I always find it so interesting to hear what is brought up as a pop culture references in these videos. For example Mr. Potato Head. It of course is a pop culture reference that not everyone will know of but seems so second nature to me because I grew up with the Toy Story movies, I always had those movies around. I love that makes me think of different perspectives.
I always read the line "Do the words 'Billy Don't Be a Hero' mean nothing to you?" to mean that for Ross, the idea of asking a woman out is so terrifying it's like putting his life on the line.
I am enjoying your videos on both Friends and Gilmore Girls. Would love to see the US version of The Office covered at some point if you have the time and energy!
Love this series!! One thing, I always thought the "Bing! Cherry vanilla" part was referring to 'popping the cherry', meaning losing your virginity, so Joey was making a reference to... Young girls? 😅 not a joke that is rlly great but it fit Joey's character and made sense to me he'd have meant that!
Hm, good interpretation, that makes a lot of sense. Joey's describing a variety of ice cream flavours, seemingly as a metaphor for different types of women, a virgin being one of them. I agree about it not being a great joke in terms of being inappropriate and creepy but in order to somewhat pacify myself on that thought, I'd just say that not all virgins are young girls (minors? if that's what you/the writers meant). Also, at this point in the show, their characters were in their early twenties as well so not necessarily as bad as it seems, I guess.
I've never sat down to watch "Friends" before but I'll probably watch these to see if I know any of the references. Other shows I thought of with references to be explained: "South Park" (I know it's one of the shows still pushing out seasons like the Simpsons. meaning way too many references to go through per episode due to how many seasons there are but I never understood "I Love to Singa" in the Pilot.), "Frasier" (There's probably other references I'm missing but I'm mostly thinking of the first episode where Peri Gilpin's character Roz mentioned an old Hollywood actress named Lupe Velez that died of an overdose but Roz tells the urban legend version of her suicide which I had no idea about so not sure if it counts. Still I had never even heard of Lupe before I started watching "Frasier".)
