I've had this problem for ages on both of my Xantias. Even after cleaning and greasing the entire mechanism and replacing the cable, it still buckled after only a few tries. The only thing I can think of to permanently solve this issue is to strengthen this part of the cable slightly, to make sure it won't buckle anymore. I'd consider it a design flaw of the Xantia
not sure what this is but it looks like the metal wire was rubbed into the plastic which might be causing the stiffness. maybe just shave away a little where the wire is sliding through
