    There's something almost hypnotic about watching the routesetters climb it in almost perfect synchronisation at times with the calm music in the background.

    This is so cool and love Rotimi's whole attitude and vibe about exploring!! I was working the Saturday of the festival in Canary Wharf but my office window faced the back of the wall and I was gutted I couldn't watch - thanks for posting this Hannah, I feel like I got to come along in a way!

    Terrific video Hannah and all those involved. Pushing our limits and boundaries are part of the sport. Great job on getting outside of your comfort zone and doing this, not just being a journalist and telling the story, but actually doing the climb itself. Look forward to next years to see how much further you get up that wall.

    I really loved the editing right before you began climbing. The shots of the public transport with loud whirring and quick cuts quickly followed by the whistle and silence depicted how I feel before events that give me anxiety or adrenaline perfectly. Really put me in the moment!

    Well done. Climbing is such a huge mental game; if you ask me, you play it very well. You are fighting against your fears and conquering the next "field" step by step.

    Great video Hannah! I was standing just to the side on the barge and just couldn’t fathom climbing to that height. I’m nervous enough three and a half metres up a comp wall!

    If you ever end up around Charlotte, NC back in the USA, the Whitewater Center has a permanent DWS complex that’s open late Spring - early Fall. I would definitely recommend checking it out!

      Its not dirty although it is cold. Canary Wharf water is aquifer fed - not from the Thames. I do open water swimming there and you can see the bottom 8m below

    You probably know it and the issue been solved perhaps, but just FYI youtube had some major problems with the words free solo in any from, Magnus had some real problems after doing videos with Alex because how blacklisted it was.

    ok you should totally dws traverses in Malta. it’s like 1-2 meters over the water and can be 50-100 meters long. if you need a climbing holiday that’s the place to go

    The docu style videos are so good. A good insight in to the otherside of how the psyco bloc style comps run. For me, it would be a solid no in even pulling on to this thing!

    Seeing that one of the main ways down is jumping from the top, not for me lmao. Though I guess lowering with the ring I'd be fine with.

      Lowering from the ring I think was still a decent drop into the drink, but agreed, if you had to jump I’d be out (even if I COULD climb to the top 😂)

      I think it's to break up the water tension on the surface, to make things safer for fallers

      Hahaha I think it's so they can see where the surface of the water is. Otherwise with a slick surface it's difficult to judge distance to the water.
      It's done in competitive diving comps!

    I had never heard of this sort of climbing before, seems bonkers, but also really cool. I assume the guy with the squirtgun is there to break water tension when the climber falls?
    Also, when Hannah came out of the water it just struck me how much chalk was being dropped in the water with the climbers, that's kinda bonkers, chalk is cheap, but still a lot of chalk being flushed away xD

      It took them so so long to feel fully dry again but I don’t know if water has a bad impact on the build of the shoe itself!

      I think for a couple of reasons, to break the surface tension of the water and to give the falling climber a spot to aim for!

      I think it’s to do with breaking the surface tension / providing a spot to aim for landing!

      Thanks so much! The competition did have categories for men and women to compete and watching the women compete was SO incredibly cool.
      We climbed and filmed on the media day ahead of the competition - for sure more guys, but it was great to have Lainy (Lainy on the Rocks) crushing alongside me on the wall that day too ☺️.

      Couple or reasons I think - to break the surface tension of the water to reduce impact and also to provide a bit of a target for falling climbers haha!

      I heard platform divers saying it does not break surface tension but gives the surface texture so you don’t misjudge the distance. They also said underwater bubblers are used to break surface tension.

      I have seen free water solo comps where they actually break the water tension using big bubble blowers. Strangely they didn't use that technology here.

      The majority of our audience on UA-cam is from the US, so we typically use American-English, just like we use V grades. 🙂

    Whats with all the drama and making this a big thing? Its a bit of weekend fun, not an olympic final. Any competant climber shouod only worry about how sucky it is hitting water from a fall over 10 metres.

      Deep water solo is a form of free solo climbing.

I talked about Hannahs channel or youtube in general in my climbing comunity and most people who don‘t spent a ton of time on this plattform are subscribed to most of the climbing youtubers with the exception of Hannah because it’s mostly just talking in her videos and not climbing. It‘s just the truth.
