If you notice Daemon never stands for Alicent. He’s the smartest character in this show/book. He knew from day one the HighTowers were a threat to his family. Viserys was a fool for not listening to Daemon when he warned him about Otto. In the book when Daemon got a letter from a messenger about Viserys marrying Alicent. He was so pissed that his brother was marrying the daughter of his family’s enemy. He had the messenger whipped so many times he almost killed him.

Also the living in the red keep was causing friction between her and her step siblings. Daemon was mad at his brother for repeatedly being blocked from positions of authority within the court and being forced into a marriage did not like. Daemon at this time had children with Laena Velaryon so he busy helping raise them on their island. He also had children with Rhaynyra that he was also rasing so he and she were fairly busy at this point. There's Laenor's/Harwins kids who they also were raising on top of all that.

    • @gerardjagroo
      @gerardjagroo 11 місяців тому +22

Daemon did want all out war, he'd been planning it for years
After Viserys made Rhaenyra is official heir he made a point of seducing her.
The trip to the brothel was planned by Daemon.
He lured her out and as they approached the brothel _he deliberately removed her hat_ so that she would be recognized.
When the scandal broke, he was hoping that Viserys would rush marry him to Rhaenyra to hush up the scandal, instead Viserys was pissed.
The whole point of this plot is for Daemon to marry Rhaenyra (Viserys named heir) and get one step closer to his real objective, the Iron Throne.
There was also an element of grooming. The book said he would flatter and give her presents from a young age, with some accounts going so far to say he slept with her
Do you notice in the brothel, he kissed her and then stopped?
This was to awaken her lust and leave her wanting for more. This was in service to his long term goals
It also explains why he was so furious when after Viserys died, Rhaenyra showed reluctance to start the war and he choked her
I think his plan was to eliminate all of Viserys sons, crown Rhaenyra and then quietly eliminate her Strong bastards in a series of unfortunate 'accidents' leaving his own sons to inherit.
So yes, Daemon was planning for the war for a long time.

Daemon sees this again and would greatfully be a second Maegor if it ment removing the Hightowers from court permanently and putting the faith under the heel of the dragon dynasty ensuring the house of the dragon stayed strong and the iron throne under their asses for the next 200yrs. Not true. Maegor saw the Faith as a Threat cause the Andals and First Men don't like siblings getting married, or Polygamous marriages.
The Faith could've removed the Targaryens from the Throne a long time ago. Tne fact that House Targaryen lasted for 3 centuries despite the Faith of the Seven and Oldtown as a whole still existing should say enough
Maegor was NOT what House Targaryen needed. The only good thing he did was order the Dragonpit be built, that's it. Jaehaerys stopped the Faith. How? By making a deal. He respected their customs, they respect Valyrian customs, and no more polygamous marriages. No one else had to die. Jaehaerys named one of the Faith Militant as part of his own Kingsguard, which says a lot
The Hightowers weren't the villains during the Conquest either, the Targaryens visited Oldtown before Aegon's Conquest (Aegon and Visenya did) and when he finally came back after the rest of Westeros save for Dorne bent the knee, guess what?
Oldtown opened its gates, the Hightowers welcomed them in, and the High Septon anointed Aegon as the true King of the 7 Kingdoms. The High-King of Westeros
And since when has oppressing people and not allowing them to practice their faith a bad thing? Half of the Targaryen kings practiced the Faith of the Seven as well, so... what's the main issue here? 😅

    • @masterplokoon8803

Aegon, Aemond, and Daeron are Targaryens you know? And neither Aegon nor Aemond seem to care much about the faith of the seven. House Targaryen would still be on the throne and dragons would still rule Westeros. And within one ir two generations any Hightower influence on the throne would be gone. And Maegor start a war with the faith that resulted in nothing but in thousands of dead, guerrilla warfare throughout the kingdom waged by the faith and a ruined realm with a massive financial debt. Jahaerys didn't benefit much from his uncle's reign, he actively had to fix the crap that he did.

The moment aenys died is when visenya brought maegor out of exile to fix his mess cause I highly doubt the faith would’ve accepted aenys son and daughter as king and queen since that was the problem that the war started on in the first place. Younger Daemon was able and battle ready on.the back of a dragon that had known war. Daemon allowed himself to be exiled by Viserys with no pushback. He allowed to have his title as heir taken, with really no pushback. Corlys is ambitious, how much prodding would it take for arrange a marriage between Daemon and Laena? Something that happens anyway. This gives the Velaryon fleet, Meleys, Seasmoke...and Vhagar. So yeah...Daemon could've wiped them out easily but he never did. No they do not. It's terrible isn't it? Especially Daemon doesn't express guilt or remorse. Daemon is written a bit sociopathic. Very charming, very emotionally immature, shows no remorse or guilt, selfish, low in empathy. In show canon he must be around 50 years old.
Rhaenyra has narcissistic traits. Most normal teenagers would have celebrated their little siblings birthday/nameday, but she didn't even want to leave tge carriage, because no one was there for her. She gaslighted Alicent in Ep 7. She lies as well. First she says it was an accident, then that they were attacked and forced to defend themselfs, then she makes it seem as if Aemond activly went out of his way to go to Luce and Jace and call then bastards and that he commited the highest of treasons, then she asked for her little brother to be tortured. And after lying and asking for an injured child to be tortured Alicent loses it, she flips it around "now they see you as you are". But she is the person causing Alicents reaction. It's textbook gaslighting.
So I don't think they actually feel remorse or guilt much.

Let me flip that script though. Imagining coming home from university and discovering your father is far more sick then he was before. On top of that your step mom has taken over the running of the house in his stead. However she also redecorated, took down all the family pictures, heirlooms, trappings of your childhood and turned your room into her personal yoga studio. On top of that she moved your dead mother ashes off the fireplace mantle and into the back of the garage or attic. Then she replaced it with picture of herself, your dad, and your step siblings. It’s funny you mention this because I also thought it one of the (admittedly few) scenes that was predictable and kinda redundant.
I suppose there was one good element of foreshadowing, when Rhaenyra suggests to Daemon that perhaps they should bring their own maester to see him. I love Alicent as a character, however if we’re being realistic with ourselves, there is a very real likelihood (and reasoning) for Alicent to have Viserys die on suspicious grounds. The day Otto is fired, he warns his daughter that the King will not live long. I think the exact quote is “It may be a year or several but he will not live to natural old age” or something. I don’t know, I personally interpret that as a (cruel) hint for her to wake up to the danger she will be in when that time comes. Viserys’ mysterious illness kinda is kept at bay and at least appears naturally progressive while Otto is in exile. The utter speed and advancement of failing health plummets as soon as Otto returns.
Another hint that Alicent has become complicit in the machinations of her father and his affiliated Citadel/Hightower maesters is the very fact that she’s become religious enough to redecorate the Targaryen throne room and keep with stars while wearing one around her neck is pretty balsy for a character like Alicent. In other words, she is not at peace with herself and feels deep guilt.
In fact, now that I type all this I realize the only purpose of such a scene is to set the stage for an upcoming revelation that might later be unearthed. I mean all the unusual behavioral shots of the maesters is such a recurring thing through the entire season. I find it almost unrealistic to expect that to not amount to meaning in the following seasons. I reckon the true surprise will be Alicent’s complicity.

The real villains of the story are the faith. In this part of the Targaryan history, the Hightowers were their loyal servants and they did their job so well they almost erased the Targaryan line but they won nonetheless by killing all Dragons.
It's not about supporting Rhaenyra or Aegon. That wasn't the root of the conflict.

You know i stopped liking ryhenea the moment she lured that knight into her room to have sex . She was just a child at that time but still she lured him in because what daemon took her into some disgusting place and kissed her 1. She is just a spoiled girl

I don’t like how in this show, people who don’t have dragons are just way too cocky. Like when Otto confronted Daemon over the egg, they somehow someway forgot he had a fire breathing dragon with him on an island full of dragons. They’re unintelligent people, Daenerys was way better than any person in this show. Well, not Daemon. I like that man 😮‍💨😈

Tell what you want about Daemon, but he really cared about his family legacy...You have this Hightower family who is extremelly ambitious, and pretend to be under some higher power, i said somewhere in the reddit before Targaryens should have stuck with Targaryens ( its incest i know blame GRR Martin not me) but on political level, Hightowers was an westerosi family, who had citadel of high maesters in oldtown, something tells me they just wanted to get rid of so called foreign Invadors and their dragons...

Ppl in this comment section really forget why rhaenyra moved to dragonstone in the first place? Alicent bullied her and her sons for years and after that eye accident even I don't want to visit the place ever again.
Why tf torture yourself to a family meeting if you know the host is not even like you and want your sons death ?

She bullied her. When?was rhaenyra a no body that she could not do anything about it. Her father is king but she can't tell alicent to stop hurting her kids
Her father is king they have the same blood did she really think that Vesris will let his queen hurt her his own blood his daughter and then she left her father again knowing that he was really sick

The one saying bs is Daemon. He didn't bother to visit his brother for 6 years while he was gravely ill and only showed up 6 years later to use his authority to clean up his political messes and he has the audacity of insulting the person who has actually been taking care of Viserys through his illness and trying to ease his pain for all this years. If I was in Alicent's shoes I wouldn't be as diplomatic as she was.
