I use Visual Studio, followed by VS Code, and then if I need to make a quick edit and have the terminal open, Vim. And if I only need to view a file, Notepad++.
I don't know code, but I'm going to take a class in college in a few days. Can someone explain what the deal is with the users of vim, nano, emacs, etc? I used vim and nano as text editors only, so I have no idea.
Emacs and vi (and vim) have a longtime friendly rivalry. You can search Editor War to know more about it. But nowadays they are most often allies and represent a great portion of the FOSS community against Proprietary and not free (as is freedom) editors, such as JetBrains and VS code. Nano is kinda just there. Is not the first option for most people, but for small editing can be quite useful and it is installed by default in most linux distros.
They have a lot of beef over whose is better. They're all functional and customizable to some degree. The hotkeys have lived on in other environments too like emacs hotkeys in XCode, the IDE for IOS/MacOS development.
I write code in Beats™: I first convert the code in binary, and then I beat one's ass for 0 and another one's ass for 1, and a slave compiles it in their mind.
vim users: "I've been learning this for like... 8 years." vi users: "I've learned this for 1 year and used it for 45 years. Now I have 15 grandchildren and I still use vi."

I create a new file, press f2 to rename it, and then write all my code there. No stupid buttons, no icky shortcuts, no bloated exe, just pure coding.

I use Visual Studio, followed by VS Code, and then if I need to make a quick edit and have the terminal open, Vim.
And if I only need to view a file, Notepad++.
I don't know code, but I'm going to take a class in college in a few days. Can someone explain what the deal is with the users of vim, nano, emacs, etc? I used vim and nano as text editors only, so I have no idea.
Emacs and vi (and vim) have a longtime friendly rivalry. You can search Editor War to know more about it. But nowadays they are most often allies and represent a great portion of the FOSS community against Proprietary and not free (as is freedom) editors, such as JetBrains and VS code.
Nano is kinda just there. Is not the first option for most people, but for small editing can be quite useful and it is installed by default in most linux distros.

They have a lot of beef over whose is better. They're all functional and customizable to some degree. The hotkeys have lived on in other environments too like emacs hotkeys in XCode, the IDE for IOS/MacOS development.
