The presentation includes a brief overview of the field of Criminology; difficulties in obtaining an accurate gauge regarding the extent of crime in the U.S. (the “dark figure of crime”); Maine’s ranking among the states regarding the extent of crime; contemporary U.S crime control accomplishments; and identification of top five control policies and practices.
Ron is Professor Emeritus, Criminology and Criminal Justice with American University, and Forensic Criminal Psychosocial/Psychosexual Evaluator with Acadia Forensic Assessment Services, LLC. Ron has visited Southwest Harbor seasonally since 2004, and in 2016, he and his wife became year-round Southwest Harbor residents. Ron’s former work includes as a Forensic Social Worker for the Maryland Hospital for Criminally Insane, a Case Manager, U.S. Bureau of Prisons, a Senior United States Probation Officer, U.S. District Court, D.C., and as Forensic Evaluator, Boisjoly v. Morton Thikol Company, Challenger Disaster.
