You do need JASO spec engine oil as you have a wet clutch
No wonder you've reached over 11k subs in a relatively short time... this is damn good filming and creative editing... love it. Interesting and compelling to watch, with a good choice of music that compliments the scene.
Thank you! It is definitely a work in progress that is very time consuming to get right, but I am pleased people are enjoying it. 😊
Really is a thoroughly entertaining series.
Amazed at all the WW2 tanks along the roads as monuments.
Postings like this will really expand your channel.
Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you 😊 Please feel free to share the channel with anyone you think may also enjoy it. 😊
Thank you Charlie. 👏👍✌️
Merci, je suis ravie que la série vous plaise. 😊
Beautiful video of the Normandy countryside and such an atmospheric section on Sword Beach! Really enjoying this series and looking forward to the next episode! 👏👏👏
Thank you and I'm glad you're enjoying the series. 😊
Hi Charley Dave-in-France here. Great video as always but I particularly like the way you interlaced the poppy fields with the b&w wartime pictures - very poignant.
Thank you, I wanted to be respectful as well as cinematic. It was very humbling.
Hey Charlie, what a great trip you're having😃. Lots to see and do.
Quite a hike to Mont St Michel but really worth it for the views, sea breeze and seagulls willing to share your lunch🤣
I always try to visit war memorials/ cemeteries and I always find it a very emotional experience. We should always remember the sacrifices made in the name of freedom by the brave men and women who fought so we can be free.!!
Can't wait for the next installment.
Stay safe and enjoy every minute 🏍️😊
Thank you Paul, I had such a fabulous time. 😊
I'd forgotten what it feels like to bimble around the French countryside in summer, and this brings it all back! Need to plan a trip!
Do it ☺️
And this Is How France is
Not Riots Everywhere that have
Been on the News
I have motorcycled all over France
Over the Years always found
The French Friendly ( can be a little
Abrupt). They Love La Moto
Charlie will Return and Plunge
Further South to the pyrenees..🏔⛰️
My late Father Landed on Sword
Beach in 1944 .
I feel really sad when you visit the beach? Thinking of all the brave young men who died defending our country! To today a spineless government letting all the criminals from around the world come across in dingys so sad
Let´s take back our own borders!
We´ll take care of it ourselves.

Nice video skills Charley, About the oil, please let your friends educate you on oil, for wet-clutch and dry clutch(cars), for a motorcycle with wet-clutch(Himalayan), you need a special motorcycle oil with additives, which they normally dont carry at service stations!!! The engine will be fine, but the clutch can become grabby over time?? Loking like a wet home trip!
I'm always open to education, I deemed in this case some oil was better than a dry and seized engine and take the risk of a slipping clutch til I get home. 😊
Too right Charlie. Any oil is true. However change it when you get back as sticky plates a pain
Most oils of the right viscosity are ok, but car oils tend to have additives which can make a wet clutch slip - your clutch runs in oil as it is a "wet" clutch whereas most ordinary cars have a dry clutch. The oil also acts as a coolant so you can hold your bike in gear with the clutch level pulled, a practise not recommended for 2 stroke engine bikes.. I very much doubt that a top up with car oil will do any harm to your bike or clutch. Probably the easiest place to find top up oil in small quantities is a supermarket.
I was thinking the same as I made that mistake years ago....
Use Semi-Synthetic, it won't eat as much oil, as if you use full synthetic.
By the way France has nothing on England. I found France lacking in trees and greenery, glad you taught me this thru you travels.
France varies, so far I've only been north, things start changing as I head south. 😊
Very fitting that a paramedic is looking after the 'blood' in her engine! Another fabulous video Charlie 🤗
Thank you John. 😊
I would use the beeline to navigate to various tracks in England on my 765 rs when doing trackdays. It’s perfect for popping on and off the handlebars quickly.
It was bugging me when the orchestra music play during the beach rocks scene... It come to me.. It's orchestra copy of rocky balboa theme.. 😊
Buy 'BIG' bottle....decant some into 'little' bottle...simples...🙂
Now why didn't I think of that!!!! 🤣
Charlie, Isn't France just great for bikes!! Empty, smooth roads with great visibility. You're very brave to do this alone (well nearly) lots of men wouldn't, but a lone female is very brave, I've followed your channel from the beginning, and your contents and filming have improved loads.
If you read the signs correctly, you'd have noticed that it actually Mont San MICHEL ie Michelle not Michael lol.
Thanks! 😃 France is amazing for roads. 😊
I’m curious how your oil is rated in Europe vs the U.S. The oil I use in my bike is the same as a lot of diesel oils and it works great for wet clutches, compared to gasoline vehicles with additives that will make a wet clutch slip.
I'll ask a grown up to educate me so I can pass it on. 😊
Enjoying your trip, I remember my first time, I was getting names wrong and parking a long way away and walking to places. I did chuckle when you called it Mont st (micheal) not michel. (Mee-shell).
Would love to know your route as I would have loved so inside info from people on places to see.
I try and include a pic of the route on most journeys. 😊
Great video Charlie, what is the red ribbon for, Ian from Bristol
That is to try and remind me the danger / traffic should be on my left!
I hope the oil you put in was compatable for motorcycle engines Charlie ? Oil for car engines has additives in that can cause motorcycle clutch plates to slip, car clutches run dry.
We the got it easy compared to the Americans on Omaha. But the sacrifice of the older generation is being forgotten. I wonder if the young ones have the guts. Sorry got on a rant, keep the wheels down.
Brilliant video Charlie and so well filmed and put together as usual. Thank you for taking us through Mont St Michael, an awesome place for sure. I’ve been to France many times but fortunately never come across those ‘hole in the ground’ toilets but knew they existed. It’s really cool that Jay has now joined you too. Really looking forward to the next instalment.
Thank you 😊
A another enjoyable vlog Charlie really enjoying this mini series ❤
Glad you enjoy it! 😊
Their zebra crossings work differently to ours. The pedestrians use them to cross the road the same as us, but for a different reason. The traffic only stops if someone is on it, but rarely otherwise. So why do they use them? If someone is crossing the road using one, and you hit them, then they will throw the book at you. So it's basically an official crossing point, unlike ours where you have to stop and allow someone to cross.
visited that yrs ago . I believe the same gadge knocked up Marazion near Penzance.
Brilliant series loving it. Just a note bike oil is different to car to do with the clutch.
I was just about to put that up as well, then read comments and found yours, let’s hope her clutch doesn’t start slipping.
👋 just found u nice trip I’ve Ben there I use to live in France so a lot of travel ride safe cars don’t care for bikes
Thank you for this splendid video of St MIckael Mont. You showed well the Middle Age impression we have when we climb the many steps of the village.
And you showed well the huge (pharaonic ?) works they have done for that the Mount become an island again.
By the way : what you called "french toilets" in France we call them... "turkich toilets"...🙂
Many thanks! 😊
Great trip Charlie, brings back memories of my trips in Europe on a suzuki GS750 back in the early nineties. I especially liked the sword beach piece interspersed with period photos and that poppy field. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it John.
Hi Charlie
My Dad fought at sword beach, excellent filming , with the war insert clips you had me in tears 😢. Unfortunately I lost my dad last year age 96. Thanks for the great content 😊
So sorry to hear of your loss. X
Enjoying your France trip, I've done this a few times from N Ireland, visited both WW1 and WW2 sites. You've been to some of the places I've been to, brought back memories, heres a short photo slideshow of one of my visits. ua-cam.com/video/wVW8arH31zA/v-deo.html
Thank you, I'll check that out. 😊
Good morning Charlie . Thanks for taking us along on your trip , Roger is such a reliable companion .
He truly is. 😊
a biker won the tour de france on a royal enfield. He identified as a cyclist.
Excellent stuff Charlie! I feel like I'm there. Some great filming especially at St Michael. Keep 'em coming. Ride safe.
Thanks, you too! 😊
The garage where you bought the oil broke my Visa card in 1986 on a tour through there. It was the only card I had then, thankfully NatWest sent me some money. In those days there was a superb camp site and cabins on the landward side of the Mont St Michel causeway.
Blimey that must have been awkward!
Really enjoying your adventure, Charlie! Props for riding a Himi! That was my first bike that I bought back in early '21. Great little workhorse for what it is. Yes, they burn oil so I started carrying a little extra on my trips. I visited Normandy back in 2019. What an amazing trip! Spent most of the time in the Omaha Beach and surrounding areas focused on the WWII sites and such. I would love to go back and do it on a motorcycle. Cheers!
I would definitely go back and do the other Normandy beaches. 😊
Really enjoying the videos of your trip to France.
How much roughly were you paying for campsites?
I just motorcycled from Oxford to Albania, and accommodation is so cheap in the balkan countries, so I didn't need a tent.
Safe travels 😊
Hi, glad you're enjoying the series. I was paying an average of 15-20 euros depending on the facilities. ,😊
Excellent filming Charlie. Liking the overlays at Sword beach.
Thank you 😊
I was in France Dec 2020/Jan 2021 and not much was open because of Covid, the villages were so quiet. It doesn’t look much different? Where is everyone? Freddie Dobbs mentioned the bike using oil too. Nice video and some lovely roads to explore. 👍
I was amazed how abandoned the villages seemed too! 😊
Bad news that French loos still are medieval.
Hi, I'm new subscriber, and enjoy your day and channel. Regards from Portugal. Take care and ride safe ✌️😎
Thank you and welcome to the channel. 😊
I’ve been to all the DDay beaches many times. Sword beach in particular. La breche is the place my father landed (Ted Pritchard 3 troop, no 3 commando) you can park almost on the beach. I was there on my motorbike, beginning of May. If you go again, look for the statue of piper Bill Millin exact spot no 3 commando came ashore.
I'll remember that for next time, I imagine I'll be back. 😊
Fabulous video Charlie, the furthest I manage these days is off the bike and into cafe/pub (Emphysema/Heart Disease. So it's great to see some of the places people like yourself visit as I can't manage them myself. Thank You XX
I'm glad you're enjoying the series Christopher. 😊
Don't put car engine oil in wet clutch motorcycle. It is not good for you clutch because is in the joint oil sump.
Amen, must be replace asap
Hi Charlie, beautiful thankyou. Haven’t ridden my bike since mid April due to arthritis flare that won’t go affecting my hands🤬🤬🤬🤬. Regarding your oil. I don’t know how much further you are going but a top up of car oil is ok but long distance check into a bike shop and have oil change. Because motorcycle engine and gearbox use same oil, any damage may affect both engine and gearbox together. The clutch won’t be kept as cool and May slip due to the anti friction additives in car oil. Depending on how many miles I’d get a bike shop quick change but if u only put a bit in I would just carry on. If clutch sticks or slips change asap. Its far better to hav3 any oil than none
A great series of your trip Charlie, very laid back and informative, thanks for sharing 😊, brilliant
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Up in Lochcarron, Johnny cash duo, 2 neet.
Left Bumble and Rebelene, back home in garage, as it’s been piss’in doon.
Trip looks good, stay safe.
Good trip! 😊
Smashing one Charlie particularly the photography in Mont St. Michel. Have you been to our one down here in Cornwall, Marazion near Penzance? Mind you £26 a ticket!
Hi! I haven't yet, but feel I should!
I am catching up the videos as I was on hollyday in Corsica (gorgeous island, motorcycle paradise) and so I just watched your tour of the Mont Saint-Michel, I visited it several times, first time when I was 15 with school, then afterwards I met a guy who had a farm in Pontorson (that's where the road to the Mont starts) and been there almost every year for 10 years, and the Mont Saint Michel always fascinated me, so much history, ans Saint-Michel is also the patron saint of the parachutists and I still wear his medal around my neck for over 45 years now. The whole area is very lovely, lots of things to see and do.
It is such a beautiful area to ride. 😊
Charlie your vids are fantastic, they are a lovely reminder of why we go back over there every couple of years ! You pretty much did our route in reverse re : oradour, wheels and waves and carcassonne ! We went clockwise south over the Millau viaduct and across the south of France to thw Pyrenees ! Just love being abroad, red wine and the wrong side of the road just go hand in hand 🤣 maybe catch you on the other side ! Stay safe and good trips.......🏍
Thank you Peter. I had such a lovely time. 😊
Hehe, We were there on bikes like 4 weeks ago...😁 Normandie and Mont Sant Michel - nice trip. Greets from Warsaw!
Hi , glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Hi Charlie, you are doing very well to sort things out as you go. Nice views to share with us.
I endorse the views made in other comments about the oil. Check the spec and suitability for bikes with wet clutches. I saw somewhere that the Himalayan is prone to using oil; just as well you have some on board at all times. If the container says Motorcycle Oil or has a picture of a bike it will probably be OK.
Thanks for the tips! 😊
Michel may be feminine in France. Love your solitary tour without buddies excellent! Advise that tent, do not use in windy conditions they are useless and flap about so at night sleeping may only be optional, I gave mine away after one season and now use a geodesic tent which packs smaller and wind is now not a problem. Good luck on your tours.
I'm giving it a full on test soon with the NC500. 😊
Great series. I think I visited France by motorcycle for the first time in 1979 and I forgot a long time ago how many times I’ve visited or passed through France (by motorcycle) since then. I’ve recently returned from my latest trip and now I’m getting ideas from you for my next. Normal way to carry a baguette on a bike. Keep up the great work. The boots must be more comfortable than mine! Alan.
Thanks Alan! Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Alan. The boots Charlie wears are Forma ADV, I have a pair too. As the sole is like a hiking boot & construction is for off road use they are good for walking by bike boot standards. Also no Sidi squeak !
great stuff, I keep saying to my self, I will visit one day to see sword beach were my dad landed on Dday, but I never seem to make the effort to go. at 69 now, I probably never will.
the "mont" realy is a fantastic monument/histarical building.
If you want to do it, make it happen. Life is too short. 😊
Forgot to add good choice of music....
Hiya Charlie another great video on all your adventures 👍👍 you've gone from strength to strength since day one
Thank you. 😊
Another excellent video Charlie makes me want to pack saddle bags and get going stay staff 🏍x
You should! 😊
Do you Know, that if you tied your Baguette from one wing mirror to t'other mirror. When you arrived at your Campsite its Protien content would have dramaticaly increased :D lol
🤣 🪰🪰🪰🪰🤣
@@restdayrider yum yum
San Meeshell!😂 spelling is wrong I know but trying to help you pronounce it😂👍
I realise now I had it incorrect!
I always carry a 500mil container of oil when doing a long ride and usually I am not the person who uses it. Your posts are getting better all the time
Thank you. 😊
Hi Charlie. This is Marcin and greetings from Poland. Nice to see your whole trip around France. Very inspiring. Well done! See you somewhere on the road. Maybe Spain? 😊
Hi Marcin! Great to hear from you, remind me of your Channel so I can follow. 😊
it's not a channel :) it's rather records from motorcycling trips. youtube.com/@marcinadv2360
Very nice video series Charlie - you are very compelling to watch! Keep it going! 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
I think if you are topping off the oil it's not a big deal. The only negative I have seen if you do a complete oil change do not use full synthetic, it may affect the wet clutch causing it to slip?
It was just a top up. 😊
Great trip looking forward to next episode, thank you gor making them.
Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
I’m planning on doing a trip like this with my son next year. Great information as he wants to visit the WW2 places and I want to visit the historical places also. Will add mount saint-Micheal and the camp site on my route list. Thanks for the content.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mont St Micheal is absolutely worth a visit.
@@restdayrider roll on next week's episode. 😁
Normandy was so cool, thanks for sharing it's such a great adventure 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Hi Charlie, a very interesting video , very small villages and lovely countryside apart from Mont Saint-Michal which was fascinating.
Thank you. 😊
Loving this. I did Normandy and Brittany in may but due to having long covid couldn't really manage to do the tour of mont st Michael. Had a great week though. Looks like you went on to orador sur glane which was on my radar but again didn't quite have the capacity to ride that far down in my time scale. I have to plan my riding hours carefully with this damned LC which ultimately means extending my trips as I can't bang out the miles like I used to. Hoping to have another trip in September. Meanwhile I can enjoy following your adventures👍
Sorry to hear you're still struggling, but I'm glad my trip is helping somewhat. 😊
Hi there again I love your base ball cap where did you get it from please 👍
L
Hi, this one's from Disney Florida. 😊
Great video. Thank you, Charlie. I am selling my bike now ,too old, Its Great to watch your adventures 🏍
Awe that's a shame, but I'm glad my Vlogs might help you keep the spirit of riding. 😊
Well done Charlie. Another interesting motovlog! On the oil front, ANY oil is better than no oil at all. Then being picky about exactly the "Grade" does have its place but you were close enough to no make a difference with the use you are putting Roger to! The "SKI RUN" Toilet section brought me back to the 1990s, at least the one you showed was clean! 😂😂.
Thank you 😊
Thank you 😊
Awesome bud cheers 👍🏻
Blimey Charlie you really are a good UA-camr. Great content, even better editing to keep the video compelling. This has been compulsive viewing as a few of us are going firm Fairford to Normandy in September. Quick question. How do you turn your GoPro on and off whilst riding?
Finally it’s been a pleasure seeing you on your journey. Not just as a novice biker to someone who happily goes off abroad but also as a cinematographer. The quality of your work is so good now. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you so much Steve, really nice of you to say so! Please do share the channel with anyone you think may enjoy it, it all helps the channel to grow. 😊 The go pro, well I just reach up and faff about finding the on off button, there must be an easier way I'm sure!
Feel better about myself now I know you faff about with the GoPro like I do. Have already shared the link to your channel to my biking mates. Keep posting Charlie!
I prefer to hear you or anyone humming or singing as opposed to the MTV music videos. I just hate those videos with no talking or natural sounds. I'm at 4 minutes and 16 seconds and waiting for another horrible music video. Not many want to make natural sounding adventure bike videos any more. Always wanted to go to Normandy and the prison camps. But too expensive to fly there from south florida. 🙄🙄 Why is it that everyone who has the 360 camera, they never set it up for the viewer to move and look at what they want to see? My friend does his that way and gives you control of the view to pull it around. I thought women did not need directions and never got lost like men??? 😁 Oil is oil when you are low. It won't hurt a thing. Thanks for the views and old pictures of Normandy. So terrible. Would have been a perfect video except for the parts with music. That is not reality. Music is not playing where ever you go or whatever you do. But the rest of it was enjoyable. Thinking about subscribing. Will have to look at more videos. I'm not a music person. Are you on opiod pain killers or just non prescription painkillers? I thought europe does not give out opioids. There famous painkiller is acetaminophen, tylenol. 🤣🤣 Thanks.
Regarding the 360, the amount of memory uploading a movable 360 video takes, along with the upload time and the quality just means it not practical for me. 😊
@@restdayrider Yes, my friend has gobs of memory and stuff. He uploads the largest file video that he can... whenever he does it. It is really cool you can just drag the screen around and look at what you want. You didn't answer my other "50" questions. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i cant believe your waring those big boots in that heat. try these. they have a heightened instep. daytona max sports gtx
I'll have a look. 😊
Hi Charlie, last campsite was a jem - should be used as a base camp and do radial tours out unladen returning each evening. Less stressful and you can carry pa
Very true John, it was lovely.
Wow, that looked amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventures 👍
Thanks for watching! 😊
Another fantastic video Charlie, a nice touch adding the old photos from the beach and showing the poppy fields! Mont St Michel is so beautiful👌Worth putting your joints through the pain barrier😉What a brilliant campsite👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Lovely set u tube videos u making, one bit advice give u for maps before u travel or on your rest after day ride have look on Google maps for your routes to beaches or attraction. I try to memorise my route and landmarks look out for such juncs. Still take My sat nav by memorising route it helps me get places I need.
Look forward more exciting videos to come.
Belgian rider u came across I think he rode with itchy boots, norally Dutch female biker on her travels.
The Polish chap Marcin? He didn't mention it! 😊
@@restdayrider probably getting my wires crossed i know think was before she rode into Georgia there was a european rider with her.
I've love of War sites brings alive to you truly went on visiting German sites brings it alive, Submarine (U-Boat) Pens at St Nazaire well worth a visit French submarine Espandon In Pens.
Enjoyed Video crossing part one never done dieppe crossing good see French staff anchoring bikes.
I will say one thing for the French they have some good camp sites . Topping up your engine with that oil won’t do it any harm . The reason the manufacturers tell you to use proper motorcycle oil ,is because it has additives for use on wet motorcycle clutches . as long as it’s a suitable grade for your engine & climate temperature it’s ok . That amount shouldn’t affect your clutch action . I have used car 10 / 40 multigrade on full oil changes when desperate in the past & never suffered any issues . Any oil is better than none . 👍
Thank you, that was my thinking too! 😊
Great video. Thanks for sharing this trip with us 😀
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
What happened to the meteor? Do you prefer the Himalayan now?
There will be a short snippet on this soon. 🙂
I salivated when I saw Pommeau (the best apéritif bar none) and Calvados on the the village store sign - how could you restrict yourself to Cidre Bouchée? Great episode otherwise🕊
Where you parked and met Marcin, if you had taken the road North off that very rbt - you would have been on the eastern side of Sword beach!.... You are able to drive down to Swrod later on and there are parking sections off the roads as well.......
Great enjoyable video Charlie, it's nice to see some of the french countryside...well done,
Thanks 👍
@@restdayrider I'm located in Australia and not likely to be able to visit your part of the world, so it's great to watch your vids....last video I asked about your pacsafe...I bought one as I can see a practical use of it...
Really enjoying this series on your trip to France.
Thanks 😊
Hello Charlie
Can you please recommend some first aid kits that come in a small bag so they would fit under the seat of my motorcycle ideally they would have something to put across the face for CPR and maybe a tourniquet etc 🤔
Basically, things to stop bleeding ( pressure and clean absorbent dressings) things to stick over places that have stopped bleeding ( more dressings and plasters) things to hold big dressings in place, ( bandages) things to hold broken arms ( a sling) stuff to remove things that shouldn't be there ( plastic tweezers) stuff to make things clean ( alcohol wipes / gel). On top of that the basic meds, pain killers, diarrhoea meds, any acids etc. 😊
When it comes to CPR, the compressions on the chest are more important than air going in, we teach a hands only approach to bystanders now, or NO mouth to mouth. Decent chest compressions will be perfect until a medical crew arrive.
@@restdayrider cheers Charlie.... I hate working 12 hour nights 😔
Great video Charlie well done ride save look forward to the next episode ❤
Thank you 😊
Brillient videos, go Roger, I have got to get some touring done in Europe
I highly recommend it. , 😁
I'm enjoying this trip more than itchy boots trips. France is lovely. Bike is lovely. I get that sense of freedom just watching.
Wow, high praise indeed. 😊

They really are to be fair. 😊
Hi there I’m enjoying your trip to France ,what is the red thing hanging from your near side mirror please 👍
It was to remind me that danger / traffic was on that side, I had a green one on the right side for the verge. 🙂
@restdayrider thanks so much for replying Charlie best wishes
Great filming and editing there Charlie, and to meet someone who hs ridden a himalayan in the himalayas pretty cool

Why is the bike using oil?, it shouldn't.
Not entirely sure, and it wasn't leaking.
