  • Thanks to the Disney Vault and various other streaming platforms, you hardcore Disney Kids can check out the multitude of installments from the Lion King franchise whenever you feel like it. Lion King, Lion King 2, Lion King ½, The Lion Guard, They’re all right there at your fingertips, ready to be hungrily consumed by Disney-Files around the globe. However, what faded into obscurity thanks to an under promoted VHS release and its syndication being pretty irradicatly distributed across Disney’s other toon channels, was the short lived series featuring our favorite sidekicks: a wise cracking, self described “rat thing,” and a loving albeit flatulent Mr. Pig. Don’t worry though, you guys! We got our hands and hooves on this series and, as always, we’re going to give you some of the highlights. I’m Kris Carr, and today we’re taking you on a look back at The Lion King’s Timon and Pumbaa.

    I dont think its canon to the movie. it could be a multiverse kind of thing. The show would be a different dimension where humans and animals can communicate easily. It would explain why Nala isn't in it. It could be a dimension where Simba became King and Nala didn't exist and/or Nala isn't married to Simba.

    I don't think it's canon, but I really like that one episode addressed the question everyone still has: how is Simba a healthy adult lion if he ate bugs all the time? Timon is thinking the same, wondering if Simba's been eating meat behind their backs, and what if he'll eat his adoptive parents next? The ep ends with Simba's dietary habits unknown, but does confirm he'd never eat Timon and Pumbaa.

    • @Arigriphantua
      @Arigriphantua 2 роки тому +1

      Yep. It was "Congo on Like This". The tarsier that Timon and Pumbaa met in that episode was actually a jackal in disguise and was trying to keep the two away from Simba so he could eat them, but Simba saved them. Simba didn't acknowledge that he sometimes ate non-bug meat, though, but it still ended on a positive note.
      Simba also appeared in the episodes "Shake Your Djibouti", "Once Upon a Timon", "Rome Alone", and a music video of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

    I remember the old Disney series back in the 90's when I was a kid, yes I do enjoyed these series like The Gummie Bears, Tales Spin, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, The Wuzzles,Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin , Hercules, Timon and Pumba, Gargoyles, House of Mouse, American Dragon Jake Long, Kim Possible and especially Mighty Duck.
    It's a shame 😔they're not on TV anymore but at least they're on Complete DVD collections to keep the memories alive. But I still wished that The Wuzzles , The Little Mermaid, Aladdin , Hercules, Timon and Pumba, Gargoyles, Might Ducks, House of Mouse, American Dragon Jake Long and Kim Possible were finally on complete DVD collection at last as they're the only ones that weren't on Complete DVD released🤞.
    I know some people say you can watch the old series on Disney+, but I don't have one and to be honest I prefer on complete DVD like Gummie Bears, Duck Tales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Dark Wing Duck.

    The show isn’t cannon since it shows an alternate origin for Timon, it is some what similar to the one we get in 11/2 but in the show Timon was the back gate guard of his colony and has a crush on the princess, but the biggest difference is he is banished from his colony, and doesn’t leave on his own terms, maybe it’s been a while since I’ve seen the episode. Although if that episode didn’t exist I’m pretty sure it would be canon due to the fact that in 1 1/2 Timon and Pumba are watching the movie in some sorta theater and at the end a ton of Disney characters start showing up to see it again so who knows.

      Regarding this show's canonicity, I am of the opinion that the only thing which is truly canon to The Lion King is The Lion King. Both of the sequels introduce characters into the original's timeframe that obviously didn't exist within that span of time. That being said, as far as the sequels' canon (consisting of Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard), it could probably go either way; after all, this was produced by the same studio (Disney Television Animation) that produced the aforementioned Simba's Pride and Lion Guard, and The Lion Guard does have an episode where the cast celebrates Christmas.

Regarding the 'natives' I honestly, I thought the 'natives' were hilarious (Particularly the 'ungala bungala' leader) and as a teen and an adult I didn't think they were un-pc at all. Very Warner bros 90s to be sure and probably wouldn't get away with that today, but I honestly laughed my pants off watching these guys and loved that they were recurring characters. 85 episodes??? I watched the shit out of the same 6 as a kid, cause that's what I had on a compilation VHS. :D If I had known there is a whole series out in the world...:D
    Thinking back I only remember there were these compilations from this show in Hungary (where I'm from :)) I don't think the whole show ever aired on tv...

    Yes! Was recuperating from tonsillitis in the hospital, and it was on. My 6 year old self was super excited as it was Timon and Pumba. The episode was about the two finding success in their own chunky salsa business. Except that the two made the salsa entirely with bugs. Will never forget laughing so hard that tears were coming out of my eyes from both laughter and pain.

    'short lived' XD It felt like it was around forever when I was a kid - I remember that it was what toon disney marathoned for New Years Day one year. the episodes I remember best are the one where Simba had a diaper, the one with the vampire, the one where timon was trying to do right by santa, and the one where timon and pumbaa became really really old after being trapped in a tree (that one made me cry...I don't know why)

    I might be reaching too far, but I always saw it this way: As demonstrated on "House of Mouse," Disney cartoons are set in a universe where animals and humans can communicate, sort of like Looney Toons. In this universe, Timon and Pumbaa take vacations, operate machinery, and whatever else any other character would do. As for "Lion King," they were actors in a movie. They played the roles of wild animals who had no contact with the human world. The movie was based loosely on the residents of Simba's kingdom; thus the characters in the movie do have some similarities to their real lives in the animated series universe.

      How does that explain the Tarzan franchise, where only three humans can speak to animals, and two of those humans can only speak to gorillas and elephants?

    • @mcmptn
      @mcmptn 2 роки тому +2

      @@Arigriphantua Ah, the "consistency" of logic in various Disney cartoons/animated features! Whoever can explain it perfectly without anyone being able to name any exceptions to the rule is clearly smarter than I am.

    I'm a bit upset that Ernie Sabella isn't in the LIVE ACTION Lion King via Cameo role. I mean Come ON, if there is anyone else from the ORIGINAL Lion King, besides Mufasa's voice, that deserves to come back for the Live action film, then it is definitely Ernie Sabella, right ?

    Yes I remember it was the shit back in the day! I loved this show growing up. Back when Toon Disney or Jetix had awesome cartoons. I think the only thing canon is the lion king characters like Simba Tim and Pum, Rafiki, Zazu, the hyenas etc. But on the whole the show was just great fun. And I'm so happy someone is finally talking about it.

    Similarly to SpongeBob’s resurgence in popularity around the time Amanda McQuaid was in High School, (2003-2004) The Lion King franchise as a whole was starting to get it’s second wind as well with toys, a limited edition DVD release, this show was in reruns on both Disney Channel and Toon Disney

    Is the show canon? You may find your answer in Once Upon A Timon... and compare it with Lion King 1/2. Honestly, I do enjoy the show, canon or not.

    I want this show to be rebooted, but only if it's animated, not live action like the 2019 movie. The original show is very hard to find outside of Disney+, and this streaming service is not available in Russia, so it makes things worse.

    There’s one other production that both Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella were in, Dreamworks’ “Mouse Hunt”.
    Nathan Lane was Ernie Smuntz, co-owner of a string factory whom he and his brother Lars inherent a dilapidated house belonging to their father. Ernie Sabella was a City Pound worker who sold the Smuntz brothers a vicious cat to exterminate a not-so-ordinary mouse living in the old house.

    My favorite thing about Nerdwire is when Kris Reminds me that i'm actually a 14 year old. I'm worried about my mortgage and senility medication, but when Kris reminds me that everyone who watches this channel comes from a post-Britney Spears world I get to relax and wonder if Timon is a Jewish meerkat who celebrates christmas.

    This series is the Only Lion King production to use Cel Animation as everything else is Drawn on Digital Computers, it also Confirms two things
    1. Humans indeed Exist in the Lion king universe.
    2. Buildings, Advance Technology, and Clothes Are Also Present.
    And honestly I think it suits as being canon, the Lion King 11/2 shows how Timon and Pumba Met and that Timon himself Previously met that Monkey (who don't regonize each other in the original film), so the Film is a Prequel to this series, the reason Simba is residing in Timon and Pumba
    'S home is because he's Children are grown up now and he can finally spend more time with them, the Absents of Nala could be that she must've Devorsed with Simba or something, so in this case the Series takes Place after Simba's Pride and the Lion Gaurd.

  • @carinseein
    @carinseein 5 років тому +1

    I definitely remember a sword in the stone episode. That's makes the year of the show impossible next to the cruise ship and other modern sports, so the show can't be canon simply because a concrete timeline would far exceed the realms of possibility

    This show is what it is. Some of the episodes are good, Timon's wittiness is funny, the songs, animation are pretty good.. but remember they took a great movie like the Lion King and dumbed it down to Saturday morning kiddie cartoon level. I don't hate this show, but am rather massively confused by it. In this series, Timon and Pumbaa burp, vomit, drop anvils on each other, eat exploding bombs and turn to living skeletons... in the same "universe" as Simba watching his dad die, the hyenas driving Simba off to die somewhere, Mufasa's ghost, Simba vs Scar vs the Hyenas vs the Prideland animals... then here they have Timon and Pumbaa drive cars in England or use cell phones at a McDonald's in America... wasn't this a story in the ancient African countryside? Makes it less magical and mysterious. I know pumbaa farted in the Lion King and stuff, but at least they tried to be descreet and clever about it and the rest of the story made up for it.... This show just detracts from and disgraces the drama, quality and realism of TLK. Like, it's hard to take the original film seriously after watching Timon and Pumbaa, and it goes both ways. watching the movie then the "series" is like WTF. The sequels had the same problem as this show. The Lion King is for everyone, but the other films and this series are just for kids, die hard adult cartoon fans and nostalgic adults who watched them growing up... Why not an episode where Simba dislikes the responsibility of being king and has a crisis, wanting to return with T&P? Scar's ghost returns, and Simba has to team up with Rafiki and maybe even the Hyenas to get rid of him? And if he really hurts them, they can die for real, too? Instead in this cartoon the Hyena's and Simba are trained air pilots, licensed by a white guy in Florida or something (yet they are supposed to be in rural or prehistoric africa) and drive jets, dropping nukes on each other... then they shake off the "soot" or grow a third eye from radiation.. in other words, Timon and Pumbaa are immortal apparently... doesn't make sense... so, with that logic... why didn't Mufasa just "shake off" the wildebeest stampede like that if Timon and Pumbaa can get nuked and live? Where was his little halo and wings with a toy harp donning a $.10 price tag when his ghost motivated Simba to face Scar at Pride Rock? Lame. Sorry folks. It doesn't work that way. Keep it serious or don't but remember with the latter it's kind of an insult to the original. Long ago, a (gifted) guy named Tex Avery created that kind of humor to poke FUN at Walt Disney's (another gifted guy) "serious" movies LIKE Lion King (back then it was like Cinderella, Snow White, Dumbo, but you get my meaning). this could've been a way better show like "Aladdin" or "Winnie the Pooh". Just seems like a wasted opportunity to make a show about one of Disney's best 90s movies.
