  • Replacing convertible top cylinder on 1968 Firebird, not a difficult task and can be done at home relatively easy. Most cylinders especially original equipment ones are prone to leaking and require replacing and they can not be repaired. so do it yourself and most cylinders cost just around $100 and can be done in a couple hours with basic hand tools. We are replacing them on project LeBronze on this episode.

      1969 birds are my favorite too. I have owned all 4 generations over my life and still prefer first gens.

      I don’t normally accept defeat that easily. Unfortunately I needed more parts to finish,I guess that happens when working on a 50 year old car. Lol. Thanks

      Those pivot bolts could use a little grease at time of assembly. Guess you will need to work some oil in, maybe a spray.

    Love the videos, you are very good at showing the typical mechanic how to do things that may not have the experience with older cars. Keep up the great work and now I've got to get another convertible TA (have one already) and make a TA tribute like the Transmararado - Love that name lol

      Thanks. I been having fun doing the videos. like I have said building cars doing that for years. I wanted to add a new challenge add a camera, share my experience, and get me out of my comfort zone a little. Public speaking “yikes!” Doing better with it. The name Transmaroado is clever and fun and would love to have a twin for it. Keep
      Me posted on that build!

    Someone once called those imprints from washers (or whatever) "witness marks".....I thought it quite accurate.

    I used a hand brake bleeder to replace the fluid. Worked really well with literally no mess.

      Really I like the sound of that. Did you use it to hand pump it into the reservoir, or did you disconnect the line and pull fluid thru?

    FYI mine had a plastic 1/2" inch OD 3/8" ID bushing in the rod end for the 3/8" bolt that goes thur it (67 cutlass)

    Mmm, milatery spec hydraulic oil (MIL-H-5606) is red too, like ATF.

      @VinylVillageGarage  2 роки тому +1

      I think originally it might have used a vegetable oil. Everything I have learned for this system ATF is good.

      @@VinylVillageGarage I'm doing the same thing like you making my UA-cam videos on my cell phone but I don't know how to edit I'd add it the videos and it sucks doing parts by part how can I record the videos and edit them

      Are you using an iPhone? If so the iMovie app is free and most likely on your phone already. Now if it’s not an iPhone I am sure there is a movie app of some sort.
      Additionally I use my iPhone to record then iCloud to upload footage to my iPad then do the editing from it. Bigger screen for my fat fingers, easier to operate.

    Hi. I have a 67 camaro convertible that I need to replace the whole cowl/windshield assembly since it is badly rotted. Do you have a video showing this? Doesn't seem llike anyone ever replaces the whole thing just patches. I'm referring to the whole a pillar

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  2 місяці тому +1

      I have yet to replace the entire cowl on a convertible. As with any panel. Set the car body square to your work surface/floor. Take several measurements and leave panels in place when you can to inspect door gaps and so on. Because measurements alone won’t matter, it’s how it looks when done. You could even leave the top frame in place as a reference.

    Hello, the hoses that are below the engine, do they reach the bottom of the piston and the hoses above the engine reach the top?

      Sounds right, if it’s wrong it will still work but backwards. Down on the switch will be up then up will be down
