I lived as a teenager thru the sixties, and 1967 (this song and hundreds more) from groups no one ever herd of. You will never go wrong reacting to 1967 songs that charted!
I’m 75, I was 20 in 68, I lived in this period. We were wrong about some things like drugs. But we were right about love and peace. Today our country is about anything but.
Another great song with a similar message is Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells from about 1968. Definitely check that one out, Shawn.
I think this came out the year I was born 1967 I went back and looked at the music that was released that year what a great year for music. A timeless song that still sounds fresh today 57 years later,
Such beautiful song with a wonderful message of hope and a plea for brotherhood for all people and now if we only follow the sentiment of this song! This came out while I was in high school and have loved this song since then. This is another example of meaningful messages found in so many songs from the sixties and seventies.
In 1967 in Beatles were part of the first around the world satellite broadcast are they perform their song all you need is love, and others followed in the same kind of style.
The hippie groove of peace, love and brother/sisterhood seems to come in waves, and when it is needed, and it is needed now more than ever. So, thank you and patron for this anthem which, being emblematic of that time, resurfaces in soundtracks from that time and headspace. Everyone above a certain age knows it by heart. To hear more of Valenti's words, check out Quicksilver's "What About Me? He knocks it out of the park. Colin Young's songs "Songbird", "Daniel" and "Before You Came" are also all cool or moving.
This is one of the albums I discovered back in 1980 listening to K.M.E.L. 106 FM in the San Francisco bay area, when they played full albums on late Sunday nights. "DARKNESS DARKNESS" was another song of theirs that really grabbed me. "COME TOGETHER" got massive air play time. I was 9 when it came out and this kind of music really influenced my growth. I have listened to music every day for most of my life, including at work. It makes me what I am.
A very underrated band and now forgotten. They plugged into the spirit of the age and expressed an almost universal sentiment. The people of the world if left alone would find a way to sort things out despite their differences. No on wants war except the greed and power crazed politicians. Even my father, a rock solid conservative New England Yankee who listened only to classical music liked this song
Now imagine what it's like listening to this 50 years later when you're old and gray. The kids of today deserve what the kids of the 60's and 70's had. The politicians are always doing their thing, but we had it *good*
This song, along with a few others. is more or less an anthem for my generation. It expresses the gist of our message and the cultural changes we were bringing into the world which, even today, are being felt. The seeds we planted in the '60s and '70s are coming into fruition now. Even though things seem a mess right now - we've got to get this negativity up and into view so we can recognize it, clean it up and move on into a better world. I have seen this country and the world go through incredible changes in my lifetime. I'm 77 and this song still rings so true.
Even though released in ‘67 it took 2 more re-releases for this peace song of the era to hit it big. I remember at the age of 9 listening to this song on an FM radio station in NYC and was amazed with the power of its message!❤☮️👍🏻
Another one of the great 60's bands. This song "Get Together" was their biggest hit in 1967. They are considered a "one hit wonder" but they had some other songs such as "Darkness, Darkness", "Sugar Babe", "Grizzly Bear" etc.
I new the lead guitar playerJerry Corbitt quite well when he was living in lake Elizabeth ca...Great great musician great guy spent some time with Charlie Daniels touring..Jerry passed 2014 of lung cancer in Tx a great song during a rough time in the country with Vietnam the song became an anthem for the era great reaction keep spreading the music around Godbless 🎉
Saw those guys on my 21st birthday at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. Many years later when I had a piano moving company, I became friends with the keyboard player (Banana) when I moved his pianos.
I've said it before that you do reactions to some songs that no one else does and they are actually great songs. Please keep them coming because if they don't get listened to they will fade away and people need to hear these classics with messages that live forever. Rock on brother.
I have always love this song and Jesse Colin Young. You can't change the world but you can change the way you view the world, how you allow it to effect you and how you react to it. There is an up side and a down side to everything and while it is important to be aware of the down side, it is most important to concentrate on the upside and continue on with your focus, to achieve your goal in your own way no matter how anyone else feels about it. "This is where I am going if you don't want to come along, then please get out of my way." While becoming a victim is not our fault, remaining a victim always is. Victim mentality is a complete road block on our life path. Thank you for your reaction to this great song.
Not for nothing. I can play this on my acoustic. When people cared about other people. You are someone that cares. It's obvious. I was in 3rg grade when this came out. Sang it in our church choir. Thank you!✌️
This song makes my cry. What have we truly learned in the last 60 years as a human species? Other than more ways to mistreat and kill one another? I'd really like to know. Is it all in vain? It's sad.
Hi Rodney! Please DON’T give up hope! There is SO many good people in this world! Try to stay positive! I don’t want to preach, so I will just say to keep positive! Peace and Blessings to you and yours from Australia.
Big Soul Shaws, there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple effect that spreads out to another. Your Reaction Channel is a great example. You've Changed people's thoughts and brought new ideas about caring and kindness to thousands of subscribers. You can see it in the comments on your music and the e-mails you received from your extended musical family. Keep up the excellent work, Sshawn - we appreciate it.
Shawn, you get it, Bro. I can tell by the way you speak about this music. You would have fit right in back in the 60s. I know, I was there. Keep doing what you're doing.! ☺✌❤, PJ
A great 60’s song! This and “San Francisco” seem to be the most timeless of the peace/love/hippie era. My grade school class of 1973 sang this song at our graduation. It is forever embedded in my old brain as a beautiful life memory. Keep up the good work, my friend! Love your insight. This now my GO TO reaction site. Cheers! 😊🎶❤
I come here first every day. Love your channel and your viewers comments ❤. I was 13 when this song came out and it had a great message for that time and all time
Check out, " The Wave Speech," Hunter S. Thompson, explaining the Hippie movement, San Francisco, in a few paragraphs with this song in the background, from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Johnny Depp playing Thompson.
Having songs like this in my childhood (I was 5 when this came out) played a big part in my great love for folk and rock music that has lasted all my days thus far. Another great song with a great message is ‘Love is the Answer’ by England Dan and John Ford Coley. Gorgeous harmony in that one.
Thank you for being who you are. This was the ideal of the late sixties and early seventies. Peace, love, and understanding. This is what being a hippie back then meant to all of us. We were met with derision and, as occurred at Kent State and other places, violence from the authorities. More recently the hippie movement of the sixties has been blamed for a lot of the ills of the world, as if peaceful protest wasn't really peaceful. You see it in the MAGA world when they condemn the Black Lives Matter organization as being destructive to the cities where they protested, forcing them to take up arms and break up the protests. In truth BLM was an entirely peaceful organization met with nothing but violence from conservative groups. It's been disheartening trying to maintain the attitude of pacifism for the last 60 years. The music remains, though, and remains a wonderful memory of the hope and optimism of a generation.
jesse colin young - real name perry miller- is still with us at 82 years old. one of the best voices to ever exist. he stopped performing music in 2012 due to lyme disease. but he started up again in 2016 with son tristan and released a new album in 2019. one of the YOUNGBLOODS best songs is called 'darkness darkness' and never got am radio airplay but fm stations brought it into the light and fans ate it up at the time. if you are interested here is a link : ua-cam.com/video/-ge1VLj2Vf0/v-deo.html
A song to represent the "vibe" of the 1960's ~ 🥰 FYI Jessie Colin Young was the leader of this band. This vibe continued well into the 70's ~ even the commercials got into the vibe ~ here's a famous one from Coke ~ ua-cam.com/video/C2406n8_rUw/v-deo.htmlsi=r7omJvr3SdJdXIet
@louisdellavalle2159 Nothing, it's just the human species being human. There's always going to be good and evil, you just need to hope good always prevails.
I was a freshman in high school when this came out. It’s not easy being positive these days but I actually believe (maybe naively) that love and justice will ultimately prevail.
One of my favorite songs and a great reaction from you. Please check out The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin. Album version please. Thank you for your consideration. Love your channel.
When positive messages in pop music were the rule rather than the exception. Miss those days.
One of the best peace and love songs of the 60s along with He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother
Jessie Colin Young had the voice of an Angel. Great old 60s song.
I lived as a teenager thru the sixties, and 1967 (this song and hundreds more) from groups no one ever herd of. You will never go wrong reacting to 1967 songs that charted!
And 1968 and especially 1969, but also 1970 through 1972 as well -- if you were making music, you could hardly do wrong.
The best version.
One of the most beautiful songs of all time.
One of my all time favorite songs
I’m 75, I was 20 in 68, I lived in this period. We were wrong about some things like drugs. But we were right about love and peace. Today our country is about anything but.
The Young Bloods - "Darkness Darkness"
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The guitar tones in this song are hypnotic!!
Another great song with a similar message is Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells from about 1968. Definitely check that one out, Shawn.
Yes!!! 100% agree!
Yes...absolutely 👍
One of the songs that was part of the sound track of my Senior year in high school.
I think this came out the year I was born 1967 I went back and looked at the music that was released that year what a great year for music. A timeless song that still sounds fresh today 57 years later,
Love the feel and message of this song, great reaction as usual 💜
Another great reaction to another great song! 👍✌

One of the best songs of the 60’s. You don’t hear songs like this anymore.
This song makes me feel calmer and want to go to sleep ❤ or meditate with headphones

This was the sound of my generation....wouldn't trade that for any other time.
Welcome 2024 hippie! 😊
You are my favourite reactor. Keep up the good work!
I saw the public service commercial before I heard it on the radio. It had childlike drawings displayed through. Mesmerizing.
This is one of the albums I discovered back in 1980 listening to K.M.E.L. 106 FM in the San Francisco bay area, when they played full albums on late Sunday nights. Great song truly a great song. Another one from a similar vein would be Cat Stevens with where will the children play?

I'm 60 years old, and I can remember during the Vietnam war era singing this song in church. I remember a nun with a guitar leading the song.
Timeless song. A lot of us tried to live up to these ideals, then we grew up.
Even though released in ‘67 it took 2 more re-releases for this peace song of the era to hit it big. I remember at the age of 9 listening to this song on an FM radio station in NYC and was amazed with the power of its message!❤☮️👍🏻
Growing up in the 60s, we really in our hearts believed in messages like this. I look at America now and just shake my head.
Another one of the great 60's bands. This song "Get Together" was their biggest hit in 1967. They are considered a "one hit wonder" but they had some other songs such as "Darkness, Darkness", "Sugar Babe", "Grizzly Bear" etc.
I love "Darkness, Darkness",.
This is so indicative of the great music of that time..... so glad it was mine when growing up!!
My favorite one hit wonder band
I new the lead guitar playerJerry Corbitt quite well when he was living in lake Elizabeth ca...Great great musician great guy spent some time with Charlie Daniels touring..Jerry passed 2014 of lung cancer in Tx a great song during a rough time in the country with Vietnam the song became an anthem for the era great reaction keep spreading the music around Godbless 🎉
This was what we sang as a morning prayer my freshman year at the all girls Catholic high school I went to in 1970! ☮
Music had so much hope around this time ! Miss that ❤ makes me happy to see you appreciate our music of yesteryear 🙏🏻❤️✌🏻☮️

Used in Folk Masses in the late 60's and early 70's.
Awesome choice! Beautiful song! :-)
You need to check out ''Darkness; Darkness'''. Thanks for bring this memory back. Also hear Jessie Collin Young solo career-especially Ridgetop.😊

I'd really like to know.
Is it all in vain?
It's sad.
Unfortunately seems that the message fell on deaf ears despite all of us having the 'key to unlock' love for our fellow mankind.
There will never be a shortage of evil, or good, for that matter. The Yin and Yang of humanity are constantly on the turn.
Hi Rodney! Please DON’T give up hope! There is SO many good people in this world! Try to stay positive! I don’t want to preach, so I will just say to keep positive! Peace and Blessings to you and yours from Australia.

I sang this song with my band back in the late 60s. One of my favorites. Thank you!
Thank you Thank you love this song. Danced around listening to this song as a teen. Enjoy that the younger set is finding the joy of these songs.

Friendship Train by Gladys Knight and The Pips studio 1969. Also a message song but a much different approach. Hit it!
The '67 album "Groovin" by the Young Rascals is chock full of high quality tunes.
I think you’ll really like Sunlight by them beautiful song

Glad you played this- was going to suggest it myself.

Similar songs worth hearing: "We Can Be Together" - Jefferson Airplane, "Peace Will Come" - Melanie
I saw them in 71. Share this song with girls.
He Ain't Heavy, is also a great song!
Great Review and commentary !!!❤❤❤

Such nostalgic music. Another thank you for covering songs of my youth.
Still love it.
The Other Young bloods is Darkness, Darkness. Dark, foreboding rocker
Why can't we all just get along?
❤❤❤
We used to drive by their house. Their name was on a little globe post light. My old stompn' grounds.😊🌴
Another song in this spirit is Family of Man by Three Dog Night 💖
This was a refection of he times back then when the hippie movement as happenning. Music was about love, peace and change.

Beautiful song ❤ Played a lot, but I guess people forgot 😢

Please, react to Spanky & Our Gang - "I Would Like To Know You". A lightweight but solid piece from this era, with great orchestral arrangements.
This came out in 67, I was 17, next Month I'll be 74. I hate to be a pessimist but nothing has changed...
You’re not being a pessimist. I’ll be 66 next month. Peace and love, what the hell happened

The Quicksilver version is really good too, but a bit different
Try Beatles song Helter Skelter
My generation lived by this song, now many of them support criminals for high office! 😪
Hey Shawn, how about 1967 The rolling stones ten thousand light years from home. I'd have to say it's their most psychedelic song ever. Peace ✌️
