Amber, you have no idea how emotional this song is. This was a song written for Eric’s young son, Conor, who died tragically in a terrible fall when he was only 5 years old. Not easy to listen to. It was also used in the film Rush. That’s some footage from it in the video. The director at first did not want to use the song. Eric sent him a tape of the song with just his voice and his guitar, and the guy thought it was just too raw and heartbreaking to use because he knew instantly who the song was about, but Eric asked him to please use it.
R.I.P. Conor Clapton. No mother or father should have such tragedy like losing their child at such a young age of 5. This song makes me realize just how hard it is tears every time.
My parents lost their only son at the age of five. Then they lost yheir daughter at 42. My dad died Two years after my sister . I think it was from a broken heart.
Amber's reaction to this just shows how amazing this song is. Without her knowing the reason for him writing this song she could still feel the pain of the song
I’m watching this a day after it was posted and knew others have already told the story, but just seeing Amber’s reaction here, I don’t know if I’d have the heart to tell her what it’s about
Written about his 4 year old son, who fell out of a 53rd floor window that was left open. What makes it even more heart breaking is that Eric Clapton was a few blocks away on his way to pick up his son to go to the zoo. It amazes me that he could even write this let alone perform it. The pain, but endurance in this man must be mental.
Whenever I would hear this song it would remind me of the tragedy of his son! I believe he wrote the song in order to get some closure! I don’t know if the song really helped him!
As a Mom, this song breaks my heart. How Eric was ever able to sing this without breaking down, I don't know. Written after the accidental death of his young son, from a high rise fall. 😥😥😭😭 A very beautiful song. But heartbreaking. 💔💔 I know when you both know the story, you'll be crushed. Oh this is one of my favorite songs by Eric Clapton. It is so bittersweet. When he lost his son so tragically the way he did every time I heard this song it would bring a tear to my eye
One of Eric's best songs, not because it's acoustic or anything else, but because of the story behind it and the death of young Conor. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Eric Clapton is one of the greatest song writers / musicians of all time. His music will live forever.
This song was written for Eric's little boy. He was 4 years old in a hotel with his mother. There were no safety fixtures on the window the little boy fell many stories and passed away. Heartbreaking 😥❤😥
For context: "Tears In Heaven' was borne out of an unimaginably tragic accident involving his four-year-old son Conor Clapton. Conor died having falling from the 53rd-floor window of a New York City apartment when Eric Clapton was elsewhere in the city." Such a heartbreaking story. Thanks for another great reaction to another classic.
Yes Connor fell out of a 53 story building - he fell 4 stories onto the adjoing building that tragically took his life. Not the entire 53 stories. I will never forget it
I don't think there is a parent alive today who hasn't cried when they heard this song. The tragedy of losing a child of any age is a pain I hope no one on this channel has to experience; what makes it even worse was the baby was only four when he passed away. This song gets me "in the feels" each and every time. Peace.
@@crobnson oh boy… my heartfelt condolences on losing your son. Cannot even imagine what you are going through. My prayers go out to you and your family.😢🙏🙏💕💕
I cry every time I hear it, knowing the origin of the song. As a parent, you can't help but to put yourself in his place and feel the heartbreak coming through in the lyrics and his guitar.
I lost my son almost 3 years ago on Christmas Night . First thing I did was listen to this song on loop and drove the 100 miles home . Crying my eyes out leaving the hospital. His son fell of his balcony in NYC fell 49 floors … this song means so much to all us parents that have lost our children . I am so glad he shared this with us sure has helped me thru some dark dark days .
I haven't even watched the video yet. But I guarantee Amber is going to cry. I remember the first time this song was played on the radio in New York City. This is where Eric's son tragically felt to his death at only 3 years old. All of us who were rock and roll fans were devastated. It is the first and only time in my entire life that I actually had to pull over and park my car because the song was making me cry so hard and I couldn't drive. Eric has since started a charitable organization it his son's name to try and find some good in this awful event. This is the most eloquent expression of heartbreak I have ever heard. So now I finished watching the video. Just as I predicted even without knowing the story behind the song Amber got the feeling and emotion that was put into it. Now, go watch it again listen to the lyrics and realize he's talking about his baby boy. You'll cry buckets this time.
When my son passed away we played this song during his services. It's emotional for me but to see Amber tear up confirms I made the right selection for a song so many years ago.
This song is so emotional. In the song he asks: would you know my name, would you hold my hand... He's talking to his son Conor who is in heaven, because when Conor was alive, Eric Clapton was mostly absent in his life. The tragic part in the tragedy is that Conor died just when Eric Clapton realized how important his son was for him
A beautiful song arising from devastating tragedy. This song came out a year after my father died and when I played it for my mother, we were both in tears. This is the first time I've heard it since she passed last year and it made me cry yet again.
Yes as several have commented here....Eric wrote this for his son, Connor. It breaks my heart for him, each time I hear it. How he manages to get through it...let alone write it, is amazing. How does one ever get over losing a child?! Conor was four years old when he fell many stories through a hotel window . The maintenance crew was working, and had left the window open.
At the time of the accident, some media speculated it was Clapton's apt, but that turned out to be incorrect. Conor & his mother, Lory del Santo, were staying in the apt. of her boyfriend, Silvio Sardi. Clapton was in a near-by hotel, getting ready to walk to the apt, to pick up Conor for lunch, when he got the call from Lory.

His performance of that song at the 1993 Grammies is just amazing. It is listed as one of the best live Grammy performances of all time. Many people in the audience were shedding tears during it.
Far and away, this is Eric Clapton's greatest -- and most personal -- song. He wrote it for his young son, who fell to his death from his high-rise apartment in NYC a few years earlier. Still makes me well up when I hear this one...

I think this just shows how compassionate you are, Amber. I don't think you knew the circumstances behind this song before you read all the comments about it being about Conor Clapton and you were still moved to tears. I'm sure if you went and listened to it again knowing about that sweet little boy the tears will be even stronger, as they are for most of us who cry every time we hear this.
Please don't ever apologize for feeling your emotions, especially for what this sad and powerful song brings up. I cry every time I watch someone react to it. Thank you for having the courage to react to it.
This sad song hits home for me. I have a brother and 4 friends who all have lost a child before the age of 20. I can’t imagine what Eric is thinking while he sings this. RIP Conor Clapton😢
Eric Clapton had a nightmare no one should have to go through.. Eric is so brave, so wonderful to make this song.... Especially after you know the story.
As so many have pointed out, once you know what this song is about, it kills you, especially if you're a parent. Having my son taken, I know this too well. That's why I love your reactions so much. You can feel your hearts with every one. Thank you for sharing with us.
I am constantly amazed at how he gets through the song live on stage, having lost my wife in the last 12 months I know that there us no way I could do it and when I hear it I just get torn up inside
Yes, like many others already mentioned, a song written about his little son that fell out of a hotel window and passed away. A beautiful, but, sad song. You both would have been crying if you knew the reason for the song before you heard it. Also, this song won Song of the Year and when he went to accept the award, in his speech he said that he was really expecting "Save the Best For Last" by Vanessa Williams to win the award. True.
You have to think how hard it would be to write let alone sing a song about a loss of a family member but your child is the hardest of times. I lost my son ( when he was 17yrs old) 11 years ago in a 4 wheeler accident and it wipes out you heart/soul. So to hear this song brings back such sweet memories for me of him which I hope it does for others.
I just burst into tears listening to this and reading your comment. I’m so terribly sorry for your loss. I have three beautiful children and I cannot imagine the pain of losing one of them. May god keep giving you strength. ❤
This song reminds me of my nephew, who we lost very. Very young. My heart will go out to Eric Clapton and his family for the loss of their son. No one should go through that pain.
You both are the perfect combination as a music reaction video team. You guys are by far my favorite reaction channel. Amber every time you connect emotionally with songs it strikes my heart. This song hits me hard too
I’m actually very glad Amber (and Jay, but especially Amber) did not know the history behind this song. This reaction video was most likely filmed after the birth of their own son, and I don’t want to imagine the sorrow and anguish the knowledge would have caused them. When Amber cries, I cry 😭 She was tearing up just thinking it was a sweet, hopeful song. I can’t imagine her reaction knowing it was about the death of a young child. 💔
It’s not just a beautiful Clapton song, it’s one of the most beautifully heartfelt, emotional songs ever. It’s among those that bring a tear every time I hear it….❤❤
I'm kind of glad that they didn't know what inspired this song because I felt like that would have torn them up, especially Amber. This song never fails to bring me to tears, especially as a parent.
This song was off the soundtrack to the crime drama cop movie “RUSH” a true story in the 1970’s. A powerful story. The acting incredible. The directing priceless. The characters 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐performances. I love “RUSH” ! It’s very underrated.
Honestly one of the best movies EVER !! I saw it for the first time at the movie theater and was absolutely bawling my eyes out when it was over. I bought the VHS and then the DVD. Excellent movie and this song is perfect for it !
It’s fascinating how music can be so good simply on its own. But, when you know the backstory leading to the creation of a song, something magical happens transcending the song to another level. This is one of those songs. How can you not shed a tear knowing what led to the incredible lyrics and the beautiful medley.
I love this song. So sad that he lost his baby. I know what’s that’s like. The death of a child or grandchild is something you never get over…,.😢❤I know I’ll see my baby again and hold their hand. 💙🕊
I still get teary eyed when I hear this. When I saw him perform it live I bawled like a baby. So heartbreaking for a parent to experience this and such a beautiful song.
If you can stand listening to this song again after learning why this song was written then try his unplugged version from his MTV Unplugged concert which is actually full of great songs. Try Change The World by Clapton accompanied by Baby Face. Amazing song too.
Such an amazing song . I wish there were a way you could have known the story behind this one. Amber was feeling his heartache through the song even without knowing why he wrote this. Can't hear it without a few years every time knowing his loss 😞.
I always found this song emotional but when my son was stillborn it took on even more resonance for me and I break down hearing it now. It's a beautiful song.
My 7 year old son passed away shortly after Tears in Heaven came out. It's painful to listen to but it is also so raw and beautiful. When this song was first released, I told my friend that I cannot imagine that kind of pain. Not long after that, I knew it too. 😢
I'm not a fan of Eric Clapton the person, and am a casual fan, at best, of his music, but this song causes me to tear up everytime. I cannot imagine, don't want to imagine, going through what he went through, and it's a beautiful song
This song is a very sad one, he lost his 4 year old son, his son fell out of a Window of a hotel & fell to his death. This song was dedicated to his son. 😢❤️ I also love when Eric does Blues too.🎸
OMG yes I’ve been waiting so long for you to listen to this. One of the saddest and most beautiful songs ever written. When you know its him singing about seeing his child that he lost it hits different too. One of my top 5 favorite songs of all time.
The MTV Unplugged version of this song is even better than the studio version, IMHO. Especially knowing the story behind this song. I still cry every time I hear this song. So beautiful and heartbreaking. I recommend y'all listen to the live Unplugged version. ✨🙏🏽✨
You can here the pure emotion in his voice as he sings. Amber’s reaction is exactly what the song is supposed to be, a farewell to a very close loved one.

Thank you for sharing with us.
you must watch them every single second..💕
they count on us
TILL THEY CAN CARE
FOR THEMSELVES
It was emotional dealing with a heart breaking subject that was probably his most honest performance ever.
This song is about Eric's 4yr old son who unfortunately fell to his death from a 53rd floor window. RIP Conor
I cry every time I hear this song. From such a tragedy comes such an emotional and tender song.
True.
As good as the studio version is, knowing why this song was written, seeing him perform it on MTV unplugged is unbelievable and shouldn’t be missed.
This song is so heart wrenching! The reason behind this song, just tears your heart out
To get even more impact and meaning from this song, be aware he wrote it after his 4 year old son died.
Clapton makes writing, playing, singing from the heart seem so easy.
@@johnholmes4689, Thank you and may God bless you and your family.
This song hits me hard too
Even after all these years this song still makes me cry.
This song always makes me cry. To my angel boy in Heaven, miss you Bryan. Love mama
sorry for your loss
I'm so sorry. I know there's nothing I can say. I'm a father myself.
I hope you've found your peace.
😢
So sorry
💛🤗💛
I don't know how you can even get through that song without breaking down. But music is how musicians deal with grief.
I'm not a fan of Eric Clapton the person, and am a casual fan, at best, of his music, but this song causes me to tear up everytime. I cannot imagine, don't want to imagine, going through what he went through, and it's a beautiful song
This song was played at my grandmother's funeral. I can't listen to it anymore without being brought to tears.
I also really love the version of Layla on Unplugged. Such a fantastic album.
You can here the pure emotion in his voice as he sings. Amber’s reaction is exactly what the song is supposed to be, a farewell to a very close loved one.
Heartbreaking song. I can't imagine writing a song because of the death of my son.
He wrote it to help him heal from the tragedy. amazing
He said it was cathartic for him.😢
I read that he said it was healing. But the hurt was so raw he had to get help with writing the song.
This song rips the heart. Especially special as came out shortly after my mum passed, so this song is forever attached to her.
It's a masterpiece
