She is also smaller and lighter. It's what makes climbing so cool: elite climbers can have different body compositions and styles. Amazing video! Thanks!
Yes but no. The grades are good, you just need to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses, plus most of the time routes have a mix of different holds. Not all crimps or all slopers y'know
She's an absolute beast so you never know but I think the hard part of burden isn't that the holds are small it's that generating is impossible.. I feel like she'd be better suited to Arrival of the Birds v17 which I'm pretty sure is more small edges, tension, slow movement but who knows maybe she'd crush both
long limbs are probably more often than not a total disadvantage, think levers, keeping tension in caves etc..! obviously the boulder she set suited her really well! but she obviously worked really hard for getting where she is, and we all can only have our one body, and what we do with it is up to us. some times it feels unfair, but it is what it is. you make it sound like an undeniable advantage on every boulder which it obviously is not lol
@@climbing_thomas my comment was more of a joke than not. But, yeah. Every single climb has advantages and disadvantages for all different kinds of body types. One type does not ever seem to have an ultimate advantage in every situation.
@@climbing_thomasthis is actually false. Long limbs are much more often an advantage-short levers mostly only play a role in underclings, and can be overcome with strength development much more easily than reach. Long limbs are actually better in caves so you’re not stretched out between feet allowing you to hold tension better.
Had to go back to the beginning of the. Video and watch again how chill Matilda made her boulder look. Really makes you appreciate the strength and skill. Would be great to see how she has been building power over the last year on her channel 😊😊
Curious how many rewatched Matilda's send her own boulder after seeing Emil and Vivi suffering on it. I definitely did and holy smokes did she make it looks easy.
Loved the video - Mathilda was super impressive. I do - as a non-climbing ignoramus - think her superpower on the crimp boulder is how flexible she is and how close she can get her centre of balance to the wall (as well as being a talented, strong badass, obvs) - the way she can transfer her bodyweight into those holds just looks so much more linear, relying on finger strength more than grip strength.
Love grizzly holds. We have the carbons. Spoke on the phone with one of their reps for probably 20minutes just talking about life, setting, climbing. They are very high quality holds. As a gym with limited money, we normally end up with cheaper holds that we can get more of. I think when we got the grizzly holds, and the owner saw what kinda of climbs they allowed us to set, his opinion on future orders changed. Hoping to get lucky with the drawing!
It's always a secret competition and somehow Mathilda always wins it anyway. But this was a great watch, so fun to see everyone work on their antistyle.
I'd like to see the three of them do a few tindeq pulls on progressively smaller edges, and have it graphed to their body weight. I bet Mathilda could do some world class pulls compared to her weight on the smaller edges.
Vivi felt too small for Emil's and Matilda's boulders, sadge. Emil how much do you lift on quad block wide pinch nowadays? Crazy what you can hold with your pincers!
oof yea now that I've finished the video it did really feel like Vivi was too small, especially on Matilda's boulder where moving dynamically just isn't feasible because of how small the holds are.
I wonder how many people around the world would be able to flash Mathilda's boulder. Feels like most people who would be confident enough on these crimps are have a smaller frame and would struggle a lot to keep their feet and tension.
There are definitely people that could do it, but Emil's skills pinching, compression, big moves etc. probably come more often in the same person than Mathilda's skillset, that was my first thought
love these kind of videos! Really shows how big the spectrum of climbing skills is! I did feel tho that the subtitles took away my attention from the climbing and made me feel like I was watching a low quality instagram reel.
Not a huge fan of the baked-in subtitles - I found them very distracting, particularly with the pop-in effect, and they seemed to appear and disappear relatively randomly imo. I do think offering subtitles is important, but if you already put in the effort to transcribe the video, I think it makes more sense to let the UA-cam player display the subtitles (also lets you choose if/how/where/how large/etc they should be, and I prefer the builtin font over all-caps for quick legibility) Otherwise great video, the last "three different climbing style" video with Pete and Matilda was also one of my favourites :)
Really highlights how height and span is such a major factor in climbing - regardless of how strong or flexible you are. The crimp climb couldn't even be tried properly without major assistance! A good route should test for strength + technique and NOT height, but even setters get this wrong all the time. But with more women in climbing, being relatively shorter, hopefully this will become better after a few years or so! I do wonder how everyone would have done with the same crimp climb, with everything set shorter instead. Could be an interesting video idea?
As a shoe nerd and new Drone 2.0 LV enjoyer myself, I'm curious why you switched to the Mad Rock Vilain for the heel hook on the crimp (when I saw this crimp, I immediately thought "oh, it's a gift for the Drone heel hehe") !
Disclaimer I don’t know much about bouldering but I feel like the girls set a bit further from their limit than emil does? I just thought it was interesting because them showcasing their boulders seemed sooo chill
It was great to see the challengers trying and failing, but I feel like after a couple of tries it would be nice to see again how the creator does it so it is familiar to us, inexperienced viewers

Haha if you would only win the holds for matildas boulder it wouldn’t be much to win 😂
" some things in climbing should be illegal. "
LOL.
Matilda is a beeeeeeeeeast! Seeing Emil struggle so much on that boulder while she made it look like nothing is honestly super impressive
Yeah I was genuinely baffled by how hard it felt. She's made of metal
She is also smaller and lighter. It's what makes climbing so cool: elite climbers can have different body compositions and styles. Amazing video! Thanks!
She is a beast, completely agree
Matilda is legitimately terrifyingly strong on crimps.
This video is a perfect representation of how climbing grades are super subjective.
Yes but no. The grades are good, you just need to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses, plus most of the time routes have a mix of different holds. Not all crimps or all slopers y'know
Matilda should try Burden of Dreams. She looks like someone who can actually send it.
YES
YES!
Yes !
I'd love to see her on it. The holds seem made for her but the dynamic movement may be harder for her
She's an absolute beast so you never know but I think the hard part of burden isn't that the holds are small it's that generating is impossible.. I feel like she'd be better suited to Arrival of the Birds v17 which I'm pretty sure is more small edges, tension, slow movement but who knows maybe she'd crush both
9:24 doing that statically is absolutely crazy
as usual with these, if you're flexible enough it looks wayyy easier, I love this type of climbs for this reason. what an alien on the crimps tho wtf
@@SwainixFPVthats true she used her flexibility to her advantage, but even if that is insane
Honestly, looks easier
Its incredibly unfair that Matilda was built as essentially 4 gigantic limbs lol.
Yeah, two arms with fingers of steel and then long af legs. Torso does not exist.
long limbs are probably more often than not a total disadvantage, think levers, keeping tension in caves etc..! obviously the boulder she set suited her really well! but she obviously worked really hard for getting where she is, and we all can only have our one body, and what we do with it is up to us. some times it feels unfair, but it is what it is. you make it sound like an undeniable advantage on every boulder which it obviously is not lol

This has become more or less a series and I‘m absolutely loving it
Same.

Vivi is absolutely jacked

Emil’s face watching Matilda do the first go on her boulder is hilarious. Almost disgusted watching her cruise through it
It's a mix between awe and ew. Mostly awe though
@@EmilAbrahamsson can't spell awe without ew
These hold are so pretty, I love the colour and shapes.
Vivi and Matilda are two of my sheroes; it's lovely seeing all of you together in a video.
Always in awe of how easy Matilda makes things look when she climbs!

14:34 "that was actually brrrutal to get the hip over" I love your swedish accents
Holly sh***! Matilda just BLEW MY MIND with that static climb… and in basically everything!! And Emil, you surprise me every time as well!!
It's always a secret competition and somehow Mathilda always wins it anyway. But this was a great watch, so fun to see everyone work on their antistyle.
20:56 HAH the mutual disgust/admiration towards Matilda's boulder.
matilda is so beautiful! and she climbs so gracefully!❤
I'm convinced Matilda could climb a wall in my local gym if it was only made with footholds
It's crazy how Matilda is so well rounded that she can do basically all of them 😆
Damn, Matilda has some crazy crimping power😮
Cool boulders and fun banter 😁
Yeees! That’s my favorite series! Hope you’ll do more of these. Maybe we will see Pete once again
I'd like to see the three of them do a few tindeq pulls on progressively smaller edges, and have it graphed to their body weight. I bet Mathilda could do some world class pulls compared to her weight on the smaller edges.
20:58 - when your strong friend says "just go up" and then flashes your project
Vivi felt too small for Emil's and Matilda's boulders, sadge. Emil how much do you lift on quad block wide pinch nowadays? Crazy what you can hold with your pincers!

This is such a fun concept, with great people!
Emil's face at 2:07 tells me everything I need to know about the problem😂
Matilda strikes again with her anti-holds! Fingers (and core) of steel 🦾
Yeah, totally, and how she delicately but indestructibly digs in with her feet for this tungsten tension
That dyno beta break by Matilda was SICK
Stockholm to Uusimaa doesnt look that far, surely Matilda with her crazy crimping ability fancies giving BoD a go..? ;)
18:18 bro science😂
Not really siencing is it? XD
I wonder how many people around the world would be able to flash Mathilda's boulder. Feels like most people who would be confident enough on these crimps are have a smaller frame and would struggle a lot to keep their feet and tension.
aidan roberts would probably make it look easy, but then again, aiden roberts left humanity behind long ago
Maybe someone like Chon Jongwon, about the same height and one of the strongest grips in comp climbing that I know of.
Would love to see Anna Hazelnutt on her boulders actually, now that you say that
@@balaenopteramusculus I think it certainly suits Anna's strengths, however Matilda has still climbed 9a.
There are definitely people that could do it, but Emil's skills pinching, compression, big moves etc. probably come more often in the same person than Mathilda's skillset, that was my first thought
It's a good thing you're friends. I would hate to see how you all would set for your enemies. Awesome to watch.
So satisfying to watch the different climbing styles, and the different struggles. Awesome video
love these kind of videos! Really shows how big the spectrum of climbing skills is! I did feel tho that the subtitles took away my attention from the climbing and made me feel like I was watching a low quality instagram reel.
“you want to paddle on the tiny crimps?” - “YES!!” 😫
So glad this video format has returned, amazing video! ⭐️
I'm sweating just watching them try Matilda's boulder...
That backtrack choice while Emil tries the first few burns on his boulder though😂😂 Great video - always enjoy an Emil / Matilda crossover!
the color grading and filming in general is amazing
SAVING THIS FOR MY DINNER VIDEO❤❤❤❤ CANT WAIT
You would love our Snowdon. Xx
20:56 was so funny to me for some reason LMAO
the "I can't believe this shit"-look they both have staring at the boulder 😅
Insane crimp climber Matilda.

Noted! Thanks for the feedback
I did not even notice them
Also a strong dislike for the pop-in subtitles. Very distracting (and I do normally watch with standard subtitles).
Matilda, Emil, Viv, awesome effort! Thanks for a great video, helps a lot!
Your collabs have the best vibes
Brings back old vibes🔥🔥
9:24 reminds me of the freerider boulder problem
Imagine sloper daddy looking you in the eyes and saying “your power has improved”, so jealous
Great setting with great holds! Love grizzly holds
Lesson of the day is Matilda is a beast!

5:55 grand river rocks
What an actual beast, this is so insane.
I feel so bad for Vivi having to jump on parts where you two can just reach with your enormous limbs
emil and vivi experiencing what every starter climber first feels when they put their hands on a crimp and cant rotate through it lol
Vivi's : 7B
Emil's : 7C/+
Matilda's : 8A
Sounds about right? @EmilAbrahamsson
Wouldn’t say it’s far off! Maybe Vivis and mine are slightly easier (since hers is more about coordination), but really nice guess
all of the 3 boulders look so cool... would love to try them... much love. say hi to the girls. best, s.
Matilda is strong AF, impressive
"It looks soooo hard!" .... matilda proceeds to make it look like a 6A boulder
@EmilAbrahamsson next video collab with Yves Gravelle??? This guy is a beast!!

This is such a good format and Matilda is scary
Aww man, I missed trying the right foot on the start hold when I was trying the crimpy problem
those holds are such a nice vibrant color
It’s amazing to think that i may be able to climb on these boulders
vivi at 20:17 is absolutely insane
Disclaimer I don’t know much about bouldering but I feel like the girls set a bit further from their limit than emil does? I just thought it was interesting because them showcasing their boulders seemed sooo chill
idk why Emil standing on the Not A Step part of the ladder worried me, like i didn't just watch him throw himself of the wall from that height
Early bird Emil video :0
God I wanna see Emil and Matilda try Burden
Never clicked on an emil video so fast before
I love tiny crimps and edges. It's a shame that most gyms around me set less and less problems like that:/
you better set those pinch holds on vertical positions, so that insane pinch grip strength is tested truly.
"The holds are actually pretty small." No shit!
this is a good video but i deffo think pete whittaker and his unique style was my favourite from the last video
matilda is insane
Matilda the goat!!!!!
Vivi's just too short for these boulders, its unfortunate.... 😭
Matilda has literal metal hooks for fingers 🪝
Matilda Supremacy
Day 480 (literally, I checked) of me saying that Matilda should check out BoD
Hey @EmilAbrahamsson ! What size shirt you wearing? I'm about the same size and want to buy one :D
Large! It's awesome
@@EmilAbrahamsson Thanks so much!
Matilda made her boulder look like a jug ladder 😭
I wanna enter the contest for the holds but I don’t know what ide do with them because I don’t have my own wall
Matilda must have double the arm and legspan I do. So unfair hehe
I probably have more armspan. It doesn't help at all!
What would you grade Matilda’s climb ?
Emil what’s going on with your right shoe?
im the 100th viewer :D. Lots of love from the Netherlands, Emil!

I mean “wouldn’t” she win setting 😁😁😁
