Lynch and co would not be able to bully their way to grossly inflated pay which either taxpayers or passengers have to pay for. When the unions ruled Britain between 1945 and 1979 we had the slowest growth in the western world, close to the highest inflation, and in every cycle unemployment and inflation were higher at the peak than in the one before, except that inflation in 79 didn't quite reach the 75 peak of 26%. That had to change.

Honestly I'm not sure who Labour think they're helping by not trying to radically change the economy. Bad business owners will never vote Labour and workers will only vote Labour if they do something that actually helps them in ways that matter. I'm not sure that a change to sick pay does that for most people in ways that matters.
Because change requires money, which we are rather short on at the minute. We could borrow money, but no lender is going to give Britain money to help with radical changes in wealth distribution. You need to walk before you can run. At the next election, change should be expected and demanded, but for this term, undoing 14 years of austerity and all the other bs the tories pulled is more than enough. As the son of 2 small business people I grew up believing the unions were bad. In the 70’s they did prevent a lot of investment in this country (but were these potential investors just looking to shaft the British worker?). Now after 25 years in the NHS we can’t recruit any staff other than from poorer overseas countries. This shows that nobody in this country wants to do this work for the pay offered. This man is the modern face of unionism and he is spot on in everything he says.

It's counterproductive to place individuals in situations destined to fail, leading to commission-based sanctions reminiscent of past policies.
