Every now and then we get a person who rises from making sense. Mick Lynch - I salute you. I have yet to see a media rep succeed in a gotcha with him. The man is a walking example of the combination of preparation, knowledge and accumin. He walks rings around media hacks and politicians who stylise as experts. He is everything they are not. Mick is the real deal. I stand with all who currently fight the fat cat oppressors. I remember British Rail. The way NHS is currently being prepared for sacrifice may be a decent comparison. Those in the know - know exactly why things are the way they are and have already done their hedging. Stop the dividends and start investing. Stop the subsidies for investors and make an effort to preside over a viable business. Stop rewarding the execs, chancers and overseas owners. Pay people in a fair way. Don't demonise those who stand up for what is right. Protesting is our right! Remember- rail employees don't see a penny from the never-ending rises in train fares. Everyone knows where the money goes and it's not coming back our way as it stands.....ever!
That is such a great way to look at it: the man is sooo good at this and he does it without wasting a word. Kids should study this as the best example of how to organise your thinking and speak clearly.
This is why they try to demonise him, as he actually knows his job, and he wants to protect his members and staff from the corrupt bureaucratic system, that the past governments and civil service push, to which 99% of them have no clue to what they are doing.
@Carl Collins He isn't a baron you numpty. Barons are unelected, and Mick Lynch was elected by the members who fund him, and vote on his salary. Milk Lynch is, as usual, brilliant. However, this is the rare occassion where I will note a 'fair play' to the presenter who allowed him to speak, and not cut across him in order to hear themselves spout drivel. It's such a regular thing for presenters to constantly interrupt, even on.the BBC now, that I found it literally remarkable..
I love your generosity of spirit but I think it's nearer the truth to say that these two tried their best gotchas and had no option but to remain silent as Mick calmly and factually ripped them up in front of them.
@@Humanimal47 I understand what you're saying. However, challenging and questioning (including gotchas) are part and parcel of the interrogation of a point of view. What compounds that media style is when there is the additional layer of constant haranging by the interviewer to the extent that the interviewee cannot fully respond. This was even attempted at one point. However, when Mick told the guy, "You have to let me answer", the guy actually did. This is quite rare.

When the government come out and say they recruited an extra x amount of nurses or x amount of police nobody is asking the cost. But when it comes to _other_ public services then suddenly the cost crap comes up. If I am going to pay taxes, then I am going to want something other than overpaid politicians in return and since I don't have the option of not paying the politicians then I want public services. The more public services they cut then the more share of my taxes goes straight to the politicians and I am not happy about more and more of my taxes going straight to politicians wages and expenses. Maybe some people are fine with that, but I am not.
Who is this presenter, looks like there's nothing behind the eyes. How can people actually watch this and other channels and not realise they are full of corporate shills
I’m 67 and retired. I commuted by train from Oxford to London from my 20’s. The railways across the UK have steadily become worse and inflation-bustingly more expensive each year. One almost needed a new mortgage for the season ticket, and services seemed to reduce and delays get longer. That £16 billion per year is, for a large part, going on shareholder dividends and director bonuses.
British Rail was the 2nd most efficient railway in Europe before privatisation, that's why so many countries and companies wanted a piece of it. A pay rise would be funded through the companies profits so the money is already there.
I remember British Rail as pretty cheap and certainly not any less reliable than what we have today. Now trains are just ridiculously expensive. Bring back BR!

I understand the continual underfunding of the train system. I laugh now but one day, whilst in the raf in the 80’s, I had to travel from the midlands to Inverness and then on to Elgin. I got on a train from Birmingham, hoping it was taking me to Inverness because the platform notifications weren’t working. Then the lights failed on the train and we had to travel all the way up in the dark. I was in a train that had those separate compartments for about 8 people at the time. I did get there though.
I worked for Network rail from 2000 - 2008. Starting fro the bottom I worked my way up to site and machine safety controlled. Working on through private contractors like Bridgen, Coyle rail and several others. We would make good money, some made really really good money. 250 pounds a shift on the weekend. During Christmas period I was paid 750 - 900 pounds per day! Machine drivers could easily make double that or more, per day! The money being thrown around by these private companies was then of course passed on to the public, pushing prices higher and higher. While the levels of bureaucracy, paperwork and honestly lack of any real work being done were the end result. In the beginning on a weekend when we would shut down a line to do works we would stop our machines working by line of sight as a train entered the worksite on a parallel line, so the delay was minimal. By the end the electronic system had the machines stand down for several minutes, long before the train was anywhere near. And then only once we were given the go ahead by the system could we begin again. In the end we would work for a portion of the day. A job costing the tax payers millions, just for a couple days, without getting your moneys worth. The whole things turned into a joke, really. You see the knock on effect now, less work, higher costs. You pay.
The Government holds the purse-strings through subsidies. The reason wages were good until 2008 was the economy was booming in that time and the Government could pay those subsidies. When the markets crashed in 2008, wage freezes went into effect across the Western economies, followed by swingeing spending cuts and 14 years of austerity.

Stop the subsidies for investors and make an effort to preside over a viable business. Stop rewarding the execs, chancers and overseas owners. Pay people in a fair way. The same way they finance all public services. You notice that when people are screaming that there are not enough police nobody is asking about the cost.

Totally agree with you !
I have to agree with Mick Lynch.
