That graph at the end was the best part of this video!!!
I just picked up an ST last year and I took it straight to the racetrack right away. Coming from a Miata and SRT4 owner, it’s the best of both worlds ! Good power and handling is good enough to have fun with it. I recommend a good set of tires for any car.
Just got this car. So excited to get my hands on it.
I just got the awe exhaust he recommended it is siiiick highly recommend it
I got the Ford Performance Exhaust. Love it. But exhaust sound is personal taste haha.
Any update for the mods?
@@JohnWard1872 ST3 owner here. I did full bolt ons with TONS of reliability upgrades. Oil catch, oil cooler custom mounted, coil packs, spark plugs, ect. I did a little over a stage 2 tune with a hybrid turbo, not big turbo. Sitting at 335hp to 365hp depending on fuel and map. Been that way for 140k miles. Sitting at 240k miles bruh. So reliable it's laughable. I drive this thing like it's the Italian Job. Stock clutch. Honestly didn't feel need for stage 2 or 3 clutch I baby mine and double pump granny shift it. 0-60 5.3 second.
Dude me too! Got mine 2 days ago! I’m in love!! Already bought Amy first wave of parts too!
Sad about seeing the car go but exited on whats to come! Youve made great content on this st, not to mention all the great tips youve shared through your experience! Another thing to add to the list if you looking to keep the car long term is the oil catch cans, its amazing how much gunk it saves from going back into the motor! 👍🏼
I know it’s been 3 years since this vid, but just picked up my ST3 and absolutely love it! Love all your content here, keep up the fantastic stuff! 🤘
I'm right behind you bro! November is my Trade in Month finally and I'm gonna search for a nice Race Red ❤.
Getting one in 2 days!
hoping I get mine this summer😁
god bless i needed a video like this
FMIC, bushings and short sifter should definitely be the first mods. Only thing I would change
SHIFT ARM ... don't need the short shifter but yes, bushings, FMIC, and shift arm (JBR is best).
Posted a year ago. I picked up my 14 FoST more than a month ago and I just got my AP, an intake and a BOV. This guide helps. Also helps to be in a Facebook group with people willing to help and be decent. A lot of people running different mods and you can get an idea of what everyones opinion and experiences are
what is a good group? I'm located in LA
@@jokesNgiggles There should be a bunch of RST groups out there. You can join New England RST and see if anyone knows the group for CA, but you should be able to find it by a search (I would think, but we're talking about Facebook).
The chart had me busting up 😂
I live in phx AZ as well and recently got a Ford focus st definitely following!
thank you for constant uploads while we stuck inside lol
Glad you uploaded this video! I picked up a 2016 St about 3 weeks ago and I didnt even know where to start! Its already really fun, cant wait to start modding it. It was a huge step up from my previous car. (2002 4runner sr5)
Jacob King those 4runners are good stuff . I had a 04 sport before I got my st
I have an 03 4Runner and thinking about getting an st also !
i just picked up my 2016 st today! freakin love it stock, but these upgrades are definitely on the list now.
Yoo same I also have a 3rd gen just got my focus😅
You should do a video on the money spent on the mod upgrades so far.
I was curious to see if there was anything you recommended that I didn't do a year ago, and I'm happy to say that I'm on the right trajectory. The two things I'm still lacking are the downpipe and replacing my stock turbo with a bigger one. If I may add, I would recommend installing a front and a rear oil catch can. The research says that it will prolong the life of your engine. Good video.👍
You don't need a rear (crankcase) catch can.
PCV (front one) is definitely advised though as oil has a shit octane and blow by of it can cause knock along with gunking things up.
Use the money you'd spend on a crankcase catch can toward an ethanol tune.
You will absolutely love Magna Flow cat back
Getting this car in 3 days and I’m so hyped I have now a focus se and it isn’t fast but is so reliable I drive 4 hours every day and the car has never had a hick up and from my research neither will the st so I am very excited to get the st. Your videos are super helpful and can’t wait to see what stuff I can do with this car with your advice. Thanks love the vids
How did you end up liking your st? ST3 owner here, stage 2, full bolt ons, tons of reliability upgrades like oil cooler, oil catch, coil pack and spark plugs, and I'm sitting at 245k miles stock block.bro. stock clutch replaced at 125k
how did it go
I have a SE right now too and looking to upgrade to a 17’ ST1. Would you recommend?
The chart is a pretty interesting idea for budgeting
i have a 2012 SE i special ordered in 2011. yellow blaze color which is the rarest color. it was only available the year the new gen Focus released & only on the sport model. i have a 5 speed too. i installed an Injen intake, Magnaflow cat back, Eibach pro kit, Steeda rear sway bar, 18'' wheels with 235/40 Nitto NeoGens. i also installed an ST spoiler, but it's different looking than every ST i've seen.
Just got a Kona blue st 3 today I’m a dummy 😂 definitely needed this video
Your the best thanks bro!!!
Such a good video bro can’t wait to get mine in 2021💪🏼
Did u get it?
@@Slattt90 no bro😂 in the end decided not enough of a power increase from my previous car
Great video!
Just did the math and research and this all adds up to about $5,000 without wheels and tires. $6,000 with everything plus the wheels and tires I liked
Awesome video
I got a pro-ram (from ramair) filter in my factory airbox 👍
Have the same tires on my ST. They’re incredible even in the cold & rain. But god they are awful in any amount of snow. Even a dusting on the road gets you spinning
Sounds like you should just put snow tires on.
Modding a car 101:
First get the exhaust you want that can handle the boost and exhaust flow you desire
Second, suspension and handling get your suspension and handling handled AND corner balances for the driving you want to do. Wheels and tires as well. Along with any aero work.
3rd, do a little interior and a little engine back and forth as you go
By the time you’re done in 3 to 4 years you have a well built and functional car.
Check out the sequential LEDs for the side mirror turn signals that some places are making now. They would look perfect on your ST.
Will IV does not fit US model st
@@xXDiBlurrXx not true
Mood wallet graph is to accurate!
AWE Track exhaust is 100% worth it
fyi, I have the roush catback and it is by no means a quiet exhaust. 3 in. straight pipe, with the exception of a resonator, which is also straight through.
before doing the other mods like shifters and stuff like that guys get oil catch cans it will help for less blow by going back in the motor and caking the valves get the rear and the front one before getting the other stuff you will be happy that you wont spend alot of money to get your intake valves clean
Rear one is pointless. There's no blowby there.
Front one (PCV) is ESSENTIAL. Oil is low octane and can cause knock. Having a PCV oil catch can ensures you keep your octane numbers high and don't see negative timing adjustments.
wait so do I need to down pipe my car before I tune it? Im new to all of this but I want my car to last a long time but I am itching for more speed. If I down pipe my car I need to take my whole exhaust off and put it on again and I really don't want to do that
how much will it matter installing the cobb RMM and new performance sparks before getting into the heavier engine mods. i’m improving the handling/braking now then getting the access port and starting to add HP. currently also have fswerks cold air intake and rear strut bar
4:58 “for Ma- Focus ST e-tune” lol
I’m stock aside from an air filter and a borla catback. I’m itching to get a FMIC/downpipe/etune. Since the borla is 2.5 inch instead of 3 inch, should i look at swapping it out for a larger catback?
shouldn’t you get a front mount intercooler before downpipe because you can go stage 2?
Good guide, But I would say the first question should be "Do I plan on going big turbo"? I made this mistake, went FMIC, AP (Tuned/ E40), downpipe, catback and intake. Then I decided to go BT, I went with the MT EFR kit. I pretty much had to rebuy everything for it to work out. I could of saved some money If I planned for the BT from the start.
Or you could've just bought an ATP kit and re-used the parts you have.
You didn't have to buy their kit and the ATP kits are better these days anyway (G25 is the latest and best technology for a turbo right now and the ATP kit with EWG is great).
If I don’t plan on doing a down pipe, should I still upgrade the spark plugs eventually. Just have cat back exhaust, intake, and I’m ordering a fmic soon.
Why not do the front mount intercooler first? Wouldn’t it be good to get the engine cool before anything else?
Yo what were the measurements for ride height etc in the front and rear. Just got the coils and getting a shop to do them as i dont have the time and your ride height looks aggro as **** and wanna give the shop the right measurements to get it right first go.
The graph at the end
Can you guys help me out. I'm new to cars and I have a 2016 Ford Focus titanium hatchback. Is that the same as an ST or is a titanium different to mod?
I just got a 2013 st with a good bit of aesthetic mods as well as intake and loud ass exhaust. It sounds like its catless from the backfires and how loud it is but idk if its tuned. The lot I bought it from didn’t know.
My question is: How do I go about finding out if its tuned and what tune it has? I went to the cobb website and was considering buying an accessport, but their website says if its not on a stock or cobb tune and you plug it in, it can mess up the ecm. Just wondering if anyone had any insights/advice?
I’m planning on putting the MBRP exhaust and a rear motor mount, so should I get the Cobb first ??
a short shiftier is harder than to install than an inter cooler? have I missed a short cut with the intercoller install? pls Halp me.
Are you still using the AWE? I had it installed on the better, removed it - went with Borla Atak for the variable valve NPP feature... Then went back to AWE lol videos about it on our channel
Can you run the stock tune with an access port so you can monitor stuff, I’ve heard bad things about Cobb off the shelf tunes
Got this car for like a month now, I have down pipe and k&n filter but I want to get pop and bangs form the exhaust now
get a stratified loud crackle tune, it's the most reliable crackle tune you can get
I do love everything about the car and all mods that you did I’m doing everything my self as well so all ur videos do help as well can u do a mods like air ride or rocket bunny kit
Hey bro about to get a St going to test drive one Saturday of what they have told me it has a turbo smart blow off valve and awe track catback and fmic and is running a Cobb stage 3 tune is that safe is there something I should look for or stay away from a car like that it has 77k miles
Do one for the sti!!
Can you do this for a BRZ can’t find a HELPFUL video
You’re selling the focus? I’m in north Phoenix! Holler back!
I just bought a 2018 focus st(I wanna say it’s st2 package but not sure) where can I take it to have someone tell me exactly what’s been done to it(it’s not fully stock and I know that for sure) I just wanna do the car right bc I plan on owning it for it’s full lifespan
🤔 my turbosmart BOV was that load before the symposor delete now its not.....
So you recommend going in the order you have listed?
What about an exhaust system with a valve system?
I appreciate this video bro I bought a 2018 ST brand new in 2017 and already have 100k miles (I know, crazy) and I've kept it bone stock and kept up with all maintenance. I'm finally ready to start modding it. How do you feel about resonator and muffler delete? I just ordered boomba BOV also. Cobb APv3 coming soon before I get an intake or downpipe
Holy crap! 100k in 3 years of driving? I have 44k in 4 years of driving my ST haha
i just bought a 2017 and rolled it over to 19k lol. put 800 miles on this week... oops.
Limited slip differential. I installed the Quaife ATB about 6 years ago and the torque steer went and hid. The car scoffs at tight curves. It’s like another 100 hp.
I'm thinking about buying the LSD soon and installing when I do the Fidanza flywheel I bought a few weeks ago
@@adamneill9237 : I had the Lincoln garage do it. They have done a lot of the mods on the '13 FoST - 2 . My son-in-law is the service rep and it gets first-class service.
Gfb dv+ or dvx recirc valve for louder
I wanna do some mods to mine but I don’t wanna void my warranty lol
I had bc coilovers on mine for about 3 years now, would those k sports be an upgrade compared to the bcs, or should i buy another set of bcs in your opinion?
NO NO NO. K Sport is cheap garbage. Your BCs are an upgrade to those.
If you want something new, go Fortune Auto 500.
Will you do an Audi A4 Avant next?
You can never watch this enough times.
Is a e-tune a most if the intercooler is swapped?
Not sure if it has been asked already but what wheels are on this car
Like to have a garage for my st
yo cameron are u gonna get a aftermarket steering
@cameron Alford I noticed u didn’t mention an oil catch can. Do u think it’s a necessary mod?
It’s definitely something that should be done as early as possible on any Direct Inject fuel system. The PCV vents the crankcase into the intake system and those fumes and droplets bake carbon deposits onto the intake valves. A catch can prevents most/all of those fumes from reaching your intake. On port fuel the gasoline travels over the intake valves and dissolves those deposits but on DI it does not. A catch can is a must for longevity and consistent performance over time. If the car has some miles on it already first do GDI valve cleaner or walnut blasting to clean the valves then do the catch can at the same time. Just make sure to empty The can often. A full catch can is worse than no catch can.
What is your opinion on a catch can? I have a JLT one that I haven't installed yet.
I've got a mishimoto oil separator catch can fitted
do you need an access port for a catback?
also i cannot find the cobb access port
While it might be a little late, what did the tunes and modifications do to MPG?
I have the same setup I get like 16mpg in tow on e30 but I drive like idiot
I thought this was Gjeebs
Lmfao
😂
How far can I go without Access Port, I think it's the last on my list don't wanna be meddling with my ECU?
Angelo Lopecuazto the accessport is super easy and it’s a must have. It’s helps monitor that car and let’s you know what going on with your car
when is there going to be a new build?
Should I get it tuned right after if the first mod I get is a cpe intercooler?
From what I’ve heard, you tune for the intercooler to get the most out of it. But even without a tune, it improves performance by preventing heat saturation so you can make all your horses on every pull. But now that it’s on, you can tune an otherwise stock engine more aggressively because you have so much better cooling.
Hi, what about an lsd? Would u recommend it?
What’s the next project?
I'm thinking about picking 1 of these up 2015 st3 but it has a bad title
Did you get it??
Are they good daily driver's? Or should i look for a titanium or se if i want a daily
They’re fine to drive daily as long as you don’t mind the bad MPGs/tiny gas tank, I’ve been dailying mine for 4 years no issues
BRZ build next!!
id rather see a Prius built
Or a Supra
Oh wait they’re BRZs now
Hey so my tune turns off the sound symposer. Do I still need to do a delete?
i mean you just said the tune turns it off so why do you need to delete it then?
1:06 too late blew a rod threw the engine
Dudeeee i got a 2.0 fusion (share a lot of components) i cracked the block, second engine i blew a chunk out the piston 🤣🤣 fml
If you're modding in 2023, get the depo intercooler, hands down best bang for the buck
Is your car wrapped
Are the upgraded intake plumbing worth it ?
Only if going big turbo. The tiny stock turbo can only blow so much air and changing the exhaust and intake have ZERO performance benefit on it.
Which rear motor mount do you have?
it is the COBB V2 rear motor mount, i have one and its great!
Is MBRP good?
cute graph
Does it cause problems to mod the intercooler before running the tune?
Of course you need a tune for the intercoller but You can still run with it just have to drive very slow and never use turbo boost until you get tune.
You need a tune to make full use of the intercooler. It wont cause any catastrophic damage to run an aftermarket intercooler without a tune. Commanded boost will remain the same, AFR will remain the same, just the charge air will be cooler.
Would it be safe to do the intercooler before an exhaust and all that?
Absolutely! It’s the smart thing to do
@@CameronAlford thanks brother!
Usually the intercooler is one of if not the first thing people upgrade. I was surprised it came so late in the list.
Stratified Loud Pop Tune! Please! 👍
Roush is one of the loudest exhausts out there😂 also the international should be one of your first mods Bc u won’t get the power from other mods Bc it will still heatsoak.
Intercooler*
Just got the roush installed on mine. Makes me smile like a school girl
Coilovers ?
Would these mods work on a 1.0 focus ?
don’t waste ur money on that bro
so just a intake filter not the full intake?
yes if you're keeping stock turbo
Are these mods compatible with the SE?
KChaps some of them are I have a titanium dm me @that_stock_focus if u want more info
No most are not
I’m sorry. An exhaust isn’t the first mod. It does jack besides sound. Just get a resonator delete at some point. Tune is first mod
Jackson McMaster motor mount intercooler. Exhaust and tuned. Do all the same time.
