Jack Flash Too many songs are ruined by political use. Maybe if it was a battle of the bands instead of a battle of the checkbooks it would get better participation.
Vinz I remember Battle of the Bands. Just Band After band great dancing time great socializing time oh, it was the best. I forgot about battles of the Bands, thanks for the memory.
Same here, Roe! Except I graduated hs in 1974. But this song really seemed to sum up the 60s vibe. Wish more people today could tune into this wavelength, so to speak. I love that this young man is seeking it out.
Thats really big. I have been listening to and loving this song for over 50 years and I was watching a reaction video with the lyrics and I could not figure out how I missed that, all of the years. I love it.
Another song I would really like to see someone react to is "Sky Pilot" by the Animals. The long version, since it has the most profound message in the 2nd act.
I have to say that I never cared for this song. I don't know why. The lyrics are great, the beat is consistent and the instrumentation is good. Maybe it's Pops Chambers' voice, not a bad voice, it just rubs me the wrong way or something. Let me be clear, this is just my opinion and I do not suggest, in any way, that it is shared by anyone else.
A song to transcend generations. The Flower children 🌹 from the Hippie age, peaceful protesters & sit in demonstrations against the Vietnam War. Us kids were scared, with the draft in place many guys I knew were at risk to be sent after we graduated when all we wanted & prayed for was peace ☮️ ✌️not senseless fighting. Hell, they didn’t refer to Vietnam as a war, it was a “conflict”. There were none of those guys that didn’t come back changed in some way. I’m not meaning to be a “Debbie downer” it’s just even though I love these songs they do take me back in time.
As someone who grew up in the 60's you got the analysis exactly right. This was one of the seminal anthems of that era and it remains a classic to this day. Thanks for showcasing this masterpiece. Your reaction is nicely done!
Perhaps it's time to change our national anthem. Trade in "and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air" for " everybody get together, try to love one another right now."
This song is playing during my favorite scene from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas when Hunter S. Thompson is remembering the rise and fall of the peace movement in the 60's and 70's. It is both beautiful and hauntingly sad. What could have been.
A great 60's anthem when the Vietnam War and Civil rights were the focus of mass demonstrations similar to what we have today. This song brings back many memories along with great vocals and instrumental backup. Everybody get together ❤ and love one another right now.
Yes, similar but I see more hate today, perpetuated by many factors...internet, propaganda presented as news, leadership vastly different from the 60’s, more isolated culture. Very sad. This song reminded me of how we had hope and positivity. Peace & love ✌🏻
Or "Reach Out of the Darkness" by Friend and Lover. Or "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells. Both songs for peace. Though CBP not a one-hit wonder, since they had so many hits.
One of best songs to kick back and take in after a hard day.If everyone could stop, listen and take heed to the message this song is sending. It's not really that hard people....✌
Jesse Collin Young has such a beautiful voice and this was a 60’s Anthem for a lot of young people back then. I saw him in 1974 when he played on his own. I didn’t realize until recently that he sang this song. I had known the Youngbloods but didn’t connect him to them. Love this song.
Common people now smile on your brother, everybody get together try to love one another right now. I have always found this song and that line soooo uplifting. Always gave me hope for humanity. Peace people and try to love one another xx
Hi from the UK, this is as relevant today as it was all those years ago , when we listened to this a lot , great one hit wonder really love this 😊😊😊😊😊.
Fun Fact: Get Together or Let's Get Together has been covered over 16 times by people like David Crosby, Jefferson Airplane, H. P. Lovecraft, The Dave Clark Five and The Carpenters.
I couldn’t possibly put in words how great this song is. It’s perfect. The guitar (that solo!) the words..’when the One that left us here comes for us a last’. Wow...🎵
Oh my, this was one of the Flower Child Anthems! Peace and love and groovy things! It always makes me smile. There was a lot of innocence in the 60's, despite all the troubles.
As a man who grew up with this music, and has watched your channel, for a while, I really appreciate the range of tunes you take into consideration. I also love your facial expressions, and positivity. Keep on trucking, my friend.
I remember when this song came out, yes I am old LOL, and it is on my play list and I listen to it several times a week while I'm drawing. A truly beautiful song with a message that is more relevant than ever. Unfortunately, I have a terrible feeling we are going to experience a lot of sorrow before we all get together. And no it's not because of immigrants or gay people or food stamps, it's because of greed.
I saw these dudes live at cafe le hibou on sussex drive in Ottawa, Canada back in the kate 1960,s.....The Youngbloods played thus song Get Together and it blew mevaway...Awesome. Band and Thank You Brother for bringing back those memories and justifying thus song. Peace and. Love
The Youngbloods featured the vocals of Jesse Colin Young, who went on to a huge solo career. Two other great Youngbloods songs are Darkness Darkness and Sunlight. Much in the same vein as Get Together, Jesse Colin Young's song The Peace Song is absolutely amazing, Jesse on acoustic guitar with minimal back up.
I loved the cool vibe sound of this song when I was a kid, but I was too young to grasp what the lyrics said. I remember hearing it again a few years later when I was in college, and that's when I finally realized how truly powerful the song was. The late 60s had a lot of amazing philosophical songs that still ring true to this day.
This is one of my very favorite songs. I'm so glad you did a reaction to it. Those of us who grew up during this time were filled with songs with messages like this one. It certainly reflects the sentiments of Dr. King, and those striving for peace during the Vietnam war. How quickly these important concepts can be forgotten! We have to keep teaching the next generation.
The lyrics and the guys voice really make this song a true masterpiece. Thanks for doing this song. I'm sure others have requested it, but "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield from that time period is another great one.
Love this awesome & meaningful song. Learned 2 play it on acoustic guitar in the 70's. It still has great relevance 2day..moreso than ever now. 🙂🙂☮☮✌✌💕💕
It is a great song, I remember being a young kid (born in '58) when Vietnam was going big time, and my cousin was infantry over there. I would use my lawn mowing money to buy and send him Hot Rod magazines and he shared them with his buddies. This song was on the radio a lot. Really something to think how far we have come, but the fact that this song still carries so much meaning tells us we still have a long way to go.
Jesse Colin Young is the lead singer. He has a beautiful voice & went solo. Great music of his my husband & I used to listen to. Thank you so much for the memories! From the Great State of Oklahoma, USA.
The Youngbloods' "Darkness, Darkness" from 1970 only scraped the bottom of the Billboard Hot 100 chart (#86) but is one-of-a-kind song with a ferocious guitar break.
Jesse Colin Young sure had a great voice. Saw them at small nightclub in northern Cal when they were middle aged. They still sounded great and my buddy who grew up in Monterey and worked security at “Monterey Pops” was thrilled to the max. It was his last show, as he died not long after.
One of my favorite songs from back in the day. I remember specific times and places where I listened to it. It's like a time machine for me - so wonderful...
The drum beat in the verses of the song is the same one that Ringo Starr used on In My Life, Anna (Go To Him) and It's Only Love. Also, this song was recorded by several people before The Youngbloods, such as The Kingston Trio, David Crosby (on a demo he made before he joined The Byrds), We Five and Jefferson Airplane, but The Youngbloods' version was the hit version because they changed the chorus a bit to make it catchier.
This is one of the greatest songs that came out in the 60's! As Congressman John R. Lewis said on September 22, 2017, right after the Kennedy Center screening of the movie Selma: “If it hadn’t been for music, the Civil Rights Movement would’ve been like a bird without wings. Music; it brought us together. It created a sense of solidarity…We need music now more than ever before!...We need the arts!” I've been performing this song for years; it's one of my favorite covers to sing!
My absolute fave song of all time. This song is uplifting and inspiring. It references the KEY GOD gives us all at birth that can open every door on the journey of our lives. It's your choice which door to open. I love it and your react was awesome, J. This made my evening brighter to hear this again.
This song was the anthem of my life back in the Sixties, and it still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. We thought that Love could change the world, and yet here we still are . . .
"We are but a moment's sunlight fading in the grass" .....so good
One of the anthems of the 60’s.
It wasn't just unrest about war in the 60s but civil rights too.
Elegant Irony yeah. Got the feels for all of that, too ❤️
For What it's Worth by Buffalo Springfield (including a young Stephen Stills and Neil Young. A great 60s anthem!!
One of the first songs where the lyrics got to me was The Eve of Destruction, by Barry Maguire. Back in the same time period of For What It's Worth.
Another great song! So many !how lucky we were to have experience it first hand
in my head a lot lately.
We were singing this song in my high school in 1975!! Still relevant
You must just be a couple years younger than me. I graduated in 1972.

Same here, Roe! Except I graduated hs in 1974. But this song really seemed to sum up the 60s vibe.

Yes, it was so part of my high school years!! I graduated in 1975!!
"you hold the key to love and fear all in your trembling hands"
Alot of the music from this era had a peaceful, hopeful message about unity. Great choice...♡
💯
"When the one that left us here returns for us at last." Powerful lyrics, very relevant to today. ❤️❤️
❤
Thats really big. I have been listening to and loving this song for over 50 years and I was watching a reaction video with the lyrics and I could not figure out how I missed that, all of the years. I love it.
Keeping with the 60’s and this theme. Chambers Brothers “Time Has Come Today"
Great suggestion...play the extended version.
Another song I would really like to see someone react to is "Sky Pilot" by the Animals. The long version, since it has the most profound message in the 2nd act.

almost everyone was listening to the song of love during the 60's. To bad so many forgot the message.
Perhaps it's time to change our national anthem. Trade in "and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air" for " everybody get together, try to love one another right now."
We have learned nothing in 50+ years. :(

great song. hippy Vietnam era. try "Day By Day" from the movie Godspell 1973. There's video on youtube.
Seconding Day By Day and putting in a vote for Turn Turn Turn by the Byrds
