Hello and welcome to my channel. I'm a long time DIY guy and car nut. I'm a firm believer in the idea that if I need something done I'll try to do it myself before I hire it done. Some of this mindset comes from wanting to saving money, some from pride in doing it myself and some is just the lack of trust in someone not doing it correctly and over charging. I HATE people trying to take advantage of others. Knowledge is valuable.
With my channel I hope to share my many years of knowledge in building and repairing cars, trucks, boats, and small engines of all types. If you are wanting to learn to do a project yourself, learn how to make sure your not ripped off, or maybe you just enjoy watching others do interesting projects. I hope my videos will give my viewers a better understanding of what it takes to do many projects correctly, economically and safely.

I purchased a 1966 289 Ford small block engine that was built for a Mustang. The seller changed his mind and sold it with only 1500 miles on a fresh, high end, rebuild. He had the timing set wrong and he used really long spark plug wires. I will set the #1 piston position for the timing and cut each spark plug wire to fit nice and tidy.

Samsung Microwave Sparked, Popped and Stoped. Can I fix it?
Man thanks so much for making this video. I just bought a ‘21 Ram 1500 Lonestar and noticed it would make this noise every once in a while when at low speeds turning left. Very intermittent. I bought it from AutoNation and the truck has a 90 day warranty so they talked to me before I purchased and said they would fix it, but they had it up on the life and looked at several things but couldn’t figure it out. I’ll bet you this is the fix. I’ll take it up there and have this bulletin printed for them. Thanks!
For anyone reading this in the future, do NOT repair this like the poster. There’s a reason the wires melted and you need to figure put why. Most of the time samsung uses the wrong gauge for its application so it cannot handle the current draw. The other possibilities could be blown capacitor / bad magnetron / something feeding back or not insulated or otherwise broken. Repairing like this you’re inviting a house fire because there’s so much juice going through the components. Also you can discharge the cap by leaving a meter connected or a very very high resistance resistor
I totally agree with your comments. In this case the wire connector was too close to grounding and when the microwave got steam from cooking on the stove the moisture would cause arks at that connection. Once I wrapped that connector it stopped the arks and popping.
Hi, what top kit did you choose for your '69 Camaro? Where did you get your front seal that goes against the top edge of the windshield at 26:52 in your video? Thanks!
Good talking with you via emails. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Did we know where the top was purchased from?
www.rickscamaros.com/
Great job! I am very impressed on the level of detail and patience making sure the top fits correctly.
Thank you! It takes a lot of patience to get a convertible top perfect.
Hi, just curious when you installed your lithium batteries, did you also use a warming pad for the batteries? If so, what did you use? Really appreciate your videos!!
I do not use warming pads. I don't travel or store in cold areas. Thanks for your comment and views.
@ Thank you!
Now is a good time to check the vent window interface with the windshield and weather strip. I have seen Jeepsters with no rear bumper, flush bumper and one had a shortened splash pan. They can all look pretty good in my opinion. Removing the spare really cleans it up but loses a bit of character.
While you're at it, lose the off-the-shelf tail lights. I'll think of some more for you to do after I take a break. Where I worked we were fond of following Rule #1: Don't do anything right away.
Good point on door vent window fitment also check the defrost vent area inside the windshield frame. I look at the rear and think of the thinks I don't like and how to change it. I have looked at many photos of Jeepsters without the tire and I don't like them. I think the tire is part of the character and needs to stay but needs better fitment.
The tail lights do need to change. I see many photos of custom lights and I don't like any of them. I have a few ideas but they are lots of work. Yah, time for a break... hahaha.
Glad to see you back on the project.
Feels good to be working on it again. 😃
This video series is a God send! Thank you. A question. If you anticipate adjustment along the back edge of window piece, could you not use less staples to start off? If you are going to be pulling them all out anyways to make adjustments... or do you not get the correct effect when pulled tight if you do that?
I tired putting in fewer staples and I tore the top materials at several staples. Need lots of staples to hold it in place. Staple, test and pull, staple, test and pull, repeat till all good.
@@riderescue ok. I figured you would have thought of that ..... just no easy way around this one, I guess. Thanks again. Happy New Year to you, sir.
Question. The rear bow measurements you give in other videos. Is this standard across the board for all of them? My old top is in such poor condition that I don't think I would trust any measurements that I have for reference......
The bumpers go in easily if you use RuGlyde rubber lube. It lubricates well and then dries up and goes away. Also works well for the rear window front seal.
Overcharging is primarily a function of Volts, not Amps. To illustrate, imagine a cheap plastic RV faucet set fed by 1/2" PEX and 55PSI which is dripping very slowly is your battery. Increase pipe size to 2"(Amps) . Still a slow drip (self discharge) . Up the pressure to 220PSI (Volts) ... Bam ! Electrical devices are similar. Your car for instance will not care if the alternator is putting out 30A or 200A. Excess voltage however, from even the 30A alternator or a little 2A trickle charger, will fry the battery. The 30A alternator would just fry it faster.
Yes, you are correct. The pipe size and wire size is also a good comparison on Amp flow. I try to do a general overview of information without getting into it too much. Thanks again!
Thanks very much for the video. 👍👍As a self employed mobile RV tech, I can learn much from videos like yours since I am not in a dealership with advice from the mfr or other techs. What a pain some of these newer water centers are, and that valve price is outrageous. If mine, I'd be tempted to re-design and switch to all cheap and simple in/out brass body ball valves and eliminate all 3 ways. In my experience, even brass 3 ways can be problematic, and I eliminate them whenever a customer allows me the time to do so.
Oh yes. The system is horrible. No question that I will have more problems in the future and that will be the time I completely change the full set up.
For you and other Grand Design owners; There is something you should know about your waste plumbing. On many GD models, they actually do a *tight* (not long sweep) 180° turn on 3" pipe just as it hooks to waste tanks. For that reason, you may want to consider never allowing anyone to put TP down the toilet, and do a fresh water fill of black tank and dump occasionally to avoid clogging up at the 180. It's a very poor design. RV tech Rob
So glad you mentioned this. After the 3rd blockage I now add about 10 gallons of water in the black tank after dumping and sometimes fill the black tank with fresh water and drive a few miles for a good rinse. I also use some PineSol after each dump to soap up the inside to help prevent clogs. I have not had a blockage since. Thanks again for the comments.
RV tech of 25+ yrs here. At 2:00 you're 100% correct sir. Flex hose with SS pinch clamps is a mfr's cheap way out and borderline criminal. In years to come it's nothing but trouble. Great video BTW ! Air *and* RV antifreeze is way overkill...but better that than sorry. Also, I use 50 -60 PSI. Fear not. Your system should handle it fine.
I agree with air blow out only till the industry started going with on demand water heaters. I have heard about many water heater freeze damage due to water trap areas in the heater. Started recommending antifreeze ever since. Thanks for watching and comments.
Thanks for making the video. About to put these on my '23 ram and def going to use your tips.
Glad it helped.

Love the video! Lots of good information! Here's my video on how I built my frame and installed 4 link on my Model A Rat: ua-cam.com/video/YV6kjo9CIC4/v-deo.html
Did you add the gauge on your LP system?
Yes, I added a gauge to each tank.
I have almost no water pressure at any faucet inside whether I am on city water or in dry camping mode using the pump (actually the hot water was barely a trickle, now there is no hot water. I also have the FW tank filling on city water setting. The pressure is a little higher using the pump in dry camping mode. Winnebago worked with me over the phone to troubleshoot the problem and after several hours decided that it is my Nautilus system. You located the problem valve by sound. All mine turn perfectly and stop in the same place as always. No sounds being made (but I have poor hearing). How did you know which way to adjust your valve, that clockwise (CW) or counterclockwise (CCW). I also have the problem of not knowing which valve is the problem. I also have the 4 valve system. Do all the valves open / close the same direction (CW or CCW?) TIA!
Most likely it is the blue one. As you are finding out, you don't know what way it slipped. Start with the blue one and do the steps that I show in my video. It may take several tries to get it right. If that doesn't work I can only suggest taking it to someone that knows this system.
@@riderescue That is what I was about to do, assuming that the Blue did the same thing on your 5 valve system. I do not have the Black valve. Do you know if all the valves open/ close in the same direction? Thanks!
my 2021 limited has the same issue
The dealer has a simple software fix. Should be covered by warranty.
Good morning! I have a 48 Jeepster and I can’t figure out how the two pieces of wood go under the upholstery on the rear armrests. Thanks for your advice! Tom S.
WOW, THAT WAS A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE A LARGE HICKORY STUMP & AM GETTING IDEAS OF HOW TO GET RIDE OF IT, BUT I DON'T HAVE A CHAIN SAW, SO? THE TREE WAS JUST CUT A FEW DAYS AGO. Do take care. Fl. (WHAT PART OF THE COUNTRY ARE YOU IN?)
I'm in northern Utah. Hickory is a beast. There are lots of great videos to get ideas. Good luck.
That's not a Jeepster...
Hahaha, Sorry, the Jeepster has been moved to it's new home but is not set up to work on yet. I fired it up and it loudly screamed at me to get back to work!
Could you please show power cord? Trying to get one that fits
Good luck. I couldn't find the original cords so I converted to standard ones.
Turn the water off under the sink?
Thank you for explaining this wire loop. I was ready to run a whole new wire but now I want to troubleshoot more and see where they ran this wire on my trailer.
Great build. What are the differences of the colors on the bottom of the clear front panels that are taped on such as blue, green,or clear?
Grazie per questo video. I tuoi suggerimenti sarànno utili per sostituire le guarnizioni di tenuta del extendaoe del mio case 580f . Saluti dal Italia. Thanks for this video. Your suggestions will not be helpful in replacing the cilynder extendaoe seals on my 580f case. Greetings from Italy
I'm glad to hear that my video helped. Cheers!
Did you do a video of installing your inverter and trafer switch. Please let me know thanks Rob.it would be great if you did. Great videos .
Yes, I did do a video with the inverter and transfer switch. Here's a link ua-cam.com/video/9P97ANvovPI/v-deo.html
Where did you get that gas cap from. I would like to get the same one. Looks like it all worked out great job. Also where did you get that flexible fuel hose from. All your help would be great thankyou Rob. Great videos i enjoy watching all your hard work that you have done so far thankyou.
I got the gas cap from Speedway Motors. It is... RideTech 81000040 Billet Locking Gas Cap Kit, 62-67 Nova. I got the hose there to but I don't have the part description for that.
Your background sucks
Good video. Those little things bug me as well with the aesthetics but looks a lot better.
Great review, and thank you for providing a lot of good tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much! I am a member of the busted water heater club, no thanks to GD. But I was within my extended warranty so they covered it thankfully. I did it your way this year and I now have confidence that I will be OK in the spring.
Glad I could help!
I think you should have did a little research on the saw before you opened it up. You did not know what you were doing, nothing personal. Kind of watching the proverbial monkey with a football. Once you know what you are doing, you can take one of these apart in about ten minutes. The throttle linkkge is just an interference fit insde the case which you pop loose with a screwdriver. When disassembled, kit the carb, replace/clean the screen in the fuel inlet port, new fuel lines, and a felt/rag filter in the tank. Reassemble, set the coil gap, new o rings in the oiler and you should be good to go. There were a lot of things missed during disassembly and reassembly. When you had it apart, you should have taken the muffler off and had a look at the piston. It was probably okay as the saw seemed to have compression. Plus, it started. The rubber sleeve on the intake has to be properly inistalled for a good seal. It is unknown regarding the condition of the air filter. Don't throw old saws like this away. This one is better than the craftman electic one you showed, Where you screwed up is you did not take the saw very seriously. You have a hotrod in the background, you should know better. This little one cylinder motor deserves the same attention the motor in your hotrod does which you just took it apart and took it for granted. You did the samething a kid would do on a car and halfass takes his motor apart without really knowing what he was doing and nothing changes when he put it back together. The chainsaw was probably fine. The biggest problem with most chainsaws and there are millions of them out there. Most people who have them only use them seasonally. When they finish using them, they put them away with gas in the tank and let it sit and sit. The gas evaporates and leaves residue behind as it evaporates. Next time they want to use it, no start. The varnish residue has gummed everything up. Also, remember when kitting these little carbs, to clean them as the passages inside of them are tiny. You want to make sure that gas and air is properly flowing through the carb. Then, adjust the high/low screws accordingly.
I can’t believe how hard plastic rear windows are. Makes the glass ones look easy. Of course…those can break if there’s an issue, so…
Terrific video. The top quality itself is so important, and you show that.
Most helpful video i have ever seen amd i love how happy and smiling you are! My battery is still going dead and i hav3 a charger hooked up 25/7 and i have mine hooked up to my sisters house on a 30 amp to a 50 amp dog bone connected to a 50 amp in the basement
Thank you for the kind words. Be careful with overcharging your batteries. Keeping them hooked up and "charging" all the time will damage them. It is best to keep 12 volt batteries on a battery maintainer rather than a charger.
*good information... on a side note, this is why i think nautilus panels are the worst. the intent is to make things simple, everything is at 1 panel and you just flip some valves around. the reality is a couple simple bypass valves on the back of the water heater, and an antifreeze introduction hose at the water pump is still much easier. simple, standard panels are becoming a thing of the past, unfortunately. the additional amount of hoses and fittings required to plumb a complex panel like the nautilus system is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary. it also adds about 30 new spots for an RV to leak. just my thoughts, thanks for sharing the info on the manual.*
I totally agree, the system looks like a good idea to simplify it all but they totally missed the mark. I have had my trailer for two years and and I have have had way to many issues. I hate the panel and I am thinking of pulling it all out.
Does the antifreeze damage the water heater ? I have heard that the chemical could ?
Not all RV antifreezes are safe but most are. Here's what to look for. Propylene glycol: Non-toxic, non-flammable, and safe for RV plumbing and fresh water systems. It can also lubricate faucet and toilet seals.
No. You can ignore whoever told you standard pink RV antifreeze would damage your water heater. 25+ yr tech and authorized Suburban service center here.
U did a good job, but still prefer to pay an auto Glass to do it properly 😅
I agree. It was good to try it and show it can be done at home but I will not do it again.
19:29 Hi, I’ve watched your video a few times now, and I don’t see anything about the converter/ charger. How is the disabled when the inverter is in use. Jeff
Great question. The inverter prep loop (orange wire) is designed to bypass the AC and the converter / charger breakers in the breaker box.
I used to deliver campers and fifth wheels to dealerships from the manufacturers. It doesn’t really matter how nice or expensive one is, because they are thrown together so fast and sloppy that things like that unfortunately get overlooked at manufacturer. The running joke up around Elkhart and Goshen, Indiana, where most of those things are made is they are built by the finest meth heads in Elkhart County Indiana.
Yep but those meth heads sure work fast. LOL
Thanks so much for your video. I have a Reflection with a tankless water heater too. And I followed directions last year and had to replace my water heater in the spring. I was considering letting the dealer winterize as they said if the did and I had a problem they would replace my heater. Honestly, Grand Designs should be paying for the replacements. I followed their directions exactly. This is my 4th RV but 1st tankless water heater. And my very well be my last. I miss being able to use electric. I have friends that camp in higher elevations in the Rockies and say they have to use electric on their water heater. I'd hate not to be able to do that. I'll winterize myself like always but I have confidence that I shouldn't have a water heater problem next spring.
We camp in high elevations and have been fortunate to not have any issues with the heater. It is nice to have never ending hot water but we have to use way to much water to get hot when we want it. I don't like the tankless heater and I really miss having the option of electric.
Had the very same experience with Camping World. Warranty doesn't cover a damaged heater either. Ended up costing us $1000+ to replace.
I hate Camping World. Corporate great at it worst.
What hitch is this?
Curt E16
The photo of the trailer has cut away corners eliminating the need of a sliding hitch.
Brings up a great point, make sure the front corners of the trailer will clear the truck cab with short beds.
I would suspect that the pump drain unit on the bottom you removed near the end might have been leaking from the motor to pump connection (pump seal) as it should not have a dirty pool of stagnant water in the drip tray underneath the unit. Keep an eye on this area for any future leak problems.
First off, what model reflection is it? I noticed the difference in my 337RLS, had two, grey water T-pulls to drain while yours has 1. Also At the 10:33 mark, as you are draining the two low point hoses, I see water coming out dripping just forward of the axle. Where is that coming from as wasn't addressed in your vid. Do you put the plugs back into those low point hoses prior to starting the process once they are drained?
My model is a 226RK (26 foot, rear kitchen, 5th wheel). It has one 35 gallon fresh water tank, two 35 gray tanks and one 35 black tank. One gray tank tee handle is at the panel and the other handle is under the frame at the rear. I have a white tee handle between the axles and that is the fresh tank drain (that is the water you see dripping at the 10:33 mark). I do put the low point drain plugs back on once everything is drained.
