I looked up the service order, it was only a data recovery, no repairs were done.
This had to have been done on purpose... There's no other way!
@@Gansekommando Which means they opened the MacBook up to remove the ssd to get at the data... which means they owe her a wifi antenna due to poor routing when closing it back up, not to mention WTF with the screws that were supposed to be screwed in??? they had no reason to remove those screws to get at the ssd.... but, I'll tell you a secret... Geeksquad has a standard diagnostic script/procedure & they take shit apart they shouldn't even touch just to see what else is wrong and what else they can try to charge for - it's called upselling.
@@menotu000 The note that was pulled out was not a Service Order receipt from Geek Squad, so the unit might have been serviced at one point by the company, but I doubt the take-apart and "re-assembly" was done by an agent. When I worked for them, I hated sending units out for repair, since Quality Control seemed to be lacking in Kentucky (for the most part). But I wouldn't blame this one on them . At the same time I wouldn't send my unit out to them. LOL.

You're like the Bob Ross of board repair.
I used to work at a Geek Squad. One of my "favorite" stories from working there was when one of the techs put a new PSU in a desktop case for a customer getting a GPU upgrade. After installing the PSU into the case it began overheating and failing. The dude spent a week trying to fix the issue and tried a few different PSUs which all did the same thing.
I finally got fed up with telling this customer that their shit wasn't ready, and so I decided to wait until after close and the techs were gone and open the case to see what was wrong. This dude had been facing the PSU fan INTO THE WALL OF THE CASE, blocking airflow. - _ -
I really like that you talk with the boards you repair. I always do that with the systems I work and have fun with. Even if others just look at me like I'm stupid I don't care. I just think you have to be nice and polite to things you're about to touch to calm it down :)

The amount of love for that solder wick was something special. Good wick is a beautiful thing.
Where I use to volunteer at a recycling center doing laptop repairs, we had a customer bring in a laptop that went to Best Buy first. They left their test disk in the drive and it was the most generic free software for testing computers. They said "buy a new laptop". We had them out the door the next day with a working laptop.
The schematic only shows four terminals on the Q7010 because the six drain pins are connected together on the underside of the SI5419DU PowerPAK. There's one gate pin, one source pin and a source pad underneath.
his point is that the board view should reflect the actual physical layout, which includes an 8 pin package with most of the pins coupled. instead of 4 pins on the board view, it needs that 8 pins+source as you see it on the board, otherwise you could be wasting time figuring out what pin is where.
Something went seriously wrong in both that layout file and the schematic. Schem symbols should call out which pin #s go where, and that footprint in layout is worse than useless because it's misleading Louis and other debuggers.
Louis takes UA-cam's demonetizations and runs with it.

I have never found anything besides this relaxing to watch hope your having a good new year every one
I work for Geek Squad and I just want to let everyone here know that any physical repairs that need to be done on Macbooks, iMacs and Mac Mini are sent directly to our service facility in Kentucky. None of the Geek Squad locations are allowed to do any physical repairs on them and that includes hard drive replacements.
that's why you shouldn't waste your time on geek squad

I enjoy watching your vids. I enjoy learning and watching the repairs and your good sense of humor.
Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no".
I remember when I had just graduated college with a BS in computer science I wanted to get a job into some sort of computer field. Having little luck I applied for GeekSquad. I was denied. They said I wasn't a good fit. I later found out it was because I was over qualified. They really only wanted to hire people who liked computers but had no credentials/certifications/experience ect... That way they can pay basically minimum wage or just above it. Luckily a week after being denied by geek squad I got an IT job paying much more, and got my foot into the door. I don't do IT Support anymore but still in the IT industry. Thanks Geek Squad for denying me so I didn't make a horrible mistake xD.

louis, thank you for following through with you soldering and component managing technique. it keeps me in good practice getting through EE and my degree.
I work for GS and I constantly watch your videos. This just makes me sad and makes me wish I could do something...
Do you work at the service center or do you work in the precinct. I am an ARA at the local store and just the other day we got back a laptop that was sent out for a cracked screen which was replaced. I received it in Nova and proceeded to make sure they did the work correctly and nope whoever did the replacement didn't even snap anything in place. Also had someone send out a camera for regular cleaning and they scratched the screen badly and somehow managed to damage the SD card slot.
I just want to let everyone here know that none of the Geek Squads inside Best Buy do any physical repair's on Macbooks. They all get sent to the service center in Kentucky.
@@satanicaleve I'm partial CA and ARA but yeah it's crazy how bad the service center can be and it worries me on things like this that we aren't able to check upon receiving things back from them. I had a macbook pro sent out 3 times for the same problem then have the service center say that it was the precincts fault for mis-diagnosis even though all 3 times repairs were performed. Even more so, COD "repairs" are expensive because the service center doesn't repair boards, only replaces unlike Rossman.
@@Mike-sl3bw yeah, the big issue is with board replacement companies no one needs to really understand what they are doing. you can take anyone and show them how to open a laptop to replace a board, they don't even have to know what the connectors are for, just that they need to be put back. actual component board repair needs real diagnostics skills and knowing what everything does, not something bestbuy would be willing to pay people for.
@@wyattroncin941 Exactly, well said.

Your intelligece , candor and humor creates a wonderful learning curve for me , thanks bud have a great day eh .
Anyone else waiting for him to make a video on the bent ipads?
Does he really need to? The fucktards put structural weaknesses at the exact locations of highest moment under bending with NO additional reinforcement - OF COURSE THEY BEND!
For the uninitiated, the highest moment, or highest bending moment (or torque) location in a beam under a bending load (good enough approximation here!) is also the area of highest stress in the material. It's where you skookumify the living crap out of your part after lightening it everywhere else, otherwise it WILL fail. That's why some steel bridges get progressively thicker towards the middle, then thinner once past it. The thickness also typically follows the shape of the moment curve for a beam with two supported ends and a mean load in the middle. Distributed loads work similarly.
Apple however are special and appear to be convinced that the laws of physics do not apply to them. Hence bending SHITE.
Been trying to long screw the short hole for a while, but can't past the locktite.
Use more flux.

NEVER take a laptop to Best buy for repair. Best Buy corporate refuses to pay decent wages or pay for proper training.
Same with Apple Genius Bar employees. The reason you almost always only see 20-30yr old employees is because you get paid more working as a normal hardware store employee at Bunnings (Australian thing) than fixing computers
