  • This week we're going to show you just how easy it is to make your own lace wedding veil - plus 3 different ways to wear it! It's a great way to save some pennies on your big day, not to mention it looks beautiful!
    You will need:
    1 meter of tulle
    3 meters of lace trim
    Invisible thread and needle
    Scissors
    Measuring tape
    Pins
    Hair comb / Hair pins
    Making the Wedding Veil:
    Step 1:
Fold your 1m length of Tulle in half… and then in half again.
    Step 2:
Mark 48cm away from the corner and turn the measure as you mark to form a curve.
    Step 3:
Cut the tulle to the marks.
    Step 4:
    Open out into a circle.
    Step 5:
Lay the lace onto the tulle, pinning it as you go.
    Step 6:
Pattern match the lace at the end. Snip into the flower to shape and secure with a pin. Cut along the pattern to make sure it looks seamless.
    Step 7:
Blanket stitch the edge of the lace trim to the tulle. (make sure the needle is in fronto of the thread as you stich and pull through).
    Step 8:
Continue stitching until you reach the end of the lace trim.
    Step 9:
Stich along the lace at the end to secure it together. Do not sew all of the lace to the tulle… just the top edge.
    ….
    Three Looks:
    Traditional Drop Veil:
Center the veil over your head
Take hair pins to secure onto your hair… use a few.
For the reception you can pull it back over your face.
    Ballet Length, Single tier veil:
Place the comb under the lace trim, teeth facing out.
    Secure the comb with stitching.
Place the comb under your styled hair at the back of your head.
    Mantilla Veil:
Place the comb under the lace trim, teeth facing in.
    Secure the comb with stitching
Place the comb above your styled hair at the back of your head.
    Notes/links to buy:

This is so helpful! Even the most basic veils can be ridiculously expensive and there's something lovely about wearing something you made yourself.

It is so special to make something yourself... and you could even keep it as a family heirloom for years to come! Good luck... and please send us photos if you do make one! x

love this!! I was considering actually sewing lace into the hem of my dress but it would take a lot of time i think and the appliques would cost too much to order so many. But a veil is doable :)

Hi, thank you so much for this video! I'll be sewing my own veil for my wedding in august following your tutorial, it helped me so much! One question: How exactly do you sew the veil onto the comb? I couldn't really understand how I should do this part. Thank you so much, again! :)

Love this video! Would you be able to make a cathedral veil using the same technique?

    • @bridedeforce5166
      @bridedeforce5166 7 років тому +9

Yes, you would just have to alter the shape and have more sewing on your hands. But if you have the time and patience it would most certainly be possible. Just leave lots of time before your wedding. : )) Please please send photos if you do make one. x

I would love to make my own vail and dress! But it's consistent bad luck for the bride to do her things for the wedding (like shoes dress makeup hair and vail ,not decor) :( and I'm too superstitious too break the rules haha :D nice video

I'm so back and forth about whether or not I'm going to wear a veil. I just don't know if I like the look and how I'd want to wear it

Hi, i was wondering if ur lace applique will bunch up/gather at the curve part. I've seen quite some videos galking abt how they snip off a lil at the parts that bunch up so that they can lay the lace flat at the curve part, but ur's seem to have none of that problem? I'm currently in a project where I'm sewing lace applique onto the circular part of the train on my dress and the curve part in the harder cause my lace applique is big and it gather/bunch up a lot at the curve part. I'm sorry for the long text and I hope u understand what I'm saying as i really need some help here. Thanks :)
