    So do you mean..we hve to find the trigger pin in the coil circuit? And connect it with positive from battery to trigger? And just turn on thecar?

    Hey! This seems like a quality video with some great information. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough to really understand what is going on.
    I am particularly interested in the solution for the Corolla.
    Are you able to link the diagram for the coil-over-plug(COP) that you showed in the video?
    What does backprobing do?
    What type of clip are you using to ground the spark plug?
    You mention that you have the test light hooked up to B+ while touching the tip to the engine block, is this the same B+ that you mentioned is a part of the COP circuitry; does that mean the other end of the test light is already hooked up to the B+ on the pack or is there another B+?-I’ve not used a test light before, is there a standard or would I need a particular one, are you able to provide a link to the one you are using in the video?
    Thank you for your time and for making this video!

    • @westleymiller3111
      @westleymiller3111 4 роки тому +7

      Austin Lowther it’s connected to the battery positive. The test lightbulb reduces the voltage to a safe level as you’re working on a 5v ECU circuit.
      When he touches the engine with the tip it completes a 12v circuit to turn the test light on as the engine is an earth point (connected to battery negative)

    Very nice, my question is how does the transistor in the COP does not get destroyed with the 12 Volt ? A last question, how can I trigger 2 wire ignition coil , can just supply the negative wire with a ground ? Thanks in advance.

    by B+ you mean positive terminal? How do you get the voltage reduced to 4V?

    • @wdtony

      I believe the computer reduces the voltage to the primary coil.

      He states the test light is hooked up to B+ and is reduced voltage. Ignition on.
      And this is the state B+ should be in until the computer opens the switch to collapse the field in the secondary winding. Since the car isn’t running, the primary (B+) will remain closed with reduced voltage available to the test light.

  • @gagnant4
    @gagnant4 4 роки тому

    "test light hooked up to big plus, we'll use the reduced voltage" what does that mean, does he mean he hooked the test light to the positive on the battery and if so why would that be reduced voltage....so confused!

    • @lcmotorvehiclerepair3961
      @lcmotorvehiclerepair3961 4 роки тому +3

      gagnant 4 its reduced voltage because he uses an incandescent test light. If you stick a jumper wire from battery positive there would probably be some fire works.
      The test light is a very useful tool. Almost broken wires can show 12v on a multimeter however they do not carry enough current (amps) to light an incandescent. Its because of the resistance of the bulb inside the test light.

    • @tboneproductions2453
      @tboneproductions2453 4 роки тому +7

      He’s connected his test lite to the battery positive post(12volts). The incandescent bulb in the test lite reduces the voltage from the battery positive post (12 volts) down to 4 volts which the Toyota uses as trigger voltage. As Liam stated, the resistance in the test lite bulb is what reduces the voltage. Hope this helped.

      It would depend on what type of ignition system the 90’s car uses. This test was just for the smart coil systems on late model engines. You can trigger some ignition systems with electric drills or soldering guns when they are placed next to the reluctor.

    • @kennedywong9854
