Rose he was my guitar hero growing up learning to play. I was devastated he quit the band, I love the man as he was the coolest dude, played the greatest guitar to me, and your comment is the first one I ever seen from a woman about Taylor. I would feel the same way if a woman about the guy after he mentored my guitar playing at age 11-12... it hurt so bad when he quit.

What Mick Taylor did with the Stones at these live shows is equivalent to anything practical Jimi, SRV and Clapton did. Maybe he didnt play anything gimmicky like playing behind his back or with this teeth but just closing your eyes and listening he's right up there with the best of them
What makes Mick Taylor a class of his own is that he plays like a flow. Passing through stops that one expects because others play them, but streams them out with a flurry of notes to then do an unexpected stop or bend or vibrato or slide into the next octave. And some such things that give his play an iconic form clearly distinguishable from the play of others (like the ones that you mentioned).
I sought out this video following the passing on of Charlie Watts a few days ago. Drummer extraordinaire. Overlooked by many, his legacy will live on. Condolences to his family.

Stones were at their peak in 1972-73. Best Stones era 1968-74 Mick Taylor transformed them to a harder rocking band with his talent and Les Pauls. When you saw a show from this era you were definitely seeing the band at their prime. Not knocking the Jones or Wood era but Taylor and the band were on another level.
Taylor and Preston going crazy, and Jagger and Richards doing a damn good job of keeping up. Amazing!! ... What a thrill it was to buy this bootleg in the record store circa '79.
I have me too this amazing bootleg again, bought at the end of the '70 in a little records shop in Italy... I discovered many years later that this concert was recorded at Olympia Halle of Munich (Germany) in 1973.. (if it is the same obviously)

London Sept 9, 1973 ... I think. Mick Taylor's guitar has that raw sound that absolutely gets me off every time. Few guitar players can find that particular sound, and it is very uniquely 70's. See the first couple of comments if you're lost. If you didn't grow up in the 70's then, unfortunately, you may be lost forever.
+Cale Roy Wusere You are right. When you listen to the sound starting in 69 and then listen to the different sound, the change thru 73 it is amazing. In 69 the sound was more bluesy and by 73 the tone became raw. From 69-73 they were the best.
Hendrix was a freaked out, over-rated guitarist who's solos were long and boring. Where as Mick Taylor was an excellent blues player who was very tasteful in the notes he played. Taylor was much better unless your high as a kite and want to listen to a bunch of noise (distortion).
Mick is a blues and jazz player. Hendrix was a freaked out pschodelic player who did some blues. I never liked Jimi and yes he did influence many players but Taylor wasn't one of them. I always liked Clapton and Beck much more than most of the others. Many including B.B.King and Muddy say that Eric was the best blues player. And Jeff had a style all his own who played some of the nastiest licks ever recorded. I am probably in the minority but Beck, Clapton and Taylor were so much better than Hendrix!

John Gleeson You’re right. I do believe the MT era was the best. I just feel that MT never got the credits he deserves. From what I know is that MT got a raw deal on writing credits and little recognition from the RS for his work with them. That should be put right.

He has known/worked with Ronnie for decades,and though the world knows MT was better than Ronnie and probably keef too(!), Ronnie "fit" more into the stones lifestyle than MT ever did.
Mick Taylor left of his own accord for the right reasons : he wasn't a glam poseur or much of a showman.....most importantly he didn't like the excess drugs and alcohol being consumed in the Rolling Stones circus......
Mick Taylor's recently discovered & unreleased solo's would've taken the stones away from their blues & rock roots & into the progressive genre. Apart from Taylors virtuoso performances overshadowing Keith master riffs! I think that's mostly why he was not made a full member of the Stones until he got sick of it & left. For all the Wood haters he's been a pretty Ok replacement for the Stones style roots. God knows where they would've ended up if Brian Jones hadn't also been cast out :)

I saw them in Gothenburg on Goats head soup tour in 73. At 14 this was one of my first live shows. Remember how Taylor’s guitar playing just lifted me sky high. Jagger was of course the centre of attention but that guitar behind him. Especially on this song. That melodic drive!!
I'm so glad I had the opportunity to meet Mick Taylor in Minneapolis many years ago. My brother and I were at a bar and he was playing with his band at the time. During a break he came over to our table and just talked for about 15 min. He was so down to earth and easy going. He played Little Red Rooster and some other early Stones stuff. It is a great memory.
Mick Taylor just flat out kills on this tune. Man......relentless. Melodic, kick-ass RnR. Always loved his playing. Nice to see him play with them at the Hyde Park HBO Show. (know it's been out awhile, but just recently saw it). His 1st Show the 1st time around, then to be playing with the guys again on this 1....well, that was pretty cool imo. Full circle. Hey! you're right all down the line: the Stones were on fire back in those days!!! Mick Taylor...man! what a musician! the Stones started losing out quite a bit after he quit the band. How about now? What do you think of the rendition they deliver during their No Filter tour? I couldn't hit Lucca (Italy) Too far from where I live (MIlan) and tickets prices just CRAZY. I listened to some stuff available on UA-cam and I was rather disappointed. Slow tempo on most numbers, Mick's voice not always there and Keef's hands badly caught up with arthritis. I feel a bit sad about that but, on the other hand, they're 74 and they are still rocking!

Not a guitarist dead or alive that touches Mick Taylor, who just has a note perfect musicality and something extra none of the others have. Seemed to always be spontaneous, with no two solos being identical live, too.
HD Property Vids Couldn't have said it any better myself. Taylor's style and articulation is quite plainly second to none in my book. I have no problem attributing him THE quintessential rock and blues lead guitarist, period.

I still have the cassette tape I recorded from this broadcast and it is one of the hottest recordings from the early 70s with Mick Taylor and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman. They were all hot hot hot.

I was complimenting on how brilliant he was playing the song. Meaning this was my favorite piece of work by him. I know he has done way much more than this, the stones lost a great masterpiece when he left them.
There is something truly unique about his [and the bands] performance on this piece. It's like walking into a bar one night and having the local band have that one perfect performance that you know they'll never repeat. It's raw like that .. it's perfect like that. Performances like that are rare.
Sounds GREAT! Love song! Undisputed World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band at this time. No doubt. 3 yrs. prior, arguable. Imo only. :) There was another little R n R Band that split at that time. Only others able to lay claim to it. Imo. lol That was then. 73, STONES! Saw them in Memphis July 4,1975 outdoors at Liberty Bowl. 50,000 plus. packed! Bicentennial Year. Mick sprayed those close enough to stage ( I was 1 of 'em) :) with a water hose. HOT. Best Show ever 4 me. Can never forget. Memories.
I never heard them rock out more and better than during these Brussels gigs and the ballads are also done in the most haunting, compelling way. The albums they recorded between '68 and '72 represented best what would become known as the typical Stones style and sound and, looking back, these '73 concerts are the most satisfying conclusion to that period.
I'm 65 and I have been a Stones fan for 50 years, even though I probably did not appreciate them when I was younger. It is so great for these gems to pop up on You Tube. Thanks for posting.

Hey! you're right all down the line: the Stones were on fire back in those days!!! Mick Taylor...man! what a musician! the Stones started losing out quite a bit after he quit the band. How about now? What do you think of the rendition they deliver during their No Filter tour? I couldn't hit Lucca (Italy) Too far from where I live (MIlan) and tickets prices just CRAZY. I listened to some stuff available on UA-cam and I was rather disappointed. Slow tempo on most numbers, Mick's voice not always there and Keef's hands badly caught up with arthritis. I feel a bit sad about that but, on the other hand, they're 74 and they are still rocking!

Saw Taylor with John Mayall in 1969, my first-ever gig, six months before he joined the Stones. I started at the top and had nowhere else to go.
Wow you truly saw one of the greatest incarnations of all time...i read that when a reporter asked Mayall out of all the guitarists who played in the Bluesbreakers who was the best he didnt miss a beat..MT because all the others would have a bad night here and there.MT didnt...when he was with the Stones they were all at there peak..Dirty,bitchin Rock and Roll by the greatest Rock band in the world..Period.They did it first,they did it best,and there still doin it.God love em
Not a guitarist dead or alive that touches Mick Taylor, who just has a note perfect musicality and something extra none of the others have. Seemed to always be spontaneous, with no two solos being identical live, too.
HD Property Vids Couldn't have said it any better myself. Taylor's style and articulation is quite plainly second to none in my book. I have no problem attributing him THE quintessential rock and blues lead guitarist, period.
Cha Tae-Shik Listen to his epic solo on John Mayall’s song Marriage Madness to hear one of THE greatest blues rock solos ever recorded and one of the finest pieces of music in general. His phenomenal playing on that song alone is enough to rank him as being one of the preeminent guitarists of his entire generation.
His solos were just so winding and flowing. He never hits a wall it’s just all so smooth and effortless
I'd love Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman to tour with them for a final performance. Mick Taylor and Charlie kill it.

The Mick Taylor years have always been my favorite Stones years starting with 'Get Yer Yah Yah's Out'. The full hour version of 100 years Ago SO should've been part of a double Goat's Head Soup' album!

I’ve had this since 1973 from the San Francisco Bay area on the FM radio station “king biscuit flower hour”. I still have the cassette tape I recorded from this broadcast and it is one of the hottest recordings from the early 70s with Mick Taylor and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman. They were all hot hot hot.
Old man, King Buiscuit Flower Hour was required listening on Sunday nights. In the Boston area on WBCN. Today's listeners missed so much.

I was complimenting on how brilliant he was playing the song. Meaning this was my favorite piece of work by him. I know he has done way much more than this, the stones lost a great masterpiece when he left them.
There is something truly unique about his [and the bands] performance on this piece. It's like walking into a bar one night and having the local band have that one perfect performance that you know they'll never repeat. It's raw like that .. it's perfect like that. Performances like that are rare.

Sounds GREAT! Love song! Undisputed World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band at this time. No doubt. 3 yrs. prior, arguable. Imo only. :) There was another little R n R Band that split at that time. Only others able to lay claim to it. Imo. lol That was then. 73, STONES! Saw them in Memphis July 4,1975 outdoors at Liberty Bowl. 50,000 plus. packed! Bicentennial Year. Mick sprayed those close enough to stage ( I was 1 of 'em) :) with a water hose. HOT. Best Show ever 4 me. Can never forget. Memories.

I never heard them rock out more and better than during these Brussels gigs and the ballads are also done in the most haunting, compelling way.
The albums they recorded between '68 and '72 represented best what would become known as the typical Stones style and sound and, looking back, these '73 concerts are the most satisfying conclusion to that period.
I'm 65 and I have been a Stones fan for 50 years, even though I probably did not appreciate them when I was younger. It is so great for these gems to pop up on You Tube. Thanks for posting.
