Awesome video per usual. Great message regarding Joe. I was thinking about your cook set question. I use Canadian mess kits , a rectangular pan with handles. They come in a set of two and fit inside each other. I went to a restaurant supplies store and got service tray lids that you see in cafeterias and buffets. They act as lids and hold them in place with para cord or ranger bands.

Took me several episodes watching Alone show into satellite imagery to pinpoint their location, all posted up Canadian govt remote wilderness campsites. Further inspection revealed a network of logging trails, Joe bushwacking through extreme terrain, where he lost his firesteel there was a logging camp just a short distance away, if the wind was right you could probably smell the diesel -- coulda stopped by for a hotpocket, a frosty beverage and a bic lighter.

I've been watching Joe Robinet for at least ten years. Sadly, his content has been so long (45-100 minutes) that I stopped watching as much. I did see his post about being in the dirt bike accident, and do feel for him; he bought a house about five or so years ago someplace a little more remote so he could do videos with his oldest daughter. He had physical problems to begin with, and struggles with them even in his videos.
I was watching him when he broke 1M subs on My Self Reliance in from of Shawn's (yes, another Shawn lol) old cabin. YT does not come with health insurance, even if you have over 1M subs. When you have an accident like this, it's catastrophic. Given your request, I'll give something to Joe very soon.
I recently found that one man tents, or tents in general, are no longer my thing. That being said, lighter is better, and the tent you have would be light, but not ideal in summer. Circulation is everything, and that is how you stay cool, comfy, and condensation-free in the summer. It is light, though.....
Thanks again, sir, for the video. The hiker's pantry is a good option for food stores.

I love watching these over nighters. I learned a lot from you. I'm just a woman who likes to camp and hike. Sometimes, I go CMO (competitive mounted orienteering ) camping with a friend and our horses. Mostly, I go alone. I was camping 30 years ago, but I learned the most from you. I also learned a lot about camp food from Rose Red's Trail Grazers. I know how to use lots of knots now, too. I know many ways to start a fire! My only weakness is just that... I can't dig deep into the ground. I don't have muscle power like you do!. I'm in Northern Illinois with lots of rocks and clay. But I love your videos. And I have bought some of your items. Thank you.

Love what you do, but you have to realize everything runs its course and then it's over. If you don't have a plan to pivot to, then, you are in trouble. Basically, every content creator on YT is on a TV show. They don't last forever, even the best ones go 10 years before they get redundant. There is only so much any of you can do without being overly derivative. Plus, the attention span of people is short, and people get bored.
You have other business opportunities happening and are planning future ones, that's great. The YT channel will eventually fade away, if it hasn't started already, whether from YT throttling or simply lack of interest. You can only do so many overnighters in the same forest.
Keep up the good work, hope your plans and efforts support you and your family for the next 40 or so years.

Great video as always! I have one piece of life saving advice with a bivy type tent. My Dad and I were avid hikers, he was really into light weight. One night he got this new bivy tent, the condensation got his goose down sleeping bag wet and he almost died of hypothermia. Luckily his buddy was there, heard him asking for help and got a fire going. So a bivy and synthetic fill would be better.

They are a handy size for storing extra screws, nuts, bolts, and nails in the workshop too. We used to use baby food jars for that, way back in the day.

He earned his money but seemed to spend it all on a magnificent house by a lake and multiple vehicles and motorcycles. He had a good life but now it seems that the money has run out. He should have prepared for the future like everyone else has to. Sorry I won’t be sending my hard earned money to him. I too have massive health issues but apparently unlike him I prepared for my future by not being extravagant in my own spending.

I make it extra waterproof with a piece of Eax paper between the lid and the jar. I have these with rice, beans, pancake mix (just add water), jersey, elbow noodles, smaller portions of dehydrated foods, etc. Ibhave also divided the pint using a zip lock bag to give 1/2 pint of rice, shared with 1/2 pint of beans, etc. In a pinch it can be a water container, or for leftovers-airtight. Of all the bivys and bivy tents I've seen tested on UA-cam, this one seems to be the one that I would be most interested in. It has a decent amount of room plus the space to store your pack outside the sleeping area. Another good job, corporal!

Not saying that this isn't good. Outhaus makes one that's a lottle heavier due to the fact that it's canvas and has a mattress in it. But it breathes better and actually has airflow.

I found your channel from Joe Robinet. You do similar but a different vibe. When I saw his video, I thought it was click bait. Seeing him on that video, hearing him talk, seeing him in that state. Is sad. Kudos to you for drawing attention to this. Thanks for the video.

I always find your foods interesting and was wondering that if you haven’t already done one if you could do a video on the psychology of just having a warm meal that doesn’t taste bad, I don’t have any military experience but I used to work shitty hours that usually caused me to miss dinner with my family and I know just having something warm to eat can make all the difference

I bet you could turn the "bedroll pantry" canvas bag inside out and use it as Millbank water filter bag. For those who don't understand, turning it inside out means the outside gets dirty but when righted, the inside stays clean.

Sharpie tip - Use the "industrial" Sharpie (Wal-Mart usually has them) and cover your writing with Scotch tape. It prevents the marker from rubbing off and is pretty weather proof.

It seems like there is a lot of confusion about bushcrafting and lightweight gadget hiking. I have met people that had very uncomfortable situations arise while carrying the "coolest" gadgets. Glad there's work like yours to bring awareness to the difference. It could even mean the difference between life and saying goodbye.

Hi Corp, I'm a big fan of the Trangia camp sets. with the 1.5l pans and skillet lids. Great for groups and the quality of Trangia gear is exceptional. Good to see someone cooking lentils on a camp out. I love taking beans dried out to slow cook on the second or third night out with stock cubes and some root veg and jerky.
If you want to look at an interesting shelter, Alton Goods, and Australian company, has an interesting mesh shelter and tarp combo I've really enjoyed using on ultra-light trips, as well as a great bivvy option if you like sleeping in a coffin.
Also, good on you for giving Joe a shout out. Always enjoyed watching his videos and I miss Scout.

MSR makes the Stowaway pots that have a handle that doubles as a latch for the lid. Several sizes have been available over the years. Lid isn’t ideal for use as a skillet but would probably work in a pinch. A short piece of wire makes them suitable for hanging over a fire too.
