waste) then perhaps you could think of onion skin paper with the following perspective. Onion skin is SO thin that effectively the producers have already split each traditional paper page in half so that each original side is now simply its own stand-alone page. Heck, it's so thin that perhaps one traditional page might be the resource equivalent of three sheets of onion skin. It really comes down to the particulars of fiber, water, and energy consumption in the manufacturing to yield a given quantity of usable surface area. Unfortunately I don't possess those insights, but am simply helping you appreciate that the answer isn't so straightforward as using one versus two sides of two completely different paper. As with most evaluations in life... it depends.
Love, love, love this Kaspers. Isn't it funny how so much of life is about perspective? It could be viewed as wasteful or wonderful...thank you for the wisdom!
I hate a6 for journaling. Can barely write three words before I have to start a new line. B6 is my sweet spot for journaling. I have the onion skin notebook and it is not journal friendly. I use it for pen tests only as you can’t write on the opposite side and is so porous that not many pens write great on onion skin paper. I much prefer to type with onion skin paper than to write on it.
what i do in my sketchbooks when you can't use both sides of the page is i'll fill up the other sides w pencil sketches or pencil poetry i'll rlly try to use it as a scrap place (i would also stick stuff in but that might not work w the sound of these pages?)
esp bc i love to use sharpie ;)
Love it! I need to experiment! I'm still just swooning over the crinkle sound lol
hey tina, i have a question. do you tend to listen to music or anything while you write? sending love ❤️
I wish that I could write with music, but music always distracts me (in a good way!) and I usually end up subconsciously writing the lyrics instead of my own thoughts lol
Can we get an update on your progress/ thoughts on the onion skin now?
how thin the pages are and the fact that you can only write on one side was the reason I didn't vote for this journal hah! still, I hope you enjoy it!
You could put ephemera on the backside of the page you write on
Jot and tittle Typewriters said you journal with a typewriter. Which do you use and how do you journal with a typewriter? I have 11 typewriters and I’m looking for ways to use them all.
I actually got the idea from adventuredenali on youtube - she bought a a5 size binder with hole punched a5 size blank paper from amazon and then types on each sheet of paper with the typewriter. Here's the link to my video with the info in the description box :) ua-cam.com/video/vSwTtcOrMHo/v-deo.html
@@OverallAdventures thank you!
Well you could write on one side and decorate the other side.
What grey ink?
That onion skin notebook is beautiful! But i also do understand it might feel like a waste that you can only write on one side. 😔 If I were to use one (and not wanting to finish it so fast), i would use it for things like go-to lists of food to make, bday gift ideas or pointers that i could come back to often while not depleting the pages so soon. But hey, it should suit your journaling needs so enjoy it!
Also, i wonder if they sell paper that's the same as newspaper quality. Gosh i love writing on margins of newspapers. Hahahah 😅
Thank you for the comment
@@OverallAdventures Really?! Thank you!
The pages sound like a bible
I remember writing letters to my uncle during Viet Nam war. They were on onion skin paper as were the envelopes. And onion skin paper LASTS A LONG TIME.☺🙏💙
I was taught it's the "tooth" of the paper.
I hope you'll enjoy using this notebook. Honestly it would drive me crazy
