I think the most important part of what i learned in this video for me is heat from outer part of circle going in towards the center and not to start from center working outward.
Just remember to deep clean your wheels with something like brake parts cleaner which really eats at any oil and grime. Otherwise the wrap wont stick very well. I deep cleaned and wrapped my wheels about a year and a half ago and theres no signs of wear or peeling yet.
Just wash with a sponge or the soft side of a car wash mitt. I use the same (Maguires) car wash solution on my wrapped rims, as I do the entire car. No fading or peeling the entire time I had this last wrap on them. (appx 11 months now). I'm doing an entire car, color change at the moment... so I needed a refresher on applying the vinyl. But they still look as good as the day I applied them. Do NOT use the rough side (the side that removes bugs/road gunk) or a brush. Not sure if it'll scuff matte finished vinyl... but I can guarantee it will on shiny/chrome color vinyl. First time I ever wrapped anything, was my bike rims with chameleon color changing vinyl....I used a plastic bristle tire and rim brush, and all you could see was swirls and scuffs left in the vinyl. Edit to add, I only use Vivid vinyls for my vehicle wraps... so I can't attest to other brands and how well they hold up.
Honestly I haven’t wrapped my tires with the vinyl yet but I’ve done inner fender decals on my jeep and they are just as beautiful as when I put them on. But I’m going to find out! Tires are my next thing to do on my car.
If only it were that easy..ive done my windows taillights and headlights..this is all technique and practice this is a professional..this would take me 15times on one tire to get it to come out like that..p.s. All i use is vvivid it is GREAT....i wish i could do this exact to my rims but it would cost way to much...to do it myself..but man it looks great
@LLC That's not the clear coat. It's clear protective vinyl, the sort of stuff that is usually on top of logo badges, electronic screens, etc when they are now.
I'd either spray paint them or use plastidip I case I decide want the stock color . Wrapping takes a good amount of practice unless it's a solid flat surface basically like a roof of car maybe would be easiest for first timers even then of not done properly can come. Undone
If you heated up vinyl wrap to stretch it and then once it got hot it wanted to go back to its original shape what would be the point of heating it in the first place? People do not know what they are talking about. Been wrapping for years, no videos, but I do know what I’m doing. So please if you do not wrap then do not criticize anyone’s work. My 2 cents! Good job bro!
with a only a sharp blade its possible to just cut the vinyl and not scratch underneath. If your blade is dull you can scratch. blades always gotta stay sharp that way you are barely putting any pressure just enough to cut through the vinyl.
Because, your NOT PAYING me enough! My fees increase when customers expect a post install disassembly. If you are that picky? Then you will be paying more
This is afaik not the way to do it. Start from the middle, as the wheel is not flat, otherwise there is tension. It's okay to stretch vinyl, but after the heat is gone and applies again (by sun-light), the vinyl tries to "go back" to it's original form, ruining everything. So next time, from the middle to the outside, not the other way around. Seems like everybody today can be a "vinyler". EDIT: also the cutting is terrible.
Well, good thing we are trained professionals. We have thousands of cars in experience. You are right that dissipating stretch from the center is best and that is what's done in the video. The outer rim is actually flat ( video may show the illusion that it bevels in.) we must get the top flat area out of the way first to give us a flat middle to push in. Thanks for the comment.
I really don't want to insult someone here. I think most customers don't come back after their vinyl comes off. Every vinyl cover looks great in the beginning. But moisture and heat ruins it. So you see the good result, but after 1-2 months the customers see something else. But you won't see that probably, because you don't visit your customers, logically. Thanks for your answer.
Moisture and heat will do nothing to cast vinyl. Calendered vinyl yes, I agree with you, heat will destroy it. VViViD warrants their material 2 years and expects up to 5-7 years out of the vinyl.
It was streched evenly in the center and with proper post heating it's there for good. It's possible to make it long term that way if you know what you are doing.
Lol it's called appealing to the mass.. Which do you think will sell more? A video showing how hard and long it takes to do something VS A video showing how easy and short it takes to do something? Hence why they fastforward it as well.
Hello love how you teach and talk to us watching. So I'm going spray my car. Suzuki x-90. Black with hot pink strips. So question if I vinyl wrap my rims correctly. And need to have new tires put on my rims. How will they hold up to torture of the process?
I purchased some vivid vinyl and wow, so much harder to work with than 3m, Avery, or arlon. super glossy and looks great once done but seriously frustrating stuff. very unforgiving.
Any way to wrap the sides and lip without bubbles? I did my interior and some spots have unprovable bubbles to only the installer and or someone who has wrapped before. I heated it plenty.
Air release technology....you may not need the answer now. But someone might lol. Its literally magic how the bubbles disappear. Most company have it nowadays i wrapped my car with KPMF BRAND and it was super easy and id never done it before
How much wrap for 20” inch rims??? 20 inches is 20” straight across the flat part of outer wheel. Then theres a groove and then rubber tire. Give the groove an inch and another inch for grabbing to trim off. Imagine the wheel is a 20” square. A piece of wrap thats 23” to 24” x 23” to 24” square will cover the wheel.
Fantastic question Frank Romero. Maybe i can give you an example of such a thing you have seen before already that required covering the lip of a circle. ‘Apple Pie’. When a pie is made its laid down on top of filling and the edges hang over the pie pan and are tucked under the pie pan. The dough will bulge all around the pies edge because its constantly overlapping onto itself as you go around tucking the pie. The baker uses his finger to make impressions in the dough so it sticks to the pie pan. Leaving the crust looking wavy or up and down all the way around it. How can you make the dough not wavvy and have a flat clean edge around the pie? By cutting miniature slices in the dough on the parts hanging off the pie so that the dough doesnt bulge, but instead lays right under the dough next to it and you start on one part and go all the way around making small slits and then lay dough on, then lay dough on top of that dough and press w your finger to make it look like its all one piece. You dig? The answer is tiny slits have to be cut where the vinyl is going to be trimmed off after its heated and secured onto rim. Another term for that is called cutting the pleat line.

that vinyl is surprisingly sturdy, I was wondering the same but when I did it on my window trim I was surprised how solid it is, basically sun cant harm it at all and its scratch resistant

Thanks for taking it slow on the hardest parts. Genius.
Lmao
Yup I’d screw it all up
I would like to have seen the inside done too. That's the hard part
Look man make a slit at the holes form the junt out with the heating gun and cut off access off
I’m no pro but I’m going to try it out tomorrow
The inside doesnt get wrapped usually. Lots of labors to it would cost almost as Powder Coating which -imo- is a better option than wrap.

Somebody in Amazon's gave this stickers poor comment but thanks at least I should get one of these

Work in ELEVATION. notice the 1st place the Installer started applying? It was the highest point. Left slack to stretch
Going to wrap my fuel cleaver rims. It's black and I just want the spokes to be mirror chrome. I think it will look sick
Hell yeah!
Your wraps look good but you need a pro to do these videos. Show that rim at an angle and I bet the wrap doesn't even go all the way around the rim!

You took the easy route on that wheel. I came here to learn something. You just stuck vinyl to the face of the wheel.

You didn’t wrap them you applied a giant vinyl sticker to the top. You need to WRAP every spoke sides and front not just the top.
Why? Is it because the vinyl will not be as adhered to the wheel? Sounds like your way is better.

Piano laquer is as reflective as a mirror, its just black. Gloss is simply real shiny.
