The best Mercedes ever made, I wish I kept mine, such a beautiful looking car, I remember seeing adverts for these when they first came out, I was living in Germany at the time, I was around 9-10 years old, I loved the look of the car back then, the old cars are amazing, I like the simplicity of older cars, i was asked what cars i would buy, this was probably the most modern of my choices, this is definitely the best looking estate car ever built
Such a joy to watch these beautiful cars in beautiful surroundings. They almost become part of the landscape. If well preserved they will last into eternity (as they should).
I remember going in a taxi Diesel estate on holiday in Turkey as a kid . I was smitten with that sound of the engine . One day i will hopefully get one as my forever car . Wish they still made cars like this 🤔👍
I have owned a 230TE for 25 years and it still looks good. The previous owner used to take it to Germany for servicing. Will never sell it So well built and solid and after 40 years the paint still shines.
China blue…. I wondered what that shade of blue was called! In my university days there were a number of china blue 240d’s and 300d’s around the University Park and Highland Park neighborhoods of Dallas. They were head turners even when new. They seemed to transcend other cars; one didn’t ask about performance specifications. I’d love to have one today in the same color!
Lovely cars! I'm on my 6th w123 and 3rd S123, an ivory white 240TD -83 same colour as the 300TD in the video. It's done 940,000kms (old taxi) and it's on its second engine as far as I can work out but it still pouts along, not the prettiest example out there but for Sweden standards it's really not bad. Looking for another S123 project soon
I would love to have a black, sliver, or graphite grey W123 280CE with a sunroof and palomino leather interior. Yes, I know my technical terms for the colors aren't correct. I've got the W123 World book. I'm just too lazy to look up the proper names for these colors. I live in NYC so I want a two door. Keep it small but with the windows rolled down and sunroof open the 280CE would be an amazing sunny day cruiser.
God I wish my w123 was a blue wagon.... without the rust. Need a new floor pan on mine due to a pinhole in the isolation layer in the rear seat. True pain.
My mother had a 1983 280TE which was purchased new. It was Impala with tan interior (rare colour combination) it had a sun roof, leather seats, climate control, top of the line Becker sound system with cassette and AM/FM stereo, Electric windows and third row seat. My two brothers and my sister used to nearly have fist fights to sit in the rear facing third row seat. It was hands down our most favourite family car. We had it until 1990 when it was replaced with a S124 300TE in silver on black.. (we didn’t like it that much, for some reason..lol). After the 300TE we ended up with a W126 420SE (Impala with burgundy interior)… Mercedes brilliant history.. very crappy future.
One of my dream cars. I would happily use a 300TD Turbo in a daily basis 🤭 Can someone tell me if heated seats are available for the back seats, or they’re just a option in the front one?
Sedans are still everyday drive. But they rust even on the sun. Station wagons are not as common finds. Ive also noticed different headlight stiles on the Mercedes 123.
Lovely cars. A tragedy they was never a V8 option. The engine options are not great as the diesel engines are slow, unrefined, and prone to catastrophic failure if an oil cooler line fails. The 4 cylinder petrol engines are underpowered while the six cylinder engines lack power at low RPM. The DOHC 24 valve 2.7 L six (M110.984, 136 kW/182 bhp) has the best performance but the SOHC 8 valve 2.3 L four (M102.980, 100 kW/134 bhp) performs about the same at lower RPM, has substantially better fuel economy, and is cheaper to maintain.
The diesel engines in the W123 use an oil cooler and if a cooler line fails the engine will suffer a complete loss of oil pressure which will very quickly destroy these high compression engines. The old Volvo petrol engines are the most reliable car engines. The owner of a P1800S drove it over 3.25 million miles with the original B18 engine. The 200 series Volvos are much safer and have a much smaller turning circle than the W123, while the wagon variants have a lot more cargo space and were also available with a rearward facing bench seat for children as an optional extra. The W123 feels more luxurious and better made, but in the real world the 200 series Volvos are better in every metric that matters... also easy/inexpensive to fit a limited slip diff to a Volvo 1030 (Dana 30) axle.
I love the 123 it’s really a great car, the last classic looking model and I had owned a couple of them too as well the 115, 116 ,126 chassis both with petrol and diesel engine . But in my opinion the 124 was the best Mercedes ever, if it’s not problem for anyone that it looks out a little bit modern ,not so old school like the 123. But it’s the golden middle way because much better to drive, it already has the basic safety features like ABS,SRS,ASR,ASD, and comfort extras like the power seats but not too heavy and big as the 126, and it fitted with a couple of useable engines, even for daily driver with enough power and with acceptable consumption ( 220E, 250 or 300turbo diesel)and at least easy to fixing and it still has a good parts availability ! Cheers from Hungary 🇭🇺

Absolutely adorable cars. Best and most reliable cars ever made. Specially the 300 D Turbo diesels. Nice video.

Hello from Texas! I've had my 1985 300TD (Barolo Red) for 6 years now. A truly amazing vehicle.
Absolute beauty
Have a 280CE love it, always check the weather each morning to see if I can take it to work 😊 Have Mark's book too!

It would be nice if MB made rebuild kits, for the diesel vacuum pumps for the w123 and body rubbers seals.

Front only
@@ronalddean3630 Thanks!
I have heard that the front sway bar with the bushings is different than sedan/coupe ones. Is it true?
What diesel engine of the W123 is the best and has the least problems?
OM617
For me is the 300d
@@diogojudice8054 My father had a 240D 3.0, worSt car ever, a little Honda had to tow him in winter.
@@Tintoycarthen why are they still going at it in Africa with precarious maintenance? Because they were so "bad" right?
@@mihaisirbu1 It's nonstop maintenance.
