Watching perfect snatches on youtube IWF competitions make it look so incredible simple, but, as Sylvester Ogletree said below, it takes a lifetime to perfect. I'm 68 and have a really big handicap. I've only been in the sport for 2 years. Never lifted a pound before January 2019. I've managed a snatch PR of 43 kilos and a clean and jerk PR of 57. I've been in three competitions and my weights just keep going up in the total; 90 in the first, 99 in the second and 100 in the third.
It's amazing! Keep going strong!
Keep it up!!
What is your bodyweight
I'm in the 81 kilo class. I turned 69 one week ago, so when January 2022 rolls around, I'll be in the 70 to 74 age group!!
@@getdusty1 thats nice but I think you really focus on form. Cause 50 kg was my first snatch ever. Im 68 kg. You are probably strong enough
It takes 5 minutes to explain the lift, and a lifetime to actually practice proper technique
Yes!
took me a month to learn decent form
A lifetime
I agree it looks easy and makes me confident when he explains then you go try and it’s like why isn’t this easy haha
I totally agree with you. Cheers.
It’s one of the easiest lifts, but also the most technical lift.
Simple, but not easy to do
Easy but not easy!
Wrong wording. It's a simple exercise to explain but hard to do and the hardest to master.
Easy according to who haha it’s terrible!
it's not easy
You can't see it here, but it's kinda amazing that he is 157cm tall
the shorter, the better in weightlifting
lol what
@@syahrules lol no, there are weightclasses for a reason and the heavyweights at 2 meters lift the most
@@jambo5936 relative to their bodyweight. of course. but it's more fun to see them lift close to 3x bodyweight when theyre only 61kg
@@syahrules agreed Lu Xioajuns total in his weight class has been higher than dudes nearly 10kg heavier than him, impressive
snatches are so hard for me mentally! it feels so scary to get the bar over my head. this is really helpful, especially the bit about taking your time in the set up.
Weightlifting is one of my favorite sports, and your advices were simple, but most essential!
And thanks to remind me that 'Worth of Practice' !
I really enjoy working those snatches. Thanks for tips: where to put your fingers, good speed above the knees, push the bar hard
Another important point is to reach full extension in hips, knees, ankles commonly known as to triple extension to achieve full power
such a great tough workout like a combo deadlift, pull, press and squat in one exercise!
I'll definitely practice these techniques great video aswell.👍
This how to is way better and easier to follow compared to the other How to Videos.... TY! .... Ending was the best! ☺️👍
Great video thanks for your time and help 🏋️
I'm planing to incorporate this into my workout routine for speed in soccer. I was always somewhat worried about hurting my shoulders with this one because it looks like your extended arms go behind your head.
I tried doing this, but I always lose my balance when I try to squat after lifting the bar.
he is pushing his head through his arms to keep his back straight, the reason why you keep losing balance is probably because your not keeping the bar close to you as you bring it up. think of keeping the weight going in a straight line and "catching" it on the bottom. also think of it as one whole movement. something I would do before you do snatching is called, power snatching and that is basically just catching the weight and not squatting down after. in will teach you to keep the weight close to you.
hope this helps!
There are variations of them with dumbells.
What a technique 👏
Thanks I am from India it is a very amazing and helpful video for me
When i first tried it i hit my chin, then i came back to powerlifting now im going to try again hope i wont break my jaw
I did it without the hook grip with just the bar the first time I did it… that bar went flying… and I did not take the blame 😂😂
Never attempted it again lol
Competition is an opportunity to achieve. All fields are competitive. There will always be competition in all circumstances everywhere in every state.
It's mentioned in a book I'm read, had to look it up. Nice video, thank you 🧡
My hero
Amazing
Good form.
Nice weighlifting from Olympic Channel.
Slow Pull to mid thigh
jump down
catch and stand up
- snatch
Great video
That’s so cool!
Tku sir
Good video
at which lift parts does the bar touch the legs? only above the knees or already from the beginning ?
Thank you! Excellent videos
How do I keep my balance during my squat part? The bar keeps going forward when I squat
i have a hard time getting it in the correct position overhead squad. I dont have enough mobility in my back/shoulders. any tips?
Hi CJ do you have other videos on UA-cam for weight lifting thanks
Amazing vid kid..

For your lovely great tips thanks sir for 8 thanks once again🥰💐❤💗😍😇🤗🙏😀🙂😃👏👌👍👍🏻🙌🔥💪😊
Nice last name dude!
👍👍👍
I like his wrist bands
Make sure your shoulders are over or slightly in front of the bar. Also, your elbows should be straight or locked, and the bar should contact just above the pelvic bone when standing with the bar. Also the second pull you want to explode up with the bar. You're not smacking the bar off your body to push it out, but driving it up where you will pull and then push the bar as your drop below it. There is more too, such as making sure your weight is in the center of your feet (not on the balls or heel), back straight, but keep practicing and after six months to a year you can have a general idea of what it should feel like, then you can start to make real progress.
I have positive associations with the word “snatch”, especially when it comes to the hip thrust, so I think I’ll really love the lift as well. That said, I think that I’ll feel unusually experienced with the clean and jerk, when I get around to that.
"Watching perfect snatches on youtube...." strangely, I don't feel any stronger.
this comment is underrated lol
Bar during standing should align above shoulder?
Go team USA!
This is something i never do in a gym, but i always wanted to do this kinda movement..
You should definitely learn it. Olympic weightlifting is very fun. Never too late to give it a shot.
@@gjune36 that is not going to happen in my gym.. cause we can't slam barbels or dumbels, also the space of our gym isn't enough to do that movement..
@@diramotichannel7037 change gym?
@@alelollipop1903 a proper gym that provide weightlifting is quite far from where I live in and that gym is the only gym in town.
Been there before tho, and I wasn't allowed to pay for one day visit, i need to sign a contract for a year membership.. thanks for the advise anyway though..
Thorough explanation! I did not like the "music" in the background - it wasn't needed especially when Cummings was talking.
Who is this dude? He’s cool 😎
Laurel Hubbard has been looking for a real snatch for years
Question, I have small hands and can not wrap my hands around with the hook grip. What should i do?
Been trying this, but i never can get to do it correctly. I'm only using the bare bar, but i still can't get myself to do it. I don't know if it's my mind that is scared, but it's pretty futrating nonetheless.
Det satme cool
He has my same last name, that's cool!
Very helpful
Thanks
I’ve been watching all these videos on how did you snatch or a clean, but none of them have said how to prevent smashing your nuts with the bar during the hip extension. Any ideas?
Check out Zack Telander's channel, he has a video dedicated to this topic.
Tons of practice and muscle memory
stay over the bar. Your pulling your shoulders back on extension more than likely. Its either that or your throwing your hips into the bar instead of bringing the bar to you.
use some duct tape
Since my wife keeps my nuts in her purse, I don’t have this issue.
How many times do u need to train for weightlifing?
pull, jump, squat! he makes it look so easy
Snatch looks easy but need more balanced than Clean&Jerk for WeightLifting 🏋♂ ,Need Technical
That slant in the bar when it's over your head - seems you might have a curvature in your spine.
think he has a hip shift, look at his hips, leaning to the left I believe, could be due to a mobility issue but it's an easy fix !
how do i get into olympic weightlifting?
CJ from San Andreas
When they said learn how to master the snatch....weightlifting isnt what I thought i was gonna see xD
😂😂😂😂
Got em 😂😂😂
Please tell how to put it down. My gym won't allow me to throw.
Hey I know that guy he was at our meet today😂
This video is not available? Why?
he's so cute and adorable. I bet he's like a teddy bear in real life with all that beautiful energy
i have bad mobility. I can only the lift with a pvc pipe or a training bar 😅
[ROCK MUSIC]
🎉
Song?? @2.40
You’re a CrossFit member and in the Olympics ?
"for step 3, just squat under like this *proceeds to move at light speed*"
My hands are too small to do a hook grip
You forgot to say bump bar with stomach
0:07 Carl Johnson (CJ) lol
How is that funny?
Marshall Bowdrie is saying “lol” illegal now
@@Agent0154 just wanted to know what was funny
About the title...my search continues.
Just learning here, why do that particular exercise? It looks uncomfortable and unsafe with having the bar like that over your head and shoulders back
It’s used in the olympics and competitions. It actually is uncomfortable and unsafe if done incorrectly. It can become more safe if done correctly which takes a really long time to complete. I myself still can’t do a snatch.
The title is misleading. You can’t master the Snatch with a 3 minute tutorial. There is so much material not gone over that beginners would miss.
I typed in perfect snatch into google and i got wayyyy to many questionable videos come up.
The instructions were unclear my pitching velocity went up
“Pull--jump---squat”
if you have perfect pull technic the rest comes alone.

The guy said easiest
Dear you also didn't know about snach
If you cut out the music, the slow downs, and the repeat clips, this is about 30 seconds of "tips" Kind of a waste of time
terrible camera angles
he's cute
"It's one of the easiest lifts in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting." Bro, there's two lifts! Of course it's one of the easiest out of both of them.
Why do people trying to demonstrate a squat snatch oo a power snatch and then overhead squat it. If you catch it in power just stand up. You look ridiculous squatting after you've caught it.
dont arch back
dont swing bar back
pull, jump, squat
The labored guilty technologically smell because wash lilly raise below a certain plastic. scientific, six crush
I saw how to master the snatch and let me just say I came to the wrong video....
He could have at least removed his shirt
why are u filiming a guy that doesnt have any medals? You guys dhould be filming this with real snatch experts like andrei rybakov or lu xiaojun
A pity! So many talented athletes, with incredible movement standards and most importantly, come from countries that have Olympic Weightlifting rooted in their cultures to be participating in this project and the Olympic Channel calls an American. Unless the goal is the same... Politics!
its irresponsible to have an olympic event in the middle of a coronavirus pandemic
Ooh know 3 people
Most easiest but most technical? That makes no sense
