I'm not ashamed to say we had the habit of wading in mud water until almost high school, and it only stopped because my dad started filling the hole and sharp broken concrete chunks hurt to stand on. I at least rolled my pants up every time after. But I do still go out and walk in ankle deep puddles and stretches of muddy clay when it rains. And I'm not ruining clothes because I go barefoot with rolled pant legs. There's just something so calming about the cold water across my feet.

So, you know, like any other child, I went up to ledge and prepared myself. There were about five or six bars. I could never get to even the third bar. That was my goal, to at least reach the third bar. While, my _ultimate_ goal was to go to the other side and maybe, even go all the way back. So... how could I possibly do it? Maybe keep trying the regular way and build up strength? Leave the monkey bars entirely and go to the swings or slides? Nope. I decided that to get to my goal of reaching the third bar, I would _jump_ . Yes, you read that right, _jump_ . That in itself isn’t too bad, everybody jumped. But... I was also short...-er than the average elementary schooler and obviously not very athletic. Anyway, I prepped myself and built up confidence. I bent my legs, then launched myself to the third bar. My fingers touched the bar, but, they never got a grip... I was falling before I knew, then I hit the ground. I went home after that. Well, was recess over? Kids fall all the time, why didn’t you just try again?, you may be asking, dear reader who cared enough to listen to my story. Well, you see, I hadn’t had a safe landing. Oh, no, I had landed on the one thing that would keep me from trying _that_ plan again. Not my arm, but my ankle. I later found out that it was fractured. I couldn’t put any kind of weight on it, not even to walk. So, that is my monkey bar story and why I will never ever attempt to try monkey bars ever again and why you, Ice Cream, shouldn’t feel too bad about not being able to do them. There was the one time at my elementary school that I was at the playground, and since we were the only class out at that time, our relatively small class was scattered about and the monkey bars were free, which was rare. So, you know, like any other child, I went up to ledge and prepared myself.
There were about five or six bars. I could never get to even the third bar. That was my goal, to at least reach the third bar. While, my _ultimate_ goal was to go to the other side and maybe, even go all the way back.
So... how could I possibly do it? Maybe keep trying the regular way and build up strength? Leave the monkey bars entirely and go to the swings or slides?
Nope. I decided that to get to my goal of reaching the third bar, I would _jump_ . Yes, you read that right, _jump_ . That in itself isn’t too bad, everybody jumped. But... I was also short...-er than the average elementary schooler and obviously not very athletic.
Anyway, I prepped myself and built up confidence. I bent my legs, then launched myself to the third bar. My fingers touched the bar, but, they never got a grip... I was falling before I knew, then I hit the ground.
I went home after that.
Well, was recess over? Kids fall all the time, why didn’t you just try again?, you may be asking, dear reader who cared enough to listen to my story. Well, you see, I hadn’t had a safe landing. Oh, no, I had landed on the one thing that would keep me from trying _that_ plan again.
Not my arm, but my ankle.
I later found out that it was fractured. I couldn’t put any kind of weight on it, not even to walk.
So, that is my monkey bar story and why I will never ever attempt to try monkey bars ever again and why you, Ice Cream, shouldn’t feel too bad about not being able to do them. Thank you anyone that took the time to read.
