Yeah and I - as a vocal coach - disagree to the should ...closed or open vowel is just a question of taste...breath support wise the closed vowel is much easier and less hard to sustain (especially on a tired or sick day). It is less resonant BUT it is also quieter so a valid choice if you decide to not go 10 on the volume meter in the high belt area. She did open it up in a lot of performances...Willemijn that is...she can do it all. love how the german one (pia? the thrid one!) acutally sang "fängt mich ein" for the "bring me down" bit, which translates to "catch me", but the "mich ein" sounds like "me down" which i bet you she was going for because i am still hurting from those terrible german lyrics, they did not only do Idina dirty! 😂
ive seen pia as didi allen in 2022 in tilburg and willemijn as elphaba somewhere between 2011-2013 in scheveningen and elsa as a young kid ( she voices her in dutch both singing and speach and in german singing) now i listen to frozen in english and willemijn played elphaba over 2000 times in 3 langueses and 4 countrys and 5 productions, now she is going to play elsa in frozen in germany
My favorite Elphaba either has to be Eden Espinosa (That one clip of her wasn't great. She can do WAY better) or Stephanie j. Block. Willemijn Verkaik and Danna Paola are pretty stellar, too, though! Danna just sings is so flawlessly.
My husband is not into musicals. When we went to New York I forced him to come along and watch Wicked- I promissed I'd pay for all the cocktails he needed. He had one cocktail and was absolutely smitten with the musical and Lindsay Mendez' performance. It's that good.
Willemijn is amazing she played elphaba in the German and Dutch cast and also played on Broadway and the west end with over 2000+ performances (She played the role of elphaba from 2007 to 2017 )

Poor Idina.. They chose one of the worst performances ever. There are so many bootlegs of her on stage and they chose.. that.. *le sigh* PS: I LOVE CALEB AND I'M SO GLAD HE WAS ADDED TO THIS
When she said she thought this would be just Broadway singers that played Elphaba, I couldn't help but imagine Caleb in a tight black dress and a witch hat. He would totally wear it, change my mind
Definitely need to do a best glee songs compilation! Lea Michelle is an amazing singer! Idina Menzel is also on there for a couple of seasons, but there are so many underrated singers from glee!!!
Idina sounds so much better live (in person I mean). She did it live in London a few years back (2016 I think) and my mouth stayed opened for the whole concert. She was out of this world, truly better than I could have ever imagined.
I’ve seen wicked 4 times on Broadway and I’d see it again. It’s an amazing show! The actors and actresses are so impressive and the story telling and music is amazing.
I’m actually surprised that Beau Dermott wasn’t in this video. I know she was a kid, but hers is like the most-watched performance of the song on UA-cam.
I’ve seen this musical 5 times and it has NEVER not given me chills. Like I cry when I hear this song because everything about it is just so good. The solo, the chorus, Glinda, everything is just UGH 😭
4:29 that's Pia Douwes, she is a dutch musical actress and she is also pretty known in Germany and Austria because she's been doing a lot of shows there for like 30 years. Also she's singing in German in this clip :)
I was super lucky to see Jacqueline Hughes play Elphaba on the UK tour and when I say she was flawless, I mean utterly flawless. Every note was unreal and she hit a G#5 in the No Good Deed fiyero riff and my soul left my body
Every time idina hits that ending note I cringe and get chills and I love it so much. Reminds me of my theater days when my voice could hit that note. Ughhhhh shes such a goddess
Did you know that Willemijn at (06:50) played Elphaba in Germany, Holland, New York and London! She and Pia both played in Elizabeth at the same time too! And Willemijn has played Elphaba for over 10 years! And she played Elsa in frozen in 2 languages! And many other things!
Idina isn't the best for consistency, but she's probably the best raw ACTRESS Elphaba ever had- her notes have meaning and her acting skills bring her a step beyond- so many other Elphabas come off as grumpy or too snippy, but she was perfect with the vulnerability and the attempts at disregarding others.
I grew up playing sports my whole life, in school I was more of a “jock” but I remember in like 2006 I went to see Wicked on Broadway and the next day I signed up for theatre and fell in love with it. @@alemobra5747 it's all good 👍. I get that some things can come across differently to different people... Thx for understanding what I was saying 😊
That’s so rude… who was the singer?
Rachel Tucker is an underrated talent imo. She's soooo good! Could you maybe react to more of her? Her singing Defying Gravity at West End Live 2011 is a really good one!
I love it when you stop to talk about it! Technical analysis is what I'm here for.
I believe it was shoshana's last show, so she was probably very emotional that day. even so she did great as always
We need more Shoshana here.... Just sayin...
Yes we do!!
Absolutely! She’s a freaking *QUEEN!*
I know i totally agree
Love her😭💕
@@honey4501 Bad idea reference????
I'd love to see you react to Hannah Corneau singing "No Good Deed" it's one of the best performances I've ever seen; her acting is INCREDIBLE
YES YES YES
For Eden Espinosa, some my favourites from her is everything in Tangled the series, granted it isn't live, but she's absolute gold in that show.
omg YESSS i was just about to comment this! 💖
YES!!!!
YASSS I LOVE CASSANDRA ❤❤
Agreed, she sounds amazing as Cassandra
When I heard Regine's clip my jaw DROPPED. I haven't heard that section of the song sung that well and with that balanced of a belt literally ever in my life. She NAILED that 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
💯💯💯
I fell in love with Alice Fearn's voice when I saw her live last year
Yes I looove her!
the number of times i've watched this compilation (and others) just to obsess over the different riffs...i can't get enough
love how the german one (pia? the thrid one!) acutally sang "fängt mich ein" for the "bring me down" bit, which translates to "catch me", but the "mich ein" sounds like "me down" which i bet you she was going for because i am still hurting from those terrible german lyrics, they did not only do Idina dirty! 😂
ive seen pia as didi allen in 2022 in tilburg and willemijn as elphaba somewhere between 2011-2013 in scheveningen and elsa as a young kid ( she voices her in dutch both singing and speach and in german singing) now i listen to frozen in english and willemijn played elphaba over 2000 times in 3 langueses and 4 countrys and 5 productions, now she is going to play elsa in frozen in germany
YESSS I WAS RLY HOPING CHRIS COLFER AND LEA MICHELE WOULD BE IN HERE AND THEY WERE 😩😩
Came to comments just to see if they were 😁
listening to pia again with the old german translations of the song that never made it to the show brings back memories, i kinda like that version xD
Willemijn, my Dutch queen. Forever getting goosebumps hearing her sing 💛
Willemijn is amazing she played elphaba in the German and Dutch cast and also played on Broadway and the west end with over 2000+ performances
(She played the role of elphaba from 2007 to 2017 )
i lowkey think willemijn is one of the best elphabas, especially bc she played her in three different languages!!!??? queen
I am so happy that there ist finally one compliation with Willemijn Verkaik. She sung the German (original one) and Dutch Elphaba (for many years) and also in Britain and Amerika (for a short period of time) and she did all three languages so well! I'm a huge Fan of her, she is just amazing.
Poor Idina.. They chose one of the worst performances ever. There are so many bootlegs of her on stage and they chose.. that.. *le sigh*
PS: I LOVE CALEB AND I'M SO GLAD HE WAS ADDED TO THIS
Caleb Hyles is soooooo good!
Because the person who compiled this video has it out for Idina. That’s clear from the performance they chose and the way they put her up.
You should definitely react to more videos of Willemijn singing. She's awesome!
Idina sounds so much better live (in person I mean). She did it live in London a few years back (2016 I think) and my mouth stayed opened for the whole concert. She was out of this world, truly better than I could have ever imagined.
Did not expect to see Pia Douwes here. She'll always be the best Elisabeth and a big part of why I started to truly appreciate musicals.
Mitch Grassi aye! I love pentatonix and superfruit
Its almost 1am and I'm listening to our lovely voice coach SCREAMING into my ears.
What a wonderful night uwu
Part of the human experience
I was so surprised to see Pia Douwes in this one! Growing up she was me and my sister's favourite musical actress and she's honestly so talented!
I saw Jessica Vosk on broadway a few years ago and she did one of the most amazing renditions of Defying Gravity I have ever seen!
The earbud microphone trying to keep with Hannah's singing tho
PLEASE DO THE “NO GOOD DEED FYIERO RIFF COMPARISON!!!”
You have no idea how long I have been scrolling for a comment mentioning her she was so good in that performance
Absolutely, Beau owns this song now, no contest
I’ve seen this musical 5 times and it has NEVER not given me chills. Like I cry when I hear this song because everything about it is just so good. The solo, the chorus, Glinda, everything is just UGH 😭
Me- Casually watching this
Also me- CHRIS COLFER AHSHOSJWOSNDOWJDKWLNS
I think Stephanie J. Block did it amazing every time I saw her, live and recorded. She is fantastic.
Please Check this out.. "NEVER ENOUGH(The Greatest Showman)" by a Filipino girl group 4TH IMPACT Tnx, Happy reacting :)
I'll put the link here : ua-cam.com/video/8Bu-CKEjJk0/v-deo.html
4:29 that's Pia Douwes, she is a dutch musical actress and she is also pretty known in Germany and Austria because she's been doing a lot of shows there for like 30 years. Also she's singing in German in this clip :)
Mitch will always be my favorite on this song. It's so effortless.
i got chills right @ 18:00 because of the “i hope your happy” oh my goshh it was so in tuneeeeeee
you should do a video on jessica vosk singing no good deed. she is A M A Z I N G.
I scrolled until I saw someone with this comment. Her rendition of The wizard and I gave me fucking goosebumps
Yes, I was hoping to see Jessica in this video.
Mitch. Even if he does look like an avocado.
I love you!
I was super lucky to see Jacqueline Hughes play Elphaba on the UK tour and when I say she was flawless, I mean utterly flawless. Every note was unreal and she hit a G#5 in the No Good Deed fiyero riff and my soul left my body
I absolutely love Danna Paola and everything she does!!!
Every time idina hits that ending note I cringe and get chills and I love it so much. Reminds me of my theater days when my voice could hit that note. Ughhhhh shes such a goddess
OMG DO "WHO SANG SO MUCH BETTER THE BEST" NEXT PLSS
Yes please!
Did you know that Willemijn at (06:50) played Elphaba in Germany, Holland, New York and London! She and Pia both played in Elizabeth at the same time too! And Willemijn has played Elphaba for over 10 years! And she played Elsa in frozen in 2 languages! And many other things!
Okay but can we get a redo with Cynthia in the mix now that the movie is out 😩
OMG Pia Douwes!! I did not expect to see her. She is so amazing.
i know ppl have a lot to say about Idina's technique and consistency but she's the only Elphaba that makes me cry so 🤷♀️
You need to see Kerry Ellis or Jennifer DiNoia play. Far far better.
@@sarahlouise31984 read my comment again 🤷♀️
Idina isn't the best for consistency, but she's probably the best raw ACTRESS Elphaba ever had- her notes have meaning and her acting skills bring her a step beyond- so many other Elphabas come off as grumpy or too snippy, but she was perfect with the vulnerability and the attempts at disregarding others.
Agreed I take Idinas Elphie any day so much emotion.
What exactly is the technique she is doing that is bad?
I grew up playing sports my whole life, in school I was more of a “jock” but I remember in like 2006 I went to see Wicked on Broadway and the next day I signed up for theatre and fell in love with it. I can’t sing anywhere near well enough to be at this point but I’m not terrible though it definitely made high school strange for me rolling with the football, soccer, and basketball team as well as chilling with the theatre kids. To this day Wicked will always have a special place in my heart
OMFG CALEB HYLES IS LITERALLY SO FRIGGIN INCREDIB,E U SHOULD DEFINITELY REACT TO A BUNCH OF HIS VIDEOS I WOULD WATCH U DO A WHOLE VID BASED ON HIM
Annapantsu does a good cover of this song, and her “no good deed” has one of the best “fiyero”s I have ever heard! Trust me! Go watch it!
Pls react to Morissette Amon rendition of DEFYING GRAVITY at stages session live💞
Yes, she's on the top of them all.
14:13 Danna Paola was just 18 years old when she was Elphaba in Wicked
i know you’ve reacted to jeremy jordan before, but his cover of “i told you now” by sam smith is INSANE
I literally fell apart when I saw that performance 🤯🤯
Oh i am always down to react to him!!
I saw Wicked on West End when I was living in the UK and Alice Fearn and Sophie Evans were INCREDIBLE
Loved this! Can you react to the singing in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (2015 Paper Mill Playhouse Production)? They killed it!
I was in the choir of the La Jolla run!!! I want her to review the videos of the show so bad!!
Appreciate you including Pia in this video, did not expect that. She is absolutely a terrific singer who should be known by more people!
