I normally don‘t write comments on UA-cam, but I just have to tell you how much I‘ve been enjoying this series! These videos are the ones I‘m looking forward to watching the most at the moment :) And they really make me want to get my paint brushes out too lol
It has been tough some days but it is always worth it when you see the finished product that you have achieved. Will be pleased once its finished though 🤣
You’ve both been so busy! Love watching the transformation. Your suggestions and tips have been so helpful! We complete on our first property tomorrow and we can’t wait to get stuck in decorating!
Love the Renovation updates. You and Simon are working so hard on this and the results are amazing. Hope you are treating yourself to some pampering- massages etc.
Looking fab guys, I'm taking note of some of the paint colours for when the time comes, the bannister just transforms the staircase and is a lovely contrast against the taupey walls.x
I prefer white doors, but I’m sure whatever you go for will look great. I just think it will go best with the trims (?) and give it all a more seemless look now that you’ve introduced more colour on the walls. 😊 it’s all looking great, looking forward to the end result!
It Looks beautiful. A good advice from me:on areas you will be touching a lot like the Ballustrade, always put a couple of clear coats over. It really helps to maintain the main colour
Loving the decorating, the white doors look good, if at some point you want black doors it's easier to go darker than start black then go to white if you didn't like them xxx
You two are amazing with your DIY skills!! I personally wouldn't choose a cane light shade for the living or lounge area. I think it cheapens the look of the room and looks a bit hippy. I prefer your existing light to the cane ones. I also would leave the doors white, but I do like the black top rail on the staircase. Anyway that's just my opinion. You guys are doing a great job! 👍
Looking lovely . I've got same colour ways in my hall , though not exact same names . I used Egyptian cotton on walls and just black on staircase and doors ! They look boss ! My hallway is darkness, but the dark Doors have not darkened the space at all . It actually makes it look larger and much more defined ! Me and my tips again .. just to note that paint , especially top coat eggshell , takes a few weeks to cure . So try not to handle it too much . Don't hang things on it , or if windowsills , benches etc. Don't put anything on them For a. Few weeks , the paint will harden, then you are good to go 👌😊
Love the black railing. You guys are troopers doing all that painting yourselves. That’s a workout 💪🏾 but I enjoy painting myself. It can be therapeutic
Looks very nice, you two are doing a great job it's really hard work. I would also keep the doors white not only because of the beautiful handles but because of the light situation. I think this area would become too dark then. It looks very elegant and light now! Love it! 😍
Emma you make everything look chic - that boiler suit you've been sporting... You had a insta pic with a matching T Shirt that made me think, did Sezane come out with a new jumpsuit? Now I see it's 20 GBP on Amazon! Fooled me! The coving in the stairs looks dreamy! The black railing looks so chic! It's fun to see the videos after the insta pix. It's like being an insider. Also, Simon gets a husband of the year award for his hard work - what a gem!
Great job guys, looking fabulous! I'd recommend putting a couple of coats of clear varnish over the top of the handrail. It will make it much more hard wearing. You can get matt varnish if you don't want it to look shiny. 👍💕😍
It all looks sooooo good! Loving all the warm neutrals with the black and white! It’s just my personal preference, but I would leave the doors white; that way, the blacks on the picture frames and bannister would pop even more. Absolutely brilliant job, you! Can’t wait for the rest, including the basement (hint, hint) 😊 😍😍😍😍😍😍
U two have been working sooooo hard .... looks sooo good ..... you’re going to need a vacay when this is all done ..... a trip to watch the Jays play perhaps, Simon???
I'd go for white doors and a black railing (but probably just the handrailing part, not the whole banister). but tbh, the natural light wood is beautiful too for the doors. I grew up with all natural wooden doors and it's definately a "look" you have to like, but it especially for a top floor/bedrooms I think it really adds to a calm atmosphere.
Well done guys love the colour of your hallway and lounge. I like you kept the doors white its a good contrast to your lovely black door handles. Cannot wait for next weeks vlog X.
Hi friends! Haha you guys are my friends now okay, these vlogs are awesome because they feel real time plus I feel like you both really know your shit. The quality of the work and attention to detail is amazing! 💛
I love the color of the banister. Might I suggest when you update the restroom an interior transom or clerestory window above the doors. This would improve lightening in the dark hallway regardless of if the door is kept open/closed. Depending on the view from the top of the stairs into the restroom you may not want a clear window but other options do exist.
A huge thumbs up for all the completed works. I'd keep the doors white, just to have a more airy light feeling ( plus we have a very dry climate here with lots of dust, which is ten times more visible on black finishes, you obviously don't have that problem) but that's just a personal preference. One question: how do you manage the smell of the paint, even the paint for interior we buy here has quite a strong smell and although it dries in a couple of hours, I still have to do breaks in between or my head gets all heavy and dizzy .
We do leave windows open to air the house out. And if it is dry the back door is open for the pups to run in and out so it doesn't smell too bad of paint 👍
The stair railings are stunning. The white doors really lighten the area. Since you leave the doors open you could leave that piece of furniture that you put in the hallway for your shoes the same color as your wardrobe. It just looks like a continuation out from your bedroom since both are in such close proximity. Also, the stair railings are so gorgeous and if you painted that piece of furniture black it might take away from the stairway and clash with the wardrobe?
Thanks for sharing your progress, it’s great to see how it’s coming along. Being honest, I wouldn’t recommend painting the doors black as it will show any fingerprints etc, a lot worse than white will. You do you of course guys, but knowing you to be such a clean freak Emma, I feel like it will properly twist your mellow!! And that would be such a shame given the sheer graft you have put in.
Fun seeing your changes... lots of hard work, pays off. I am a fan of white doors and frames, throughout the house. Easier to maintain than black paint (the hand rail that now has to be used carefully) . Better for hallways, light quality. I love the way you work, together. Great balance. Admit things that went wrong, move on.
black doors and top (like the hand railing section black and the pole portions white) or just accent of black in the railings like that cap section on the big beam??
Hello Emma, How is the paint at the railing doing? I want to use Little Greene for kitchen cabinets and want do now how the paint is holding up. What type of little green paint did you use for the railing? Intelligent eggshell? What kind of primer did you use? I would be really glad, if you can give me an answer.
Looks brilliant, nice colours to last for years that won't age/go out of style. I'm still waiting for the Mickey/Burberry mashup 🤣🙏...Anyway already like a dog with 2 tails waiting for the next episode!!!
Hallo Emma .. love your video's and you !! My opinion White doors nice or the same colour stair rail, maybe darke What about brown doors and stair rail. We finally done renovation in home .❤️
Crushing on Simon when he vlogs and teases you. Love how real you both are doing this yourselves. I'd go white with the doors just my personal preference in summer black tends to absorb heat.
It is gonna look great. Glad you ditched the white and grey. The inspiration must be the Scottish hotel you've stayed last year. On a another note you got me started with painting and faffing around. So my OH says thank you to you two. :). Have a good week.
Black doors and frame? I don’t know about that Emma. But it seems like you’ve made up your mind. If you’re asking for suggestions, as a decorator and stager I’ll stick with the white doors and frame. About the pendant in your dining room, I’d go with the bigger one. If you have a rather small space, it’s best to have bigger items and accessories but not furniture. Scale is important when it comes to furniture. If the size of the light pendant is overpowering the table then maybe your opinion is to get a replacement. Just a suggestion if you’re asking. Best of luck Emma! Great job so far with what both of you have accomplished.
I personally think the door would be nice to be painted in dark brown, because as you said, keeping it in white looks like the same as before, and I think turning it to black would be way too much dark. So if I were you, I would choose the dark brown or chocolate colour to meet a balance while matching some furniture, lamp or frame here and there in the house. Just share some thoughts 🥰 Love your work anyway!
don't be so hard on yourself coz of the paint error .. you must have a billion thing on your mind so it's okay :) you guys are doing such a great job with the renovations ❤
Loving these interior segments, Emma. Keep up the good work, the colours look amazing and I might have a go trying some samples from Little Greene company :)
Now that you and Simon are pros at painting, what are the chances that I can bribe you and Simon to fly to Boston and paint my daughter’s bedroom? She just moved into her own apartment this past weekend and am itching to redo her room . The bright pink walls have to go ! 🤪
Hi Emma .. It’s all looking good .. may I ask .. what’s the name of the large plant next to the palm plant .. in your lounge ..Also did you buy it that size.. or has it grown too monster size ? ..many thanks ..🌿X
Hello Bobette the builder. 👋 your new name lol 👍 Go massive in dining room far more dramatic a statement piece! Coving looks great 👍 good job! Lounge colour is great! What a satisfying job well done. 👍😘😘
Looks lovely both just a thought why not put some Matt clear varnish on the handrail it will protect it from scratches , I love the colours you’ve used x
Myself personally, I would stick with white woodwork; it's nice and crisp and fresh looking. I think because your hallway doesn't get a lot of natural light and with the colour you've painted it; albeit lovely, I think dark doors and bannister might be a bit too much and look a bit depressing! :)
Hi Emma, absolutely enjoying what you and Simon are doing with the house! I was wondering about your house, I am from London and have never come across your style/layout of your home before, I find it really unusual, just wondered about the age and style of your home.. modern? Old? Terraced? Victorian? I never imagined the top of the house to have that layout... sorry I have a strange curiosity about these things xx
It was built in the 1800s and is really unusual (we assume because it has had several extensions over the years). It probably started as a 2 up 2 down but has been extended and due to the property layout the extension(s) had to be a bit more creative which gives it the unusual vibe, which we love and drew us to the property at the start. ❤️
I don’t see any scaffolding, how did you paint your staircase walls???? We have the same and I dread repainting as I fell of the step ladder while still holding onto my long handle roller.....
Wow, I'm utterly impressed by you two! The stairway looks gorgeous and you were willing to do the coving by yourselves?!! But what did I expect of a woman who ran a freaking marathon without proper training! Honestly you impress me, Emma.
Hi Emma, We decided to do our wardrobes in our bedroom like yours and bought Valspar V700 colour match to railings. It did exactly the same as your balustrade. We tried three coats and it wasn't adhering. We then went and bought F&B and its gone on lovely and I prefer the colour. Very frustrating as we then had to sand down three layers of Valspar on 7 wardrobe doors before we could start painting again with F&B. Love Little Greene, my lounge is in Juniper Ash by them, beautiful paint!
@@EmmaHill I did think maybe the person mixing it hadn't done it properly or as you said they have changed something. I have sent a message to their customer service team so will see what they say! Loving your renovation, my husband is cursing you for inspiring me to do every room 😂
Love the wall colour you went for, is it a lot cheaper than F&B? It’s all looking great, at least you’re on the home stretch now. Mistakes happen and I know you beat yourself up, but you got there in the end with the right paint and the balustrade looks really good 😍👍🏻 Seeing a new side to Simon, getting hangry and demanding his fajitas 😆 Am I the only one who heard the song “who let the dogs out” when you said you were letting them out?! 😂🐕 x
The Little Greene paint is actually slightly more expensive 🙈 but we were both really impressed with the application and coverage/finish. And you can use it on everything (apparently) which is really good as it saves buying tins and tins of different paints for small areas, like a radiator. 👍
Emma Hill oh jeez 😬 thought it might be cheaper. The fact it’s multi purpose I guess helps like you say. And the eco friendly element counts for something especially with the dogs to think of as well as yourselves.
With those gorgeous black door handles I personally would keep the doors white so they stand out. Its It's looking so nice Emma and Simon. 😍
I am emotionally and spiritually invested in this reno. Please dont ever stop ❤️❤️❤️ you and your partner are grand and im so entertained ✨🏆❤️🏡🌈
I normally don‘t write comments on UA-cam, but I just have to tell you how much I‘ve been enjoying this series! These videos are the ones I‘m looking forward to watching the most at the moment :) And they really make me want to get my paint brushes out too lol
Thank you ❤️
You can put a frosted door on the bathroom to add natural light into the space so that way you can keep it closed and wont compromise on light.
Or you can remove the panels and replace them with glas, on which you attach matt film?
@emma glass shower doors like that are prone to exploding bc of the temperature changes fyi.
Maddie T i have no idea about the shower doors but would the main door to the bathroom, if its a glass one, would it break?
@@amritad4562 I'm not too sure about that. Might just be safer to use a plastic TBH.
I’ve been following your progress! I don’t know how you both can manage to do all this on your own! I’m super impressed.
It has been tough some days but it is always worth it when you see the finished product that you have achieved. Will be pleased once its finished though 🤣

Oh that would be so nice right now. We do have a little treat planned but not until we are finished ❤️
I vote for the black doors and railings! It would create a beautiful contrast and color blocking! Also LOVE the dramatic coving in the hallway, wow! 😍
I was a bit worried when I saw how big it was but once it was up we were so happy with it ❤️
Looking fab guys, I'm taking note of some of the paint colours for when the time comes, the bannister just transforms the staircase and is a lovely contrast against the taupey walls.x
Emma and Simon = hard core 👊🏼👊🏼
You guys make home renos (Aussie here lol) interesting and inspiring 👌🏼 keep up the good work, plus the blogging! 😘

All looking so good, loving the paint colours! Can't wait to see what you do with the fireplace.
Looks BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the wall color!!!! All those swatches paid off 💕💕💕
I LOVE the idea of changing the bathroom door to frosted glass.
Loving these update videos Emma! You’re so capable & I admire that you’re doing all the work yourselves!
i'm soooo inspired to get on with my home decorations. Thank you for letting us see your efforts and making me giggle, you have a nice team there.

Love the paint colors you've chosen. It's really looking awesome! I like the black paint on the hand rail.

You guys got tons done! It looks so great- beautiful, updated- love it!
Looking good so far, guys! Love the colour scheme with the black and white touches 👍🏻
Everything looks great! Your hard work is really paying off.
Love the lounge colour!! On the railings; the paint has to “cure”, so might become more durable. Things are looking Splendid 🤩. Good Wook🌟
Emma you make everything look chic - that boiler suit you've been sporting... You had a insta pic with a matching T Shirt that made me think, did Sezane come out with a new jumpsuit? You should paint your ceiling the same as the walls, it become a seamless thing and makes everything look bigger.

Simon likes the natural wood doors too but I feel they look unfinished. 🙈
Your home is looking lovely...love the black on the rail...very smart. Doors look great in white ♥️♥️♥️🇨🇦
i think that you should paint the doors frames black and keep the actual doors white, so that they all match the bi color thing on the stairs 😊
Well done guys love the colour of your hallway and lounge. I like you kept the doors white its a good contrast to your lovely black door handles. Cannot wait for next weeks vlog X.

There is a loft/attic above the bathroom so a window wouldn't help 😟
love your home styling! i was secretly hoping you'll paint your hallway black! :) x
It all looks amazing! Looks like a new home! You guys are great! 😊
Can’t wait for the whole project to be done. It’s looking so good!
And us 🤣
Emma Hill 🤣🤣🤣
A huge thumbs up for all the completed works. I'd keep the doors white, just to have a more airy light feeling ( plus we have a very dry climate here with lots of dust, which is ten times more visible on black finishes, you obviously don't have that problem) but that's just a personal preference. One question: how do you manage the smell of the paint, even the paint for interior we buy here has quite a strong smell and although it dries in a couple of hours, I still have to do breaks in between or my head gets all heavy and dizzy .

The grey you've chosen is a relaxing shade you have managed to get loads done as well👌👌👌
Thanks for sharing your progress, it’s great to see how it’s coming along. Love the black bannister 🖤 could you put a clear varnish over it or something to make the paint a bit more durable? Loving the decorating vlogs! x
Lots of people have suggested this but I want a matt finish and worry putting a clear coat would make it too shiny 🤷♀️
Love the colour! Looks amazing, Emma! X
Hallo Emma .. love your video's

Aaaaand instant headache when you turn on the light at 9:24 😵🤣
Btw, cannot wait to see what will happen to the basement...
It looks amazing. Did you use rolling fog light or the rolling fog dark ?
For me, I think the doors and door frames should match the baseboards and crown molding. Looks like a fun project!
Great job Team Hill! It is all taking nice shape. 👍😀
don't be so hard on yourself coz of the paint error .. you must have a billion thing on your mind so it's okay :)
you guys are doing such a great job with the renovations ❤
I love that rolling fog 🥰 & the hand rail xx
Doors and trim would look great white. But add a bit of black to railing, not whole thing. Love what you’ve done!!
Love the colour schemes, really chic! 💜
Love it when Simon vlogs 🤣🤣😍 house looking 👌🏻
🥰
You can buy a protective top coat for the Bannister handrail
Loving these interior segments, Emma. Keep up the good work, the colours look amazing and I might have a go trying some samples from Little Greene company :)

@@EmmaHill I did think maybe the person mixing it hadn't done it properly or as you said they have changed something. I have sent a message to their customer service team so will see what they say! Loving your renovation, my husband is cursing you for inspiring me to do every room 😂
Hi did you paint the balustrade spindles with gloss
It is the same paint we used on the skirting. I can't recall the exact name of it now but it should be detailed in the description box 👍
If you don’t want the paint to scratch you could probably put a polyurethane coat over it or something like that to protect it
The Swatch Queen....lol!
🤣
Love this! beautiful colour! 💕 Your vlogs are so inspiring! Thanks for sharing! 👏🙌 x
I think you should paint the stair spindles in black. It would look great
Maybe do the door frames black and keep the doors white. It will match the banisters.
And the eco friendly element counts for something especially with the dogs to think of as well as yourselves.
hello emma, which wall color is that? do you have a brand with the color code for me?
