  • In preparation for my 850 mile ADV ride next week, I am installing new tires on my CRF250L. I’m replacing the stock IRC Trails GP-22’s for the Tusk D-Sport adventure tires. We’ll soon see how well they work in their intended adventure setting!

    THX CS, good vid on D Sport and mounting. Seriously considering this as rear tire for beta 500. Keep up he good work.

      I think it would be a good fit. I’ve put a few thousand miles on this tire so far and it’s got plenty of life left. The rubber is soft enough to grip well but hard enough to last for many miles on pavement and loose roads. The only times it’s been lacking for grip was in deep mud and a steep trail with loose pebbles (which most tires struggle with anyway). The only thing that I don’t like about the tire is that it’s heavier than most. Considering the upsides, I think it’s a fair trade off.
      Obviously my experience is from a 24 HP CRF, not a Beta 500. How does it handle big power? I have don’t know, but I’d love to find out.

    Y know, low pressure trials type tire would likely be better on those roads you show in the video.

    What helmet are you using?

      @Keith Hester - Congrats on your new bike, you're gonna love it! The D-sports have been awesome so far. I have no regrets in getting them.
      My helmet is the Bell MX-9. It is a decent helmet and gets the job done for I think $250. It is kinda heavy and very noisy. I personally wouldn't go any cheaper on a helmet and would probably pick up either the Arai or Shoei ADV helmet next time.

    Dawn dish soap makes a great rim lube.

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  Рік тому

      Definitely true, soap works great. Although, I’ve heard from some people that it can corrode the rims over time. Whether it’s true or not, I’d rather play it safe.

    What is the name of that tool that attaches to the tube stem and can pull it through the wheel? That would be a huge help! Hopefully you will see this. Thanks 👍

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t recall the exact name. I’ve heard it called a valve stem puller, valve stem fisher, valve stem fishing tool, etc. If you buy one, you may need to drill the hole in the rim for the valve stem slightly larger. Depending on which tool you get and which time you have, the tool might too big to fit. (See the Jenny Morgan tire change on the blancolirio channel). It’s not big deal to drill the hole slightly bigger.

    Try warm soapy dish water for a lubricant (especially for tire onto rim).

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  Рік тому

      That is a good method. But I’ve heard/seen from some people where the soap can lead to corrosion of the rim over time. I’m not entirely convinced of the validity of that but I always try to play it safe. These tires are very stiff and difficult to mount in general so I think it would have been a fight either way. I’ll actually be replacing the front tires within the next few week.

    That heavy rear tire will sap a lot of power and snap to your bike.

  • @Hutchie2112
    @Hutchie2112 3 роки тому +1

    That is a stunning price for those tyres (tires) , and they look like they have a much more aggressive tread pattern for offroad.
    I just fitted Bridgestone AX41 Adventurecross tyres to mine, they are fantastic, but they cost nearly 3 times what you paid. I could cry :)
    Tusk don't do tires to the uk, which is a shame, a lot of their kit seems good quality at a budget price.
    I'm surprised at your 25/30 tyre (tire) pressures. I thought the manual said 22 front 22 rear?

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  3 роки тому +1

      @Hutchie2112 - The book and swing arm both say 22 like you said. But I think that is assuming the use of stock tires and I think it is also is there to be a safe balance between pavement and gravel/dirt. The Tusk tires are rated for a max of 36 psi on the sidewall so I’m well within their rating. The higher psi helps their longevity.
      I just looked up the AX41’s. They look like a really good tire and I don’t doubt the extra money does give you a better quality tire. But the price of the Tusk is hard to compete with. I’ll be doing an update video on them soon and I’d be interested to see a review of your AX41’s on your channel if you’ve got the time!

      @@Casey_Schmidt I#ll see if I can do a wee review at some point, although I am mostly riding the T7 nowadays, and just fitted Anlas Capra X tyres (tires) to it, which are really super knobbly and fun.

    The tusk rear is super heavy! When using a heavy duty tube with them, you can feel the bike is actually slower.

    • @sarahdell4042
      @sarahdell4042 2 роки тому

      @@Casey_Schmidt Yes! I also had the issue, of the rear not hooking up over bumps. It took a ton of weight to balance the rear tusk out as well. Have you found a better tire solution?

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  2 роки тому +1

      @@sarahdell4042 I just except that as a downside to using this tire. It has low cost, good durability, and overall good grip. The downside of that is it is heavy and doesn’t do well over bumps. You win some you lose some. Taking that into account, I haven’t really looked for a solution. I’ve simply ridden it as-is and worked around the shortcomings the best I can.

    How about mileage? Do you know the mileage on both the tires?

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  2 роки тому +1

      @Jim Conrad Tee - Are you asking about fuel efficiency “mileage“ or are you asking about how many miles were on the tires? As far as fuel efficiency, I’ve gotten about the same mpg on both sets of tires. The IRC tires had just under 1000 miles on them when I took them off. The D sport tires currently have about 2000 miles on them and they’re still holding up very well.

      @jimconradtee1684 2 роки тому

      @@Casey_Schmidt pardon for the confusion😅, I was referring to the tires longevity as I would like to exhaust the stock IRC Trails on my crf300l before changing to Pirelli MT90. Do you have any idea on such?

      @Casey_Schmidt  2 роки тому +1

      @@jimconradtee1684 - I haven’t run my IRC‘s since I took them off in this video. As I said I had just under 1000 miles on them. Based on how they were wearing down for me and reports I’ve heard from other people, they should last around 3000 miles tops. So depending on your riding style, they’ll be useful until 2000 to 3000.

    you change for nothing, the old tyres are still good to go,, and they are not crap for a 50/50 dual tyre .. your new one are more oriented off road / trail , wood, mud, bcs of the space between the knob,,, it will not work so well on the road,, your knob will run out rly fast or they are hard and its slipy on wet street .. the original one was a good compromise,,
    and when i see where you drive.. a tyre like Maxxis M6006 or BRIDGESTONE TRAIL WING TW302 will suits you better.. they are more 50/50 .. tyre is always compromise .. but i prefer slip off road than on the road,, bcs its harder, you have car around,, etc.. and you go faster
    too much ppl think they do more off road than on road,, but is not true,,
    trail road, stone road,, hard heart is not rly offroad,, some of my friend drive on this with their R1 and road tyre, lol,, dont confound county road , farmer passage and off road,,
