- Hey everyone and welcome to another instalment of Beyond The Mask. Today, I’m going to be discussing the future of Scream, and Sidney Prescott’s role… or rather, the importance of Sidney and why it’s important that she be included in the story going forward.

This character means so much to me. I was in abusive relationship for so long and seeing all what she went through gave me the courage to step up and fight back. She is an inspiration.

This character is one strong example for people with PTSD, she is the driven soul of the movies alongside Dewey and Gale

Sidney is absolutely amazing. She's always important to it...yes she deserves a happy ending but she's the original!! QUEEN NEVE/SIDNEY. The new scream is brutal...I do kinda miss the old scream...comedy & ghostface being clumsy and the questioning on horror movies

She’s not just important to the franchise, she IS the franchise. If you break it all down over the decades, every film, each character, Sidney is the thing you care about most. Even in part 5 where she took a backseat role, the most exciting parts were the ones with her in them. If Scream 7 is the final film, she needs to be largely present

This was actually a very beautiful video Neve Campbell should finish the franchise she's my favorite character in the entire story she's been very important when I'm going through a tough moment I watch one of the scream movies she's going through a similar trauma and then it would calm me down she's my lifetime final girl ever since I was 4 years old I thought of her as my friend she's also my idle

Back in the 90s I was just a child and growing up as a gay guy in a small town in Colombia can be really hard or even traumatizing. I've followed Sydney my entire life and I feel I've grown together with her, watching her coming back to that cursed smalltown Woodboro being a strong, mature woman somehow inspired me to go back to my own smalltown and face my demons there now that I'm 30

Fab video, highlighting the importance of Sidney in the story and how Scream flipped the script of horror by having the protagonist as the focus and the antagonist differ per movie.
Personally, I feel that if 7 is going to be the last movie then it should come back on to Sidney as, at least an equal main focus, if not the main focus. Go back to the beginning, new truths come to light, etc. Have a survivor versus ghostface ending. Sidney, Gale and those from the core 4 (at least one should bite it before the finale) face off in a final battle. Old and new standing together, back to back, to put the past to rest.
ALL the individual elements that made up the original Scream are what allowed it to have impact & longevity, one of those elements being Sidney. You can’t have Scream without Ghostface. You can’t have Scream without the iconic phone calls. You can’t have Scream without Sidney. You need all of those elements to make Scream work. If Sidney’s story is over then there shouldn’t be more Scream movies.

I'm actually glad they've given sydney's character a break in the 6th movie. After watching Gale Weathers fighting Ghostface for the sixth time, I would feel exhausted of watching her fight and survive in 7 again and yet I see no point on killing her either. Gale needs a rest just like Sydney did.

Even if Sidney (Neve Campbell) isn't there, she is very much there. Leading ladies have guided us all through story telling - Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) on All My Children, Vicki Lord (Erika Slezak) on One Life to Live, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) on Halloween, Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly) on Child's Play/Chucky, Ellen Ripley (Sigorney Weaver) on Aliens. The list can go on forever. These are leading women.... even if they are not part of the series, they are very much part of the series. There will never be a time when someone isn't talking about them, even if it is just in the abstract. Does Sidney have to still remain a part of Scream? Realistically, yes. Sidney is very vital to everything, but if she is absent, is she really absent? No, she is not. She is gone, but she is not. She is very much there when you can't see her.
Is it weird that I don’t like horror movies at all but I’m obsessed with Scream?
Sydney does need to come back one more time along with Terra Ceia, and all the other characters who survived scream six maybe other characters, too, because if Stu is alive and is going to come back and scream seven or even eight these characters gotta be in the movie
first time with scream for me it was 2020 this was when i watched scream 1-4 for the first time but when i watch videos like this it feels as if I've been watching them ever since 1996

I was trying to re watch Scream 6 recently and I just couldn’t do it, I thought to myself why am I re watching Scream 6 when I could be re watching the original. So I turned Scream 6 off and put the original on.
My issue with the Radio Silence Scream movies is they are poorly written and the casting isn’t good. Sam, Tara, Mindy and Chad are just not as likeable or as interesting as the characters in the original.

Also Scream 6 is not re watchable, neither was Scream 5.
I’m saying that these Radio Silence Scream movies are nowhere near as good as the original trilogy. The new characters are nowhere near likeable or as interesting as older characters. The stories are nowhere near as engaging.
Scream 2 was by far the most suspenseful Scream movie. The original trilogy blows away any Radio Silence Scream movie with its suspense.
I want engaging and suspenseful stories with interesting characters, which is what the original Scream was all about.

Scary Movie was what Scream was originally going to be called until they changed it to Scream.
Scary Movie then became a Horror spoof franchise.
There are a ton of Scream fans on this channel and on UA-cam, which is why I’m commenting on this channel, because the original Scream is my all time favourite movie.
My point is that these Radio Silence Scream movies are just nowhere near as good as the original trilogy.
The writing isn’t as good, the directing isn’t as good, the casting isn’t as good, the acting isn’t as good, the stories are nowhere near as good, and the suspense is nowhere near as suspenseful.

You are clearly not a Scream fan, so WHY ARE YOU HERE?.
The original Scream’s first scene with Drew Barrymore is one of the greatest scenes in Horror movie history. That scenes suspense alone is better than Scream 5 and 6.
And no it’s not because I have a bias, when I watch Scream and Scream 2 and watch Scream 5 and Scream 6 there’s a ton of differences.
Now let me point out those differences
* The pacing (movies today go by very fast and don’t slow things down to make us breath, we live in an era of people having low attention spans. The early Scream movies slows things down and made room for people to breath before the big scenes.)
* The Main characters (Sidney as a character is very likeable, she’s innocent, but she’s strong at heart, which makes the audience want to root for her, what also helps is Neve’s acting is great in her role.)
(Now let’s look at Tara and Sam. Sam struggles with her mental health issues, okay that could be relatable if it wasn’t so convoluted, she has schizophrenia but it’s not fully explained to the audience, so it’s disjointed from the rest of the movie. What also doesn’t help is Melissa isn’t that good of an actress to express certain emotions to make you root for her character, instead you just don’t care.)
(Tara is hard to root for, she’s not that innocent of a character, for example in Scream 6 she excepts having sex with a sleazy guy at a party, you could say Sidney also slept with Billy, but Billy was trying to pretend to be someone he wasn’t to trick Sidney. Where as Tara says fuck it to a drunk sleazy guy at a party, because that’s a character you want to root for. And plus Tara is very annoyingly self righteous, what also doesn’t help is Jenna is an overrated actress who is not that good.)
(But even Stu in the original Scream is likeable, you’re not supposed to like him but because he’s played by Matthew Lillard who’s just charismatically funny, he becomes likeable to the audience.)
(Randy is a geeky stereotype yes, but the character feels sincere with his movie knowledge that he feels his knowledge will actually save people, where as Mindy is fucking annoying as shit as she just wants to be the smartest in the room.)

I love your channel. So thorough and in depth, and great fun. Having seen all of the Screams when they originally were released and then doing a recent rewatch binge, it’s so easy to see how far superior the first two were. The first being the absolute best that set the bar. 5 was also very good. 3 was just silly and with 4 there was no buy into with the characters. I just didn’t care about the new ones. Billy and Stu are by far the most fascinating ghost faces without a doubt.

There’s more you can do with her character. More could be explored with her relationship with Mark Kincaid and her kids. Leslie macher could want to go after Sidney because of what she did to Stu and that’s how she could be important to the story of Scream 7. Just that the new writers haven’t established these things for some reason?

Sidney is not that important anymore to most of the general audience. The box office results are proof of that. The last Scream movie to have Sidney as the main character bombed at the box office. The last two Scream movies to have little to no Sidney in them were box office hits. If Sidney is so important then how can we have results like that? Truth is Sidney is not important anymore. The general audience fans have Sam now and they love her. Sam is younger, fresher, stronger and with a compelling story arc. The only fans that don’t love Sam are the Sidney fans who hate to see their favorite get replaced as the new main character. And then there is the actress who portrays Sidney. Neve Campbell who has stated she will not return if Sidney was going to die. Huh? She ruined any suspense Sidney might have in a new Scream movie. Fans will know ahead of time the outcome of the character. Who wants to pay money to watch a horror suspense movie when the outcome is already known and the suspense is gone? Sidney had her time but it’s time to move on. She gets her happy ending. How many final girls get to say that? Laurie Strode died. Nancy Thompson died. Jamie Lloyd died. They all die except Sidney. That’s her legacy and a good one.

IMO, she doesn't need to return lol. Let her live her happy ending and she's been through enough. Sure, be cool to see her return but for what role? It'd have to be a very small role with the huge cast involved. Important to the current story going on? No. Sam doesn't need Sidney, Sam's anchor is Tara and Scream 6 shown that. During that scene with Sam staring into her father's glass case with the costume, Tara was the one to pull her back from that darkness and that ending scene with Sam staring at her father's Ghostface mask who pulled her back from those dark thoughts? Tara. Tara needs Sam and Sam needs Tara. Neither needs Sidney and they do have Gale as that mother figure role for them if they need it. I know I'll get hate for my 2 cents, but Scream really doesn't need the Sidney character anymore and Sidney never 'made' Scream. Scream the TV Series didn't need Sidney and it was it's own story just like how Scream 6 was. Sidney was a great character, but she deserves her happy ending for once and let other characters go through that same kind of trauma. The beauty with Scream, it isn't just one person's story. You can really explore this Universe and everything that 1996 created.

I'll always love Sidney. She's my favorite horror movie final girl. But Sidney's story arc should have ended way back Scream 3 imo. I've been wanting a new hero to root for for a long time; and personally, I'd say that Sam Carpenter along with the rest of the new characters (Tara, Chad, Mindy, and Kirby) filled in quite nicely as new additions to take over.
I'd argue Scream the TV series did need Sid or at least a connection to her/the films, hence why people didn't tune in. If the new trilogy was it's own thing instead of steming from OG characters and films then I'd understand your 'doesn't need Neve, it's its own story' mentality but they have built all this off the back of Sid and her story. With everything we know about Sid I just don't buy that she would sit any more of this out, she's still connected to this and it would be criminal to not include her. The OG video is spot on with that IMO. There's so many ways she can be brought back into the fold and still get a happy ending. I think bringing her back for 5 robbed her of her past endings. If Sam is going killer in the next movie then Sid is the perfect person to help Tara stop her (whatever shape that takes).

Nobody cares about the new fans. This franchise started with the originals not 5 and 6. There’s a reason the old ones are considered cult classics compared to the melodramatics of the new ones.
