This is a great video only detailed one i have seen ! I am trying to do this project it would be great if this video was also for sale as my old car (69 Camaro) means a lot to me (first car bought in 72 plus years owning it) I wouldn't mind purchasing this series at all thank you so much for doing this !!!
i need to do this on my 67 impala. i bought it with no top on it, so i have no references. it has a frame and all of my tack strips need replaced. what size and thickness does it take and is it a one size for the entire top?
I think there is 3 different sizes of tack strips used on most GM top frames. Look into kits from top rebuilding companies for your model and you should be able to find the size and lengths required.
Well Hello again! I have watch your videos which are a God sent and a plethora of information. I have a question I reinstalled the the back glass in my convertible because the installer forgot to install the well liner, so I installed it but I am not sure how to attach it to the rear seat panel. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks again for all your help, hope to hear from you soon. Thanks and God Bless!!
It goes over the rear seat metal panel with spray glue. I used 3M 90 and sprayed both the top edge and front edge of that back seat support as well as sprayed the inside of the well liner along the edge that will pass up and over the metal panel. I also used a screw with a large washer at the ends of that metal panel to keep it from pulling away on the ends.
Hello again. So I have a top kit like you show in the video, but like you stated does not have the welt for the front just the canvas, so my question is this... When I got to the upholstery shop what size core goes in that front welt. Please let me know and thanks... Awesome work Sir
I have used 3/8 and 1/2. I'm pretty sure half inch round is what came from the factory but I'm not positive and I'm not having any luck finding the facts.
Hello again, it's been a while since I have watch this, you did a great job with the info you gave. I have a question about the molding around the opening of the convertible top well. Hopefully you can help. I removed it from my car about years or so ago and my car now has a fresh paint job on it and I can't figure out how the clips and molding go back on. Any advise you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks and God Bless!!
Those trim parts are very difficult to get back on without chipping the paint. The clips press onto the pinch weld area of the back window well first. The trim then snaps over those clips. The more clips the better the trim holds on. Put both trim parts together in the center and work your way around both rounded corners. Be careful not to force the trim too much or you will chip the paint. If it looks like you may chip the paint, protect the paint with something like tape. I never did get my trim on perfectly and I have not seen a Camaro with perfect trim fitment either. Good luck!
@@riderescue Awesome! Thanks for the advise, my painter told me to use low tack tape on that area and to double it up so it's twice as thick. I think it would make me sick if I scratched it, so I will be very careful with it.... Thanks again and God Bless!
Great videos, thanks. Inspiring me to try my own top on a 68 Firebird. Having trouble finding parts. I need the front driver rail assembly. Can only find new OEM power top frames. Does the power top attach the same as the manual top frame to the body? I realize I will need the hydraulic parts too. Thanks
The power top frame, at the rear quarter area, is different than the manual top. Glad my videos inspire others to do it themselves and take pride in their car building skills.
Excellent teaching skills, I appreciate your videos, how do you attach the tack strips to the top frame, on my 65 gto it looks like they were stapled to the metal, Thanks.
The staples are difficult to replace so I glue and screw the track strips. It's a balance of small head screws so that they hold the strip but not get in the way of the other staples that are used to hold the top materials.
I have a ford escort sr3 sport. I wana make it convectable bt would love to have yo advise. For example ..the side of the door window..u cut tht ad hw to make hw do u fix tht..I stuck
I measure from the center of the chrome trim where the two trim pieces meet up to the center of the rear bow. I also measure both sides from the end of the pad down to make sure the rear bow is straight.
Yes, tops are very complicate and very time consuming. Many upholstery shops do tops and they are expensive but worth every penny. If someone has the time, patience and skill they may be able to do it themselves and save. It's not just the money, it's the pride of doing something yourself.
Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I purchased the kit, and all the other parts, from rickscamaros.com. The box the kit came in did not have the manufactures information so I don't know the make.
SORRY! I was out of town for the holidays. Thank you for all of the comments and for subscribing. I purchase all of my parts for this project from rickscamaros.com Good luck with your project!
That idea of turning your staple in the middle of the liner is awesome, I'll have to remember it,
It's those simple little tips that can help out. Glad to hear you noticed.
VERY HELPFUL thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching.
Thank you, got to love a guy that shows all the details and tricks !!
Glad my videos help. Thank you for watching and thanks for the comment.
Excellent Job with the information. I am an upholsterer looking to do convertible tops soon! But nice to know how to put it on!!!
Glad to help. Good luck with expanding your business.
I'm getting ready to do this job on my '65 Corvair. Seems like it's an extremely similar system; thanks so much for the detailed video!
Yep, all the GM tops are very similar. Take your time and you can do it as good as the pro's.
3rd time to watch. Starting tomorrow on 68 Buick GS. Great video.
Take your time and think it through. You can do it. Good Luck!
What size staples did you use to attach the well liner? Thank you for the details you provided as well as your thought process.
I use 3/8 staples for all areas except the top of the rear window, that bow I use 1/2.
I wish I had a guy in Milwaukee or even you can do my car. I got a four-door convertible Cadillac and I need some service to my top.
I forgot I’d like to thank you very much for this video

Sorry, not for sale but always free to watch on UA-cam. Good luck with your project.
Hey! Thanks for your response, I wasn't sure if it was a 1/2" or larger, so 3/8 to 1/2 should be good... Thanks again and God Bless!!
I hope it goes smoooth and wrinkle free.
thanks im getting ready to do 1975 grandville top

Great video but where did you start to measure the bow height from
I measure from the center of the chrome trim where the two trim pieces meet up to the center of the rear bow. I also measure both sides from the end of the pad down to make sure the rear bow is straight.
This is a great convertible top series can it be purchased ? most detailed one i have seen so far.
I have received great feedback for the Camaro top videos. Not sure about selling them or the potential value.
To me seem very complicated... upholstery shop do top installation?

What brand is the top and where did you purchase it from?
who is the manufacturer of the roof kit? you talk about how well made it is and it would be nice to get the same for my 69 firebird.

I saw in your thread the reply to my question.
Thank you fir sharing your experience, and time.
Where did you get the kit from?
Nice where are you located?
I work out of my garage in Salt Lake City, Utah. I only work on my own personal car collection and flip a car now and then for some quick car money.
OP
WHO MADE THE TOP KIT??????????????????????????????
ARE YOU JUST TRYING TO TOY WITH YOUR AUDIENCE????????????
WE WANT NAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
