When we brought together Toby Segar from Storror, and legendary rock climber Johnny Dawes, they created a set of dynamic bouldering problems like we had never seen before.
As a team, Toby Segar and Johnny Dawes tackled five boulders, which gradually become harder and harder, to push their skill, technique and strength to the limit.

Johnny's mind truly needs to be studied lol. Every time Toby came off the wall, i was like surely Johnny doesn't have another tip, and he does and its more insane than the last
He appears to have a deep interest in sport psychology. I'm not sure he would describe it as such.

Johnny would swiftly get thrown into a smooth and high walled escape pit so he can banter with himself down there while the Storror team get some actual training done. Then install a fixed roof on the pit for good measure
OH, that is an AWESOME image, hell yes, the chaos energy those two would generate, the intense mixture of individualistic 'ways' bouncing off each other. Now THAT would be a "buddy movie" to beat all buddy movies. Callum and Johnny on the run together thru Brighton rooftopscapes that are somehow mixed with Peak District rock formations from some rule obsessed copper turned assassin.
"Two grannies on the train" is f***ing brilliant--a genuinely gorgeous description of a headspace for performance
this was my biggest takeaway from the video too. really thought provoking stuff out of this johnny fellow’s mind

love the fact that toby knew what johny was on about, alot of younger people might think he's just waffeling weird stuff, but he knows what goes into performing at the limit, what you need to do to dial it in. Absolute Legend.

Johnny has such a beautiful and unique way of visualising and manifesting his movement with sound and imagery and metaphor. It’s so inspiring to see such a wildly creative mind and artistic intuition put into a hyper-technical movement sport like climbing, even in the way he moves and experiments with movement is so spontaneous and free. An absolute gem of a guest, and it pairs so brilliantly with the ethos of parkour and Toby’s own approach to moving…thanks for making this happen!!!

@@Crazyoldman84 it makes all the sense, its just very abstract. that part if thinking is hugely important for certain performances and also only for certain people. its basically building a scaffolding out of associations to support the very technical and sober part of a sport. its very interesting if you just dont stonewall it, simply because its excentric/unorthodox. as someone who likes to push my performance to a very high standard i know exactly where he comes from. its fun to think like that too, goofing around in a productive way is very valueable, if you believe it or not.
wait the conversation about fear/commitment that lead to "two grannies on the train" was so inspiring... I loved the editing with Toby's attempts +their dynamic conversation. Really really good stuff!

We really enjoyed the playful movement, and it turned out as funny as we imagined, credit to Toby and Johnny who were meeting for the first time on the day.

As a certified Old Fart I can remember watching Stone Monkey on a dodgy VHS far too many times. There was an electronic version floating around, but for some reason the footage of the Quarryman didn't have Zappa as the music and it did my head in. Seeing Johnny still bouncing and smiling makes me happy. Thanks Hannah.

Probably lol. For you more than us. .
Johnny's advice can be fun, psychologically motivating and even insightful for some people, but yeah, in this case, Toby already has his own process, and he's one of the best at it, it's a very unique skill; very few people can do 100+ attempts on a move, and keep tuning in more and more into it, improving with each attempt. But Toby has that incredible ability. That's why, specially in parkour, he can pull off incredible chains of dynamic high power moves, where most other experienced / pro athletes would barely be able to pull one of the moves in isolation. So, for those that know about it, Johnny rambling on about that when that's literally Toby's superpower is kinda comical. Or people in the comments section thinking it was Johnny's advice what made the send possible.

He's such a guenuinelly interesting man. Him saying "I'm not climbing very well at the moment" and then watching him wonder up a V9 was icing on the cake

There are definitely various ways of describing the introspection of flow state. For me, just before I send it, my mind becomes blank and there's probably pre-emptively some adrenaline being released as I feel my focus increase rapidly. I just do it and succeed but have no idea how I did it. The mind is something.

Johnny seems like one of those guys who can explain something in the most ridiculous way, yet you understand exactly what he means. I wouldn't be surprised if he could do a 30 minute speech of just random noises, and everyone would walk away with a general understanding of what he was waffling about.
Toby is an incredible athlete but also he has such determination

It’s a lot of fun, and pretty tricky to get right. Route setters are artists, for sure. 🙌
Do it! You're probably not allowed to bolt holds into the wall at your gym, but maybe there's a kilter/moon/tension board? Or a spraywall? Or even just a part of the wall where there's a lot of problems, just mix and match the holds to make a boulder.

Toby might not be at his prime but he's definitely at his peak! IMHO he's the most well-rounder (parkour) athlete, he can just it all. His parkour looks so effortless the last few years. Dom is very explosive and just sends it, Joe is a daredevil and Benj is just so technical and precise. But wolverine here, he's got all that and more in his arsenal.

First climb has a be-tall middle section. Your main power is coming from your right(back) foot off of the horizontal blocz volume. Pretty inequitable.

hmm, less force on the jump, wait for knee to bend more and then with less power stand up, also foot position as far to left as possible to stand up and jump at a last second, thats what i saw i think :D
the angle is awkward if you go with full power you will just jump away from the wall :D
