I'd assume the flashbacks are Vader remembering & comparing echoes (past & present coincidences) in time. Just based on how the series started in first person, with self monologue & with reddish tint like Vader vision. It would be a weird tonal shift to have them not be his thoughts when the series did red vision as his memory / POV from the beginning. Good review.
