As someone who doesn't understand the hype around mechanical keyboards (and yes I've used one and not for just minutes), this is going to be perfect for me.
Thats not a hype, its just a huge difference in quality in any way. Once you use/d a mechanical you just cant/wont go back. A rubberdome feels awful, mushy and just not good and satisfying at all! Yea, some switches are quite loud, but there are great silent options out there as well nowadays. Just no need to look at and type on an unfortunately mostly just hideous and definitely mushy rubberdome keyboard! Also midrange mechanicals are not even much more expensive than for example this imo crappy K55!
I'm using all my money for my PC that i m building, but I wouldn't have enough for a nice keyboard. Thank you for reviewing this! Now I know what to get!
I have a BW X chroma and I love it, but its starting to have issues. But I do love mechanical keyboards, I just want something quiet for my YT videos. I'd take this over the BW X tbh.
This is definitely hands down the best membrane keyboard I've used. I have to type with shitty dell membranes at work, and the keys on the k55 are responsive and satisfying. Granted it's not as satisfying as mechanical switches, but they're excellent for what it's worth.
Shremeant This keyboard or Logitech g413/810. The Logitech g413 and 810 have romer mechanical switches which are very quiet and awesome to type on, but the k55 is also quiet and very satisfying for a membrane.
Being an owner of this keyboard I have to say everything is perfect about this expect for the switches, I wish they had cherrys but after all it's just 50
The keyboard does actually interface with the ICUE software. I just installed it and am messing with the colors and functions right now. The amount of things you can do is limited as the key board is not a high end keyboard and it only has three zones of led's. You can use the software to set the custom functions and colors. It only has 4 lighting effects: static color, Rainbow wave, color shift, and color pulse. You don't have to do every thing only through function keys on the keyboard. You cannot change the color of individual keys. I bought this keyboard for work and editing. Honestly I'm really digging the typing experience so far even though it is a membrane keyboard. To me it feels like the old stock ps2 plug dell keyboards, which is not a bad thing. Those keyboards were tanks and the the typing experience was very solid on those as well. Media keys and windows key lockout function is awesome. In the software you can set the lock out function to not only lock out the windows key but also the alt+F4, alt+tab, shift+tab key strokes. The wrist rest is much better than this reviewer gives it credit for. I can understand where he is coming from since he probably uses $100+ mech keyboards every day but this rubberize wrist rest is a life saver even though it's not as luxurious as higher priced keyboards. For a $50 membrane keyboard you can do MUCH worse. The value here is out standing.
Actually it does interface with corsair's software. I had one a bit ago and I was able to change the rgb lighting and add macros through Corsair Utility Egnine.
If you are here for the review on K55. This is an old video and K55 actually use icue app so it is much easier to customise the RGB and gives you the full range colours (16.8m). Also the sounds from this isn’t really what you hear in this review (sounds more like a loud mechanical version), they are way more quieter. Bought this for 29 euro, which is really a good price for what you get.
Imo k55 is the best budget gaming keyboard below $50 so far in terms of quality and functionality. Great review! I admire your work. Keep this up and youll reach 10k in no time!
Neo X105 That statement is not true, there are great keyboards such as the Tecware Phantom, which comes with programmable lighting through software and mechanical outemo switches, and many many more budget mechanical keyboards.
thanks for this review, it was awesome bro! Even though this keyboard is a downgrade from my K65 (k65 was awesome till i broke it) its definitely the nicest 50$ keyboard ever. no joke. i got this keyboard preemptively just today for the sole purpose of the impending Destiny 2 release cus my stock one wasnt gonna cut it lol! thanks again for the awesome review! happy gaming! i subscribed!
I recently returned this K55 which is full of glitch and got the Thermaltake Multi Light (tri light version) Commander k /m combo. It uses real switches. You can even replace caps for caps that a real Cherry MX would use. It's a steal, only 40 bucks! Can't recommend it enough!
Been looking at keyboards and wanted a gaming keyboard that I wouldn't have to pay too much for... leaning towards this one, mostly for the dedicated multimedia buttons. Think I'll pick one up tomorrow.
There are now functions in the Corsair Utility Engine..so RGB and key setting etc can be done in program or hot keys set up..I passed on buying a Corsair K68 as it only is red and I dont care to have a red keyboard. the K68 was 88 bucks and had cherry red keys but they are louder then these and i dont think i would care to spend more money changing them right now. when i have money for that I will get a better gaming keyboard and this one is quiet and you can feel the clicks, like the cherry keys. It is a great value and perfect starter keyboard for a gamer at the price. I am not a new gamer but i am a gamer on a budget and it works great for me. Only thing i would like that it doesnt have is the A,W,S,D keys are not different color then the rest and you all part of same color zone as there are only 3 differnt color zones to program. i will buy some cheap key caps later at less then 8 bucks so i can make them gray or white so i see them on a glance or out of corn of my eye to make sure i am on right keys when fast gaming.
Ive been pleased with mine... and I came from a Razer Blackwidow Chroma that blew up and I just wasnt spending 200+ on a keyboard again... saw the k55 and never looked back

Just bought this to replace my old Sidewinder X4. Sadly Corsair don't have the box cutout so you can try the keys out before purchase, so I wasn't to know it would be like typing on toast. Rubbish keyboard, with each key having the travel length of mechanical, hitting the membrane just means there's no crispness to it. Even my old X4 has more bounce to the keys returning. Colours, media controls and macros are great, but if a keyboard fails to offer a decent typing experience, what's the point? Typing this on the X4 and it's way better, even for it's age.
What is the downside of having a plastic keyboard body as opposed to an aluminum body? Can you really tell a difference? I mostly keep my keyboard on one spot.
It's not mechanical? That's surprising. I bought one yesterday cus it felt similar if not the same as I previously owned a Saitek Cyborg keyboard which afaik is a mechanical. Have to say it is a nice keyboard though my only real gripe is only 6 programable keys, my cyborg has 12. Also my cyborg had chrome covered keys for the WASD, spacebar, arrow keys etc and you could light up those keys in a different colour. Considering that the cyborg is now cheaper, if you can get your hands on one since it's no longer in manufacturer, it was a really nice keyboard but all in all I do like this one.
