    Does Cadillac Mt and Mt Mansell have similar granite? If yes, why? Thanks 🙏🏼

    • @swhpubliclibrary
      @swhpubliclibrary Рік тому

      From Duane & Ruth! Both Mts are composed of Cadillac Granite. The whole central part of the island came from the same granite magma chamber. 420 million years ago this area was a large volcano due to the collision of the Avilon terraine with the edge of the Gander terraine. A huge magma chamber the size of the island today fed this volcano. In the 420 million years since this occurred erosion has removed 2 miles of rock and exposed this chamber. Streams have cut valleys; glaciers have scoured and deepened the valleys to give us the topography we see today. Refer to our book. Hope this helps. minerva.maine.edu/search~S55?/tgeology+of+mdi/tgeology+of+mdi/-3%2C0%2C0%2CB/frameset&FF=tgeology+of+mount+desert+island+and+acadia+national+park&1%2C1%2C/indexsort=- Thanks for your question, Library Staff

    Here is the version I learned from my grandmother who was born in the 1890s and emigrated to the US when she was 10: LADLES AND JELLYSPOONS I come before you to stand behind you. And tell you something I know nothing about Next Thursday Which is Good Friday There will be a ladies meeting For men only The meeting is free Pay at the door Take a seat And sit on the floor. It makes no difference where you sit The kid in the galley is certain to spit I thank you for your unkind attention

    I'm Ben Darlings 6th great grandson. If u look at the photos the darker skinned people look moorish. I'm starting to think Ben was moorish. Some have suggested that Malaga's name may derive from the wreck of Captain Darling's brig which was loaded with timber from Malaga, Spain.Alcazaba of Malaga is the most well preserved example of a Moorish citadel in Spain. It is next to another historical site: the Roman Theater.

    Any fisherman would have had “scruffy” days. Perspective of history tellers is so important. Why is so much attention placed on the McKinneys being white and therefore the leader of the community? Should that have been the first thing you talked about when the history of the island is tied to the atrocity of this perspective leading to wrongful eviction of a whole community for their race? Also, the Darling family bought the island, so all the justification for their eviction is pretty disgusting. You don’t even mention that Darling bought it, you make it look like the state was in its right to take the island when it really wasn’t. She also seems to justify the Eugenics approach as if the state was right. You never say that they were NOT feeble minded and that this was a lie to remove them. You treat theDarling community that built it up as a nuisance and this history telling takes a very racist perspective, not representing the atrocity of what happened there, and which is an evil that contributes to the United States’ current reality. You are completely taking the side of the state and it’s horrific that she is repeating this version of history. It’s shameful she is the voice for this history without checking her perspective. “Within a year they [the state] made some good money “? Are you serious? She barely addresses the fate of the Marks’, instead saying “They were diagnosed according to Eugenics terms” - as if this resolution was humane. I’m sorry, this coverage is disgusting and people like this are telling half truths in their history telling. Of course Lottie would not admit to their African ancestry when even 100 years later atrocities committed against them for who they are are not truly even acknowledged.

    Yesterday, I told my husband about this poem ( he’d left a tissue in his pants that he tossed in the wash. My contention was that tissue is much worse than a hole in a pocket)I learns this poem from a book called “favorite Poems to Read Aloud” from Read Aloud Wonder Books that I bought new for $.039 around 1960. For some reason , it was important for me to notate that the poem was 27 lines long!
