The story behind the murder song.
Aurora wrote this song after reading about a "murder" in the newspaper near her homeland. A man killed his wife/girlfriend out of love. She was seriously ill and suffered more every day. He released her from suffering.
The song is sung from the perspective of the woman's ghost. Maybe he killed her with her consent (I hope so) or he made the decision on his own.
You will only find this explanation of this song in one interview with her (unfortunately I don't have a link to the interview and I can't find it anymore; so a question of belief). It's not written anywhere else. And usually she doesn't explain her songs that specifically either, because she wants everyone to find their own story in them.
She usually only says to the song it is a true tragic love story that doesn't end well.
It should be said that this News was an inspiration for this song. That doesn't have to mean that the song itself is about it. But since it all fits together, I think so. Of course, it is written in such a way that many interpretations are possible. Just like Aurora actually always does.
To the countdown. Some people say the "killer" is counting down. On the contrary, the song is sung by the victim all the time. For me that means that she counts down herself and than her boyfriend pulls the trigger.
And she knows that he knows that he kills her for mercy. That means they both know. Sounds like an agreement.

She's a storyteller, dude. It's all about the lyrics and the emotional expression conveyed through the music and her own body. She's totally unique to say the least. You should react to some more of her to really get a better handle on her - don't worry, it's not all as dark as this song. Watching her live performances is best - that's where she really shines.

Yes she is also a dancer. Yes they were moths not butterflies. She likes moths because they are looked down upon even though they are as beautiful in their own way as butterflies. They come out at night and are associated with the dark but they are drawn to the light. Yes she is a very visual artist because she loves movement and when she performs she becomes the message and she needs to express it any way possible. Her main musical influences growing up were the songs her parents listen to, Enya, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Classical music and Norwegian folk music. She loves heavy metal music and rave dancing. She is very supportive of environmental causes, LBGTQ+ rights and human right in general. She also writes and paints. To say she is eclectic is a massive understatement!

I love this song and how she is "in" the song (it is most unique). Although it would be even better live version from Nobel Prize Concert (there is also Runaway from the same concert). But this music video is also great:). BTW: you would also see guy :).
I will gladly watch more Aurora reactions :) - she has many great songs but just put random 3 great ones ;):
    - Runaway (Nobel Prize Concert)
    - Lucky (Nidorasdomen)
    - All is Soft inside and Churchyard (KEXP)

Relax! This her only song with bugs on her 😀. And the only song that "she" is getting killed.
She is telling a very special story, and she "lives" it! She want you to hear AND feel it!

It is a bit depressing though... The people who watch her perform and find it confusing or inscrutable. Really strange to me because she's the most transparently, authentically human person I think I've ever seen.

Oh, yeah, this song is certainly slow and soothing, just as you say. In a jarring, unsettling and frightening kind of way.

Enjoyed your reaction, although I should point out that the song you picked to be the first AURORA song you reacted to is not in-and-of-itself fully representative of her overall repertoire, which is extensive and diverse. AURORA is quite a storyteller -- uses her voice as well as her movements and expressions to convey elements of the story, and this has evolved over the past 5 or 6 years -- she is now 24. I subscribed hoping to hear more from this artist. Please react to "Through the Eyes of a Child" at Nidarosdomen (or anything from that concert), or her environmental anthem "The Seed" (her video for that song is quite powerful).

Also, AURORA collects butterflies and especially moths -- her first album (where this song appears) has an overall theme of transformation -- e.g. cocoon / metamorphosis.

Great tip. Nidarosdomen "Through The Eyes Of A Child" is an excellent way to start off with Aurora. That very performance is also one of my personal favorites by her. I'll drop the linkfor it here : ua-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/v-deo.html

This song is all about the juxtaposition of the soothing voice and the disturbing lyrics. There's a flow. You have so many interruptions in this short song that the flow is completely gone and each of your pauses, in the middle of a lyric, also destroys the story. You're left with a voice and visual completely out of context, which is very little to react to. You didn't allow one chorus or verse to play through without an interruption. No wonder you're confused and had no emotional connection.
5:00 of talk during a music video that's only 3:35 long which is then followed by a recap? I was really hoping to like this channel but sorry, no like and no subscribed.
