- 👉Once upon a time, there was a computer with the power of both Intel and AMD combined into a compact mini PC. Intel’s Hades Canyon, which was part of their gaming focused enthusiast line of NUCs or next unit of computing hardware featured an Intel processor paired with an AMD GPU. Let's explore together how Intel's Hades Canyon NUC performs six years later in 2024 and check out some new release PC games as well as current emulation.

Did you own a Hades Canyon NUC back in the day? 🔥🔥
yup sill got mine !!! good vid !!!
Dont have one yet but I am still looking to get one for my collection once prices get even lower. I have a Skull Canyon and my new daily driver is a Serpent Canyon, but I love these things so much I still want a Hades and Phantom. Eventually I also want to get an ROG NUC since it is in reality the NUC14 Enthusiast Scorpion Canyon.
Very cool to find other NUC enthusiasts! 🤗
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's one of those passion videos for me.
I still have mine but struggling to get it to function properly. Any good forums out there?
I wish Intel would release some of their graphics cards with that cool skull logo.
I agree, it would make for good branding! 🔥🔥
I have an OEM version of this PC - I use it with Linux as at some point general Windows driver support stopped and only the official Intel Hades NUC model remained supported despite the OEM variant being the same hardware. It's possible to patch the Windows drivers (manufacturer ID) to work on the OEM device but it's such a hassle. For driver support both Intel and AMD point to the responsibility of the OEM to provide compatible drivers.
It's a nice system still. I am using Pop!OS and Batocera on mine.
Yea, it's still VERY performant! 🔥
I still use one of these inside an NES for the past 5 years, the fit was perfect, it works great and is very reliable.
Haha, that's very cool! It's still a great PC even after all of these years 🔥
Now this is what I've been waiting for! 🔥
🤗🤗🤗
The iGPU actually holds it own against the 780M.
Thanks for making this video, I always wanted one of these amazing looking NUCs. As always, I learned about a game I didn't know and now want to try! This time it's Resogun!
Regs! 🤗🤗 Oooo, Resogun is a fun time! One of my favorite "lighter" PS3 games.
It was a surprise to me to see that Intel put a TPM 2.0 module in these so it will install W11 when W10 support ends next fall. Ghost Canyon does not have the TPM unless you bought the business edition or the Xeon one. I use the HVK version at work as a personal desktop that is easy to store when I am off, and it has been a great machine for my usage. When I am on the midnight shift and have time for gaming, I use it for Elder Scrolls Online (100fps at high settings) and as a media device.
this is my every day driver and still strong
That's awesome, it's got some amazing longevity!
Love my Hades canyon… just fyi, you can upgrade the wifi\bluetooth card . I put a ax210 chip for like 10$
Ooo, that's a good idea! Which one are you using specifically?
@@retrotechdad Intel ax210 6e. The hades in Og for. had wifi 5 and bluetooth 4.2, this bumps it to 6 and bt 5.2. Worth the few bucks!
Love the video but using the base model for the gaming performance aspect of the video was mildly disappointing.
Sorry about that, it's the only one I could get my hands on at a reasonable price. It's still very impressive what the entry model could do even today!
Great video!
Where did you get the driver updates?
Thank you 🤗🤗
ASUS actually hosts them directly now! dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/NUC/Intel_NUC_Board/GFX-Radeon-Win10-23.10.01.46.zip?model=NUC8I7HVK

@retrotechdad awesome thanks
Haven't seen yet but there better be Hades gameplay or else we can't be frens no mo🎉😂
👀it does run Hades
and VERY well. 🔥🔥🔥
Sweet
I have one 👍🏼. Could you please post the links of the 3 drivers? I couldn't find them
Absolutely! Here is a direct link to the graphic drivers: dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/NUC/Intel_NUC_Board/GFX-Radeon-Win10-23.10.01.46.zip?model=NUC8I7HVK

@@retrotechdad thanks man 👍🏼
🤠can it run Orí 🙊
😁😁😁
Man it sucks that there wasn't a new iteration on this.
Now obviously we have amd's apu's with the 780m, but they're still basically about as powerful as a gtx 1060 graphically, from 8 years ago.
I mean yes, it's impressive. But I wanna see more. The 780m has been in way too many handhelds and mini pc's, and I just wanna see a more powerful Apu, even if it's more power hungry. Maybe the new strix halo is gonna change that.
On a side note. I'm gonna try cruise n blast. It looks like a fun arcade racer (my favourite being burnout revenge)
What is more powerful: this nuc or amd780?
@@illeskov the 780m is faster of course. But keep in mind there's like a 6 year gap between the two.
At low settings in cyberpunk, we are getting about 25-35 fps here .
At same settings with 780m it would be 50+.
So there is a noticeable difference, but I feel if amd and Intel had done more iterations on this NUC then 6 years later we would have something much more powerful.
@@AJ-jq3hm it interesting in terms of actual price. some 780 from alibaba costs exactly like used old NUC, so its no reason to buy old stuff
Red dead redemption 2? Apparently it used to work untill something just stopped working? Any idea now?
I'm gonna have to check this out for you! 🙏
More than a hand model. lol Another great video :)
Aww, thanks! 😁😅
Brilliant! Still using mine as a daily driver. Latest windows 11 canary insider os. Running it for my work and media needs. Hooked up to 4k lg 65 inch tv. Best pc I've ever had. It replaced my alienware alpha back in 2020......
where can you find the drivers for Radeon RX Vega M Graphics. It's completely scrubbed from the official sites
ASUS now hosts them since taking over the NUC brand. Here is a direct link to the graphic drivers: dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/NUC/Intel_NUC_Board/GFX-Radeon-Win10-23.10.01.46.zip?model=NUC8I7HVK

@@retrotechdad Thank you🙏
@retrotechdad Can you tell me what AMD/Vulkan driver version you are using on the Hades Canyon to run RPCS3 emulator please? Mine stopped working earlier this year, trying to understand why.
