Holey moley, you've done a full on job there with the kit. Lot's of mods. It started life as an EK Civic on stilts from the factory an now it's literally on stilts. It certainly looks cool, and not something you see everyday.
Just bought these same tires and received them today and clicked this vid by random and have to say I like the look of them on the CRV and I didn't even have to install yet.
Nice CR-V! I have one from Georgia (I live in Maine), sadly only FWD but completely rust free. It can go more places than my car can. They are definitely fun, and just plain neat. It's a shame Honda ventured so far from the CR-V's original image.
Thanks for making this video. I grew up in California but I moved back to the UK to be with my family. I have a 1997 RD1 and I convinced my dad to buy a 1999 RD2 with an auto to manual swap. Thanks also for mentioning the Freelander coupler I'll have to look into that. I spent some time building Chevy muscle cars but I never thought I'd enjoy working on Honda's so much.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge! I used to take my RD1 offroading and I would hate to hear that howling sound in the sand. The CR-V is designed off of the EK sedan, when you look in the engine bay you can see it. The reason it never will be a jeep is like you said. Honda acknowledged this when they designed and built the car. They said that they wanted to have a compact SUV that people could drive like a car, hence most CR-V are FWD. It was a very clever way to spend money. Though the CR-V is fun I never recommend them for offloading due to the lack of torque and the very finicky RT4WD system.
Super nice Upgrade! I am just getting started with my CRV RD1. I have a quick Question for you. Do you have a vibration with your Napa Axle? I still have the OEM Front Axles and the seem to be shaking / vibrating at 20-45 Mph. I read a lot that most aftermarket Axles will not fix this Problem. Do you have a favourite Brand that does not have this shake? Cheers
Dude. That is a SWEET looking CRV! Subscribed for the look of your CRV alone!! I'm not a mechanic, but I'm learning! Just bought my son a 97 CRV with the 3" HRG lift, but I don't think they installed the drop kit, as the wobble is terrible at low speeds and turning. I'm looking at buying the drop kit, but I'm a little scared to tackle the install...althoughyou said it's easy, and I HAVE watched HRG's install video as well...UA-cam vids ALWAYS look easier than when I attempt things! HA!! Thanks for the video!! Looking forward to more!

What a great build, thanks for the walkaround and explanantions of key things. Looking to go very similar direction with my RD1 build. Are those functional rock sliders? Appreciate any more info. Thanks
Looks amazing, but its so much you gotta do to lift 🤯 I know how to lower cars, but lifting is a whole other game. I have a civic that I use mainly like a track build so lowered. Recently got a 2000 crv awd and want to lift it,but seeing this has me mind blown.
Wicked cool video man! love seeing everything you've done to it and all the information. Like that detail on the napa axles, I've read about lifting crvs a lot and never heard that. Didn't feel too long to me. subscribed
FANTASTIC Video! I very much have decided to do this, just trying to decide between the 3" ultimate and 4" ultimate kits. So I'm while I'm working on the mechanical parts list, the wife wants to know where you got the side graphics. She saw the CRV ones on ebay, but liked yours more. Yours is such a clean build. great job with the Honda.
Hey, love the build! Quick question. I'm considering getting the OME spring/ Bilstein combo. Do i need to worry about the adjustable links for the trailing arms with keeping the lift minor? I didnt know if thats only something to worry about once you drop the subframe.
You won't be able to get it back in to exact oem spec with anything more than 1 inch of lift. I would recommend adjustable upper control arms and adjustable toe arms. Getting your alignment back in spec is important for your tire wear and makes sure you can drive it straight down the road!
what wagon is the coupler from - where did you get yours from and how much? other options for coupler - what year freelander? I've heard using the element differential is much stronger? this is a great video thank you btw thumbs up and subscribed! I'm stoked you're having so much fun building it. that's why I bought one too- just starting doing my research - never had a suv always cars so this will be a fun change for me. keep it up!
Alot of the information you need can be had from the CR-V group on Facebook and also the Performance Hondas Facebook group. These modifications are covered in alot of detail these days with how popular they have become. I have several civic wagon here that I've been buying over the years to fix up. My main project car is a RT4WD Civic Wagon. I'm not familiar with the Land Rover Freelander viscous stuff as I have personally never messed with any of them. You can find most of what you need off ebay if you wanted to. And the only Element diff that is stronger is a the 08-11 Element.
Have you experienced any wobble after hitting bumps? I’ve lifted my rd1 about 4 inches and I’m getting a crazy sway after hitting dips at highway speeds. Waiting on rear upper camber arms to come in, notices bushings were a little worn, any info would help!
Nice CRV! A couple of questions about improving performance; are the Bilstein Struts and Siberian RTA bushings a better upgrade than any other brands especially with energy suspension bushings? Is the viscous coupler a must in improving drivability/reliability with the RD1s? I am not looking to off-road the car at all maybe here and there sometimes but never a long trip off-road not longer than an hour tops. I have many more questions to ask about improvements recommended to do but here is just a couple of them for now. Thank you for sharing I look forward to more videos 👍🏽
I wouldn't say they are better necessarily since there is alot of good options on the market right now for the cr-v, but for my specific application and using it more offroad and on trails these seems to work good for me.
Do not consider the viscous coupler as an upgrade if you only use it for light Offroading or trails since you won't see much gain for what you need. Keep it how it is and do all your maintenance and fluids and it'll be just fine.
Thank you for your input! Will keep these in mind. Right now I’m just doing maintenance and repairs using as much oem parts possible for the time being until I feel ready to put any modifications to improve drivability/performance of the vehicle. Really looking forward to the rear disc swap video! 👍🏽
Question did you ever had vibration from 20 miles to 25 mph I change the axles from CR-V I change the upper am from true hard then I started having that issue
Honda CR-V endlinks suck and fail and make lots of noise. With how often I do trail rides it helps give me more articulation per wheel. I have stiffer springs that help with sway for daily driving.
@@cougarlove8542 do you have Facebook? You can join Real Time Hondas FB page and make a post about it on there and he may be able to get you some info.
It negatively effects daily driving on pavement, but the gains for trails is worth it for me personally. So everyone has to make that decision for themselves but it isn't recommended since it causes alot more body roll.
