- Morbid: The Lords of Ire Demo - Morio the Man-Eater Boss Fight (No Damage Taken). Just a quick video of some gameplay from the demo of an upcoming soulslike named "Morbid: The Lords of Ire", defeating the boss in it while taking no damage. Details and thoughts below.
I'll be honest here, as you can probably see, it's not the most stunning looking game. It feels a little janky, and looks very outdated compared to modern games. That being said, the combat is surprisingly quite fun, particularly the riposte system and how smooth that feels. It feels very responsive when using the riposte on most attacks. So much so, I'd go as far as to say that the combat feels more responsive than Lords of the Fallen 2023 did for me a lot of the time. The more I played it, the more it grew on me. At first I'll admit I didn't really enjoy it, but by the end of the demo, I'm looking forward to more.
As for some feedback on the game, the dodge and movement does feel a little off. Attack animations, particularly the "critical" R2 attacks don't look quite right too. There's a few bugs I ran into during my playthrough, one gamebreaking bug where it'd crash everytime I'd riposte. Another being the gems (rune?) system would lock out for me when trying to change them. Enemy placement could also use a little work too, it's particularly annoying having to deal with 2-3 melee enemies while a ranged enemy is also up on a cliff. Lords of the Fallen was terrible at that, and I think that's something to be avoided.
Regarding the boss fight itself, it's fairly basic. It's a decent fight, but obviously being the first boss of the game, the moveset isn't going to be too over the top. I had fun playing it anyway, even if it's quite forgiving.

I ended up playing it on PS5, as unfortunately there's currently no resolution settings on PC, and it was set at a strange resolution of something like 2100x1234. Hopefully that's something to be changed soon.
Anyway, the game has a lot of charm, and has potential going forward. I saw the trailer popping up for this a while back, and it looked interesting to me at the time. What really sold me was seeing the Steam discussions for the game, where the devs seem quite active and open to feedback. That's always a good sign for any game for me, so I hope they continue to take on feedback and the game does well. There's some decent foundations, so building on that and it should be a fun time.

Your thoughts remind me of my time playing Thymesia. The combat system and overall concept of the game is well thought out and really cool in my opinion. But the combat itself kinda misses some of that polish. It’s missing that feeling of impact when you strike. To be fair it’s an indie game, and overall I think it’s a good title and if you like the souls genre it’s worth a shot.
Now that you beat Morio, you'll have to fight Louigi next.

Any game that has boss fights catches my attention, I agree with you in that it doesn’t look very flashy, but hey, it’s free so I’ll give it a go.

Fortunately I got to this boss within Steams 2 hour time limit and got my refund. Dumbest boss mechanic ever!
So funny how boss transformations are such a trope its basically expected in a souls clone. Destiny raid bosses would be more interesting if they had a transformation phase but you know bungie wouldnt do it because its basically an additional boss design.

Great gameplay. But this game looks like ass lol.
possibly one of the worst games I ever played. Im all in for indies, but this is just a broken, unfinished, unpolished garbage. In the snow trail after a long and tedious walk through snow, this broken mess glitched and yeet me off when I was crossing the bridge. The camera screws you up like 99% of the time. Also the fact that there is no way to kill the snipers from distance is just stupid. Hard hard pass, not even on PSPlus! 🤮🤮🤮
