Just watching you manoeuvre the bike around by hand, I learnt a technique years ago. It's especially useful when reversing the bike. Lean the bike onto your hip and take the weight that way and walk it steering with the handle bars. You can even leave the side stand down for extra security. Forgive me if you know this it's harder to describe than do 😊

A few weeks ago I camped at a wild campsite on the top of the Isle of Portland... hairpin bends to get up there on my Himi Ruby ( but if the local bus could do it then so could I!). Lovely campsite at a horse stables and fantastic views out to sea.

Hey Charlie - like your new wheels a lot - be following to see how you get on together. For tank bags, have a look at the SW-Motech Pro range - they are fab, and the tank ring system makes it so easy to mount/remove - with the added benefit that the bag is sitting above the paintwork, so no more scratches.
Keep up the good work 👍 G

Have a look out for a local company offering PPF Wrap (paint protective film) they can cut and apply that to the tank to stop scratches. Also I’ve read that some owners on first service are having the throttle cable adjusted slightly to take some slack out that helps with the initial jerk on the throttle.

    • @restdayrider
      @restdayrider  5 місяців тому

I'll have a look! The throttle cable isn't slack so didn't need adjusting. 😊

I picked up my 450 MT yesterday from Think Bike Gear in Preston. All I can say is to me it's a beautiful machine to ride, I'm over the moon with it. Throttle can be a bit snatchy at low revs - hopefully that will be sorted with an 'over the air' software update soon.

Quick Gear Change is deffo showing the bike is a KTM venture, the KTM is well known for the quick change being smoother, its designed for quickness so everything is geared towards that, I even noticed you using the throttle blip while downshifting, which also makes the KTM gears smoother, you sure are learning quick.
I had a good look at your bike and noted it is very much looking and actually sounding KTM. I have the 1290 Super Adventure and it sounds very similar to Bella.
I have to comment on your riding though, the change in bike has put you up a fair few notches in your skills level, not that you wern't skilled before, the your confidence seems to be going through the roof now, I noted this in how you ride the KTM, oopps sorry I mean MT lol, But it has made a huge improvement through the way you handle her.
When I bought my KTM I was surprised, after years of having large cruisers and sports, I couldn't believe how light and agile the KTM was, so easy to throw about and to filter through traffic, even although the bike is not that light, but it does feel like it is due to its design. I bought my KTM 2020 and wasnt sure how long I would keep it, well I still got it, nothing beats it for riding in all terrain. You sure did but the correct bike and you will find her as your top choice for riding even over the RE..
    Loved your video.. Cheers

Thanks for posting! I did have to chuckle with your suggestion that a 100 + mile ride was a bimble. ( Channel Island resident here!) I did 68 miles in France the other day and it was an expedition! 🤣🤣. As others have mentioned, I move my bike about with it resting on my hip and I keep the side-stand down for a bit of extra safety. BTW I'm 1.80m and 92 kilos, so not a small person.

Loved the video, especially the “Lost Boys” reference. Also after you said Portland bill I have had that song from the kids show from the 80’s “Oh come with me to the rolling sea, when the weathers calm and still” stuck in my head 😂
The person on the Ninja 125 was like me today when I managed to get up to 70mph on my Monkey bike, I was tucked in, chin on the tank and it was slightly down hill, but it did it, 9bhp no problem.
Seeing how you felt on the sports bike confirmed what I thought after hearing about the new Kawasaki ZX4R. I was so excited as it was the closest thing to the ZXR400 I had when I was 25 and absolutely loved. However now at 52 when I sat on it and instantly felt oops I’ve old. 😂 I will stick with my nice comfy Z400.
I am so pleased you’re enjoying your new bike. Buying any bike is a bit of a risk because you’re never 100% certain it’s right for you, but as long as you are comfortable and the bike doesn’t feel to tall or too heavy, then the more you ride it the better it will feel.
I really hope you can keep Roger as well, just for the selfish reason that it helps me justify having three bikes to myself. 😂

Your reaction to the SS riding position was priceless! I sat here and laughed. You are spot on correct that everything about a “crotch rocket” is for the youngsters. I have never been a fan, but it is fun to watch the pros ride them on the track. Give me motorcycle with my feet under my knees (not my a$$) and a handgrip position that sits me upright, call me old (58) all you want, but at least I’ll be able to walk after a long ride. When I last took a bike in for a Suzuki service, that was in the early days of PCs and many garages were still using printed paper forms. On this occasion, they topped up the windshield washer fluid (on a bike?) and charged me for it !!
It was a Suzuki garage that sold both Bikes and Cars of said brand, and used separate sheets according to the vehicle, Car or bike, being serviced. That particular week the Bike forms had run out, so a car form was used. The halfwit who filled it out..., well I don't know what he was thinking about..., however, upon complaining, some days later, when I first noticed it, they gave me a coupon for £4 pound off my next purchase there, instead of a refund, as a new month had started and the bookkeeping from the previous had been closed.
Sorry... didn't mean to write a whole book for just 1 little incident, but I hope it made you, or any other reader of this, smile..., go on, make my days and say yes! Thanks for this good video, spoilt a little by the stupid 360, distorting the beautiful Wiltshire countryside! I hate them buggers. Stay safe, Steve.

Really interested to see how Bella shakes out over time Charlie!. Also interested to see what kind of fuel economy you get after she's properly broken in?.
I'm still procrastinating on what to swap my old & tired, but uber reliable honda 650 transalp for ?. I want something lighter, nimbler, far more economical and with ABS . I test road a new Himalayan and it was mostly all those things, but it felt quite top heavy and just didn't inspire me. Also don't think I want to go to a buzzy single from a smooth V twin.
Funny as looking in from the outside one would think us bikers are spoilt for choice?. In a way we are, but I haven't found my unicorn yet!!!. Your Bella is looking close though.

I must admit my days of my balls slamming into the tank days are well and truly over! give me Bella over the the over thing anyday.. 😃 On the subject of gearboxes my Moto Guzzi V7 is more happy with clutchless changes, throughout my biking days I have only used the clutch to pull away and into 2nd or 3rd at most, I'm now 63 stated my riding at the mear age of 16 (on private land with a Yamaha XS250) my father would not allow me to purchase a moped!!
