La and Che: The Stones wrote this song in 1972 after a 14 year old unarmed African American kid was walking with his father to the NYC auto-body shop where his dad worked at 5am so he could watch him work. Two plainclothes cops jumped out of a car and allegedly did NOT ID themselves. The boy and his dad thought they were being mugged and ran away and one of the cops fatally shot the 14-year old in the back. The Dad ran to a MARKED police car and had them drive over to the crime scene thinking that he and his son were mugging victims and the regular cops and the dad allegedly saw the 2 plain-clothes cops kicking the dead teen's body. They were tried criminally BUT acquitted by a majority white jury when the cops said they were investigating an armed robbery (involving 2 30+ year olds)- the first time NYC police were criminally charged for a BLM style event- but the shooter was kicked off the force for this act and prior events with other people and the family WON at civil trial for unlawful death of their son. It came out in the civil trail that the cop who did the shooting had shot another Black man in the back.....
Trump's cops. Keith Schiller. His racist gang within NYPD. Same scumbag who accused Central Park 5 of rape and murder, acquitted by DNA evidence that linked it to a white serial rapist murderer. Anyone of color nursing Trump's racist moobs because he conned criminals like Don King and a few others to take the money to pretend Stop & Frisk policies Fred & Donald Trump implemented with Mafia fixer Roy Cohn, if you weren't awake for Central Park 5, well in 1970's, Fred and Donald's housing discrimination was in peak operation. Paying dirty cops to clear out people of color near their condos and towers they contended lowered their real estate values just walking around nearby. Keith Richards knows all about racist shitbag Trumpedo.
This was the Era when The Stones had the pulse of the street in all of their music, like many artists of the day. It was gritty and unflinching. No sugarcoating at all. Grew up loving this space in music, prior to Punk and Disco as a kid. It had the residue of the 60’s struggles all over it. It was real, powerful and beautiful. You guys are killin it! 🤘😎
I was surprised to learn that critics weren’t that impressed with Goats head soup album….exile on main st, while good…was a bit overrated to me. The Stones were still at their peak at this point
Goats head soup is an underrated album, so good. The funny part is I’m revisiting the stones primarily because of watching your reactions. When you’re growing up with it in your home you tend to take it for granted. Thanks!
There's also a definite ode to the funky soul of artists like Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield, not just in sound but overt social consciousness. Moreover, it was the height of blaxploitation, which probably had as much influence on this track as what was really happening on the streets. “Fingerprint File” on the next album ups the ante.
Yes, the Jamaican album, as I often refer to it. It's less focused than its four predecessors, but the high points are peak-era Stones, and it coincides with the band’s phenomenal European Tour of 1973, where they played with a matchless synergy and tightness compared to ensuing tours. I like the album, even if its hazy production bogs down some of the tracks, and it marks a shift from long-time producer Jimmy Miller, in addition to more ballad territory. All in all, a very good record that teeters on greatness.
You could just do Stones reactions for the next six months and probably not find any bad or throwaway songs. There were back then, and still to this day, are something very special. Bangers stacked on top of each other, song by song, album by album. BTW, The Doobie Brothers, The Stones and Grand Funk on the same day….pure 🔥. You guys are killin’
Most bands: 5 - 10 good songs and most of the rest is filler. Stones: 40+ well known songs, with the best being as good as anyone else's. And the rest of their songs - lots of them are better than their hits.
Through it all, in the expanse of music, genres, eras, over a span of decades, at the end of the day, the stones just come out on top for me, as the greatest.
I love this Rolling stones rabbit hole!!!! So many more great songs still untouched!!!!😊 "Dead flowers","Mother's little helper",”19th Nervous Breakdown "........💯👍
Rolling Stones are absolute 🔥. So many timeless songs in their catalog that sound just as good and relevant today as they did when they first came out 30, 40, 50+ years ago. For another Stones banger, you need to check out “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (but I like it).” Amazing lyrics and a hard core rocker!
The po-lice in New York city, chased a boy right through park, in a case of mistaken identity, they put a bullet through his heart. Heartbreakers, with your forty fours, wanna tear your world a part.
Love this album!! And all other Stones album lol. I don't think I've heard a bad song from them like ever!! I'm so happy my mom introduced me to them and is taking me to their concerts! Saw them last year in Milan and my god they were just AMAZING. Seeing and hearing Wild Horses live was unreal.... Still mind blowing that Mick jagger did the concert in 38 degrees Celsius (it's like almost 100 degrees F I think??) 10 days after getting tested positive of covid. Like who does that??? Most would have cancelled the whole tour, like some do that are 1/4 of his age... no names mentioned haha.. but not Mick Jagger. Nope. Living legend. Mad respect.
Now I'm in a Rolling Stones mood tonight. I looked first this time and didn't see it, so please do Time Waits for No One when you get a chance. Thanks.
Billy Preston played piano on this song, and Chuck Findley played trumpet. Other artists Chuck Findley other worked for include George Harrison, Quincy Jones, Diana Ross, the Carpenters, Rod Stewart, and Robert Palmer. This is a trumpet-heavy track that pushes the sound Jagger wanted. Great choice, guys.
@@nazfrdeYeah. Those first coupla bars with the overdrive clavinet power chords are sick. Most people don't realize that the wah in the chorus is Billy's clav.
Bobby Keys and Jim Horn both played sax on this tune so you are hearing a horn section not just one person. Billy Preston also drives the song with his clavinet playing in addition to piano
Billy Preston (clavinet and Electra piano) and Mick Taylor (lead guitar) use the wah-wah effect brilliantly here. Be sure to listen to some of the live versions from 1973, where Taylor cuts loose. Also, not enough can be said of Jim Horn’s masterly horn arrangement.
Charlie may not have been the fastest or most technical drummer but he was perfect for the Stones. I can't believe they're still touring without him. RIP Charlie Watts!
Nice! You guys should do some early stuff with Brian Jones! " Ruby Tuesday, She's a Rainbow, Mothers Little Helper, Midnight Rambler....please! Not nearly as funky, more blues and Psychedelic!
IM SO GLAD YOU ARE DISCOVERING MY GENERATIONS MUSIC. My first concert when i was 15 was the Beatles at Atlanta Stadium in 1965. I was fortunate enough to see Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Dylan, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, The Allman Bros Band. I could go on and on but I never got to see the Stones live. You have to hear GIMMEE SHELTER,JUMPING JACK FLASH, TUMBLING DICE, UNDER MY THUMB. YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT, ANGIE, WILD HORSES, RUBY TUESDAY AND LADY JANE. ENJOY. SATISFACTION,
The song was a commentary on urban America and how violent it was, both criminally and law enforcement. Fun fact: Billy Preston played the awesome piano 🔥
Man fellas, I really dig y'all's reactions 👍I'm glad Zeppelin and The Stones have appealed to y'all....I love the Stones, saw them once on their "Steel Wheels" tour.... The Stones have different periods with different rhythm guitarist.... Brian, Mick and Ronnie... I personally like all songs buuuut for me the Mick Taylor years were coolest... They were their gritty and dirtiest in my opinion 👍 Sympathy for the Devil is in my opinion one of the top 10 songs in rock music and that was Brian.
Great music is timeless and always applies to the generations who come afterwards. I often wonder how many if today's artists will have such staying power and legacies with their music catalogs. The Stones were poets and writers more than a one trick pony as a proclaimed number one Rock snd Roll band. So much depth there woth their love of the blues, Motown, Jazz abd Rock.

Thank you I did not know the story.
Thank you for this information!!
Thanks for this background. I did not know all the details.

Interesting story. Thanks for sharing.
The Stones Are Amazing.....Over 7 Decades!!
The Stones were and are the Real Deal. They touched on subjects others couldn't, and did it with grit and class.
This was the Era when The Stones had the pulse of the street in all of their music, like many artists of the day. It was gritty and unflinching. No sugarcoating at all. So, so,many. This could go on forever.
They have a million of 'em😅 all good
Goats head soup is an underrated album, so good.
The funny part is I’m revisiting the stones primarily because of watching your reactions. When you’re growing up with it in your home you tend to take it for granted.
Thanks!
Same here, made me re evaluate Plant as a singer....
Same!!!
As a die-hard Stones fan, I am happy people are finally encouraged to revisit one of the undeniable topmost bands of all time.
We just thought it was normal, the music so real
Another great gritty Stones track.
Yes!!!!! Goats head soup is the most underrated of all stones records! Good work 👏 great reaction NOW PLEASE DO SHATTERED!!! 🙏 😅
Off the hook by the Rolling Stones is also really underrated as well
When they talk about a 'classic' rock song...this is quintessential...there may be equals, but there is nothing better.
The Stones are the epitome of music, which is organic, and not contrived like a lot of contemporary music of today
I like your sentiment, though I don't agree with your comment.
It would take way too long to explain why.
Think you both are on the right track
Correct
Love this kind of Stones track, when they sound ragged, raw, and tight all at the same time. Just a great band.
The song captures the see spirit of NYC long before son of Sam with his 44 terrorized the city.
Off the under-appreciated Goats Head Soup album. Mick Taylor era.

Masterpiece
One of my top 5 Stones songs....killer.
What a decade...some of the worst events, some of the best music. 😢❤
I just saw the Tedeschi Trucks Band in concert last night and they performed this song.
How about that?!?
I bet they were fantastic!! 👍
The first Stones song I fell in love with.them horns baby
My man Melvin. Hope you have a great weekend!!
@@AirplayBeats same to you guys man yall are bringing it 💯
I saw in an interview one time Keith Richard’s said other bands are about the rock and they were more about the roll. True groove masters! Great song!
There lies the difference between great bands and The Stones.
The roll, otherwise known as Charlie Watts.
Great choice guys. The rest of Goats Head Soup is fantastic as well.
Stole the love right out my heart ❤
Another great song your hitting the diamonds of rock ..continue your journey great job.
From the Goats Head Soup album, and all of it is worth hearing.
Through it all, in the expanse of music, genres, eras, over a span of decades, at the end of the day, the stones just come out on top for me, as the greatest.
Ya I always loved this song. But it has broke my heart. I grew up on the streets, so I could identify with both incidents 😢❤🇨🇦
Thank you thank you. Ive been asking for this reaction. Buckle in.
I love this Rolling stones rabbit hole!!!! So many more great songs still untouched!!!!😊
"Dead flowers","Mother's little helper",”19th Nervous Breakdown "........💯👍
You guys have made me remember just how much the Stones music touched our young lives! Thanks for doing it….cheers!
"This group is AMAZING!" I LOVE it! Stones always had longevity. Thanks for another GREAT reaction
Another vote for "Dead Flowers!" (Keep up the fabulous Stones reactions!)
No way! How long have we waited for some on point dudes to do The Rolling Stones. Here we go!
This should be good. Not bad for 50 years old.
Give me chills😮
When this song came out, I was a young kid, had no idea what this song was about, now I do and the song is still great.
This song is wicked on so many levels, I love it! My first favorite band...
The Stones were never my favorite band but they have quite a few songs that are quite perfect, this is one of them.

So Much of the Stones best work came from the time Mick Taylor was on Guitar with Keef .
One of my favorites, a song hardly ever played on the radio 😢
Billy Preston played keyboards on this and quite a bit more during the 70s with The Stones
Truly heartbreaking lyrics
This song still resonates to this day. In this time now
One of my fave RS tunes. Can't say that I have an all-time fave. There are just too many.
Y'all need to hear Exile on Main Street! Talk about gritty!
This is my favorite stones recording. That guitar break is phenomenal
The Stones don't stop.

This world can be so cold and the Stones touched every subject right on point
This is one of those songs where you can't help but start dancing, but then you listen to the subject matter and think, man, should I be dancing?
Thanks fellas for taking me on this journey with you. One of many great songs from the Stones. Great reaction fellas! Appreciate you 🙏 ❤
That growl at the end says it all, rockin tune!!!!!!!!!! My FAV!!!!!!!!!!
Greatness
Seems like it's HHHHooooot. i know them as I am 64. you have a long way to go with the band. One of
the Top10 groups.
They are up there as one of the best bands ever!!
Beech by The Rolling Stones is another great song.
World's Greatest Rock Band
One of Mick's best vocals. He really sounds pissed.
One of those songs that make you wish for just one more verse.
Two is just not enough.
One of RS most powerful tunes -- definitely one of the highlights of the 70s. I enjoyed every minute
Great reaction fellas! This is my favorite stones song. I was like you guys, those lyrics are true today
Timeless. All Stones music is timeless.
Charlie may not have been the fastest or most technical drummer but he was perfect for the Stones. I can't believe they're still touring without him. RIP Charlie Watts!
Mr watts playing on emotional rescue and if I was a dancer part 2 is like butter silky smooth 😁
Mick doesn’t fuck around when it comes to ticket sales
@@Jimmy2time He must've found a way to take it with him. At almost 81 he must know the end is coming.
A jazz drummer who played rock n roll. It was that Charlie swing.

NYC back in the 1970s was crazy.. the crime and corruption. I lived there for 28 years

The emotion in Jagger's voice makes this song.
Billy Preston on the Clavinet overdriven through tube Marshals, with those 1-5-1 powerchords, tells you what you're getting into in the first 2 bars!
This is a pretty heavy song for being so damn funky.
Hand of Fate is one you should give a listen to as well. The story that one tells is Great as well.
Could have been written today.
A Stones classic! Love the horns and guitars.
The stones were never ones to shy away from social commentary and this song is one instance of that.✌🏼🎶😢
The song was a commentary on urban America and how violent it was, both criminally and law enforcement. Fun fact: Billy Preston played the awesome piano 🔥
Goats Head Soup has always been my favourite album and this track one of the reasons
The first 2 verses were true then, now, and forever. Nothing will ever change that.
Mick Taylor was a genius and the Stones are less without him.
As true today, as it was yesterday
Peace
You guys know how much guts The Stones had to write and perform this very relevant old classic tune.
Have you ever heard someone sing “Oh Yeah” like that? Wow!
Incredible song.
Great band in it's hay day Fave song by them thanx guys
I've seen them 6 times and I pretty sure I've never seen them do this one live. Great track.
Thanks for the reaction. Keep doing Stones, I'll be here.

You let it play out without stopping. Sometimes the song just takes you for a ride. As the great ones should.
I bought this album the day it came out, I was a senior in high school.
