just a question did patricia pronounce her last name as rout lage or rutledge as i've heard it all these decades? i know its spelled that way but i've always heard rut lidge or rut lage.
Patricia has brought so much joy to millions of people worldwide with Keeping Up Appearances. I'm another one that can watch the series over and over again. I never get tired of it.
I love Hyacinth, I could watch her all the time and never tire of her. I live in the US and am so grateful PBS brought her into my life. Many thanks for the laughter you bring.
I so miss those wonderful British Comedies that PBS presented here in the US. Saturday night was always reserved for these special delights. Mrs. Bucket was one of our favorites. Also The Good Life, To the Manor Born, The Minister, etc..The comedy scene here in the US has totally deteriorated...Thank you for all delights of the past...
One has to wonder if Her Majesty has ever been tempted at least once to answer the telephone with, “Hello, the Windsor residence, the Lady of the house speaking!”
Oh, I'm sure the temptation is there, but the name Windsor doesn't lend itself to the emphatic octave leap with the accent on the second syllable. It is documented that HRM has a lively sense of humor, but that she is subtle in her expression of it. I can imagine it, but I don't think, though that would actually.... Maybe it's on her Bouquet list, perhaps for All Fools' Day?
Patricia Routledge rocks!!!!! I love this lady. She's turning 90 real soon. So sad to hear of Clive Swift's very recent passing. Such an adorable couple.
It's insulting to suggest Hyacinth has finally made it by meeting the queen. She made it long ago and, in fact, has done a great deal more in her life than the useless bloodsucking royal family.
@G. Strauss: I hope you realize that Hyacinth IS not real! She is a FICTIONAL character, so I suggest you get a real life, and stop using your admiration of this FICTIONAL character to be hostile toward the royal family! SOME people! smh
Tim Daugherty: "Rose!!! your skirt's too short!!! Didn't Rose once say, "I'm going to be a virgin again" when she was going to be dating Mr. Honeywell???
I will give it a big thumbs up for my belated and beloved mother. She was a huge fan over the decades `70`s, `80 s, and `90`s of brilliant TV sitcom that Patricia Routledge delivered. My late mother was born in 1927, much the same era as Patricia Routledge. R.I.P. to a great generation.
Well, Hyacinth can finally lord it over that Barker-Finch woman! Only thing better would have been if Daisy, Obslow, Rose, and Daddy turned up at the theatre.
yeah this trumps everybody she ever tried to get their attention and impress...Barker-Finch, the Major, The Vicar, C. Douglas Chater, the Old Sea Dog Captain who was worse than the Major with his fast hands.... the list goes on and on so funny
"If there's one thing I can't stand, it's snobbery and one-upmanship. People who try to pretend they're superior. Makes it so much harder for those of us who really are."
Well, why shouldn't we assume that Hyacinth could have ended up choosing exactly the same outfit that the Queen would have chosen? After all, Hyacinth's Queen Anne corner cabinet IS an exact replica of one at Sandringham House!
Hyacinth is a force of nature to be reckoned with, indeed! I wonder if she said, "Elizabeth dear, coffee as usual but do be careful not to spill it. You will have a beaker as usual. I don't want to risk having a cup broken from my Royal Doulton set with the hand-painted periwinkles. Oh you will have to excuse me for a moment, there's the telephone, probably Sheridan calling his Mummy, or my sister Violet, you know... the one with a sauna, swimming pool & room for a pony". Sorry everyone, just had to :) .
Ribbons & Bows, you didn't miss a thing! The writers really should have written an episode where Hyacinth watches the Queen go by; she would try to get closer, of course, and how would that turn out! One of my favorite shows.
Oh Sarah, you wrote just what I was thinking. I know these events are formal, but what an absolute hoot it would have been for those two (if still with us) to have crashed the event. Unshaven Onslow in his dingy white wife beater and Daisy in the most stylish over the top mini skirt bright colored garb. The Queen deserves to have a few of those fun unexpected things to lighten her day, heaven only knows the rest of us do as well.
Ahhh friends. I must confess. I stopped in at Cirencester (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) enroute to Plymouth in the hopes of seeing Dame Routledge. No such luck. But boy what would I give to sit and have a chat with her. What a treasure she IS!
It doesn't get any better than to see the Queen and Dame Routledge at the same time! Not their first meeting, though. For those of you too young to remember, Patricia Routledge was in a famous 1967 movie with Sidney Poitier "To Sir With Love." She played a schoolteacher named Clinty Clintridge. Clinty, however, is nothing like Hyacinth.
Enjoyed it. Loved the "Keeping Up Appearances" show. I bought it on DVD and watch it every two years or so. Hyacinth just cracks me up! Dame Routledge sure did a wonderful job!

My husband and I (living in S.A) have been ardent fans of "Keeping Up Appearances" for many years on T.V. here. Then our daughter in the U.K. sent us the DVD series. Even in episodes we have watched many times, we find new things about which to laugh.

Right now I'm watching "Keeping Up Appearances", bought the complete set. Really, non-stop laughs; all actors played their parts so extremely well. This series, as well as "Fawlty Towers", is one of the supprting towers of British TV comedy. Wonderful ! Warmest wishes to Dame Patricia Routledge ~ I hope she realises how deeply loved she is, for all her acting.
Dame Hyacinth has brought joy and laughter to gazillions of us. Can't say the same for that ol' bat queen. Hey, what do you know? The queen mum was a fan of Hyacinth!
Tony Solorzano But it would be an honour for Hyacinth to meet the Queen, not the other way around. Actually, can you imagine Hyacinth dragging Richard to some event that the Queen will be attending, in a futile attempt to meet Her Majesty? Probably so that she can later boast at one of her candlelight suppers that she's on "chatting terms with the Queen." Or if you really wish to have them meet... Hyacinth: Your Majesty, what a great honour to meet you. I do most certainly hope you can grace one of my candlelight suppers. I am famous locally for my impeccable entertaining. the Queen: *speechless, nods and smiles gently, thanks Hyacinth as she receives the bouquet of flowers from her hand, and proceeds to greet the rest of the rabble* Hyacinth: *absolutely heartbroken* Sheridan would be appalled But of course, it has not been a total loss after all. Hyacinth can now claim something that most people can not: she's (more or less) "on chatting terms with the Queen" and she will let everyone within a 200 km radius hear about it.
I live in the middle of America. When I get too bossy while my husband is driving he tells me "minding the sheep". What a great show. I would have love to have seen this episode!! We need more quality television.

agree
G. Strauss likely means, not "Hyacinth," but the great actress Patricia Routledge, diverse in her roles.
" Rose, I hope you are wearing something suitable for the telephone conversation. An instrument of which I speak to Sheridan."
Tim Daugherty: "Rose!!! your skirt's too short!!! Didn't Rose once say, "I'm going to be a virgin again" when she was going to be dating Mr. Honeywell???

SJ Cohen Oh heavens, not daddy. He might show up naked.
SJ Cohen Oh ho ho ho ho ho.That would have killed Hyacinth
I can't tell you how much I love the Queen Mum watching Keeping Up Appearances over and over again! Hyacinth would be over the moon.
In that show, Hyacinth looked, mannerismed and dressed like a younger Queen Mum. If DPR still acts now, she could portray the nonagenarian QM.
"If there's one thing I can't stand, it's snobbery and one-upmanship. People who try to pretend they're superior. Makes it so much harder for those of us who really are."

Oohh, with your special biscuits, the best in the UK? Looking forward to it, Lady Hyacinth!

I wonder if she will get to use the good China or have to use a beaker?
@@LB-gz3ke Has to be the Royal Doulton with the hand painted blue periwinkles-LOL
Hahaha! I see what you did there! good one
For those of you too young to remember, Patricia Routledge was in a famous 1967 movie with Sidney Poitier "To Sir With Love." She played a schoolteacher named Clinty Clintridge. Clinty, however, is nothing like Hyacinth.
I wonder if she gave her Majesty any tips on how to keep the palace on tip top shape.
Enjoyed it. Loved the "Keeping Up Appearances" show. I bought it on DVD and watch it every two years or so. Hyacinth just cracks me up! Dame Routledge sure did a wonderful job!
Hyacinth is my hero! Love her to bits!!
The best comedy ever. She is truly the queen of comedy.
IN HER OWN WORDS..."i'm just buffing up the cruet".........."for my candle light supper"....I love her series and am buying the entire set.
It's well worth it. You will laugh for years.

patricia routledge is a great actress but also a normal down to earth person too. i use to drive trucks for a living taking a rest in a layby diner one day on the a59 from skipton to clitheroe she came in had a bacon sandwich had her picture taken and was wonderful.
What a great memory!
OMG, imagine Hyacinth meeting the queen, that could have been a funny episode!
My husband and I (living in S.A) have been ardent fans of "Keeping Up Appearances" for many years on T.V. here. Then our daughter in the U.K. sent us the DVD series. Even in episodes we have watched many times, we find new things about which to laugh.
I honestly love your posts and always enjoy reading them in my lonely spare time. I'm so sorry I invaded your privacy, but I'd love to be friends with someone who could share such sensitive post content, which means you're a woman of integrity. I wanted to add you but sending you a friend request without your consent is inappropriate because I'm a public figure and it wouldn't take much either, I'd appreciate it if you send me a friend request now so we can be friends and text better here on UA-cam❤

We in Canada loved 'Keeping Up Appearances' as well. It was and still is a classic. Sadly it has disappeared off of our channels, too bad. Maybe if the stations see this, they may think of bringing it back -- oh please. Thank you and keep on enjoying.
Hello
How are you doing? Hope you and your family are safe
Love Patricia Rutledge! Still love watching reruns of Keeping Up Appearance!
My mother-in-law, who is Romanian, loves Keeping Up Appearance. She has them on video too and watches them again and again.

Nothing more uplifting than watching "keeping up appearances"....this show will make you forget whatever is bothering you and make you laugh and giggle. Patricia is awesome as "Hyacinth".....which happens to be my favorite flower...lol. Not to mention she portrays alot of people I've known over the years.....she just makes it humorous....lol.
Hyacinth Bucket was one of the greatest! What fun they must have had making the series...Dane Patricia you are still so lovely.

She also played Hetty Wainthropp private detective. Great series.
loved that one, too! still have all of them on vhs :(
William Hoffman yes, Hetty was far more entertaining than Hyacinth.
Robyn Jones A completely different character, which shows how versatile she is.
You can't compare. One a sitcom and one a detective series.
and introduced me to dominic monahan (sp?) who went on to many fun roles.
They're both so wonderful!!
Patricia Rutledge is fantastic. I know she was thrilled to meet the queen.
I love that show keeping up appearances. Routledge was a brilliant actress!
Dame Hyacinth has brought joy and laughter to gazillions of us. Can't say the same for that ol' bat queen. Hey, what do you know? The queen mum was a fan of Hyacinth!
I wish Mrs Bucket could have met the Queen; that would have been a feat beyond comedy!
michelle.........hope she kicks the bucket

The Queen: it is an honor to meet you, Mrs. Bucket...
Hyacinth: It's... *Faints dead away as she realizes she nearly corrected Her Majesty*
Tony Solorzano But it would be an honour for Hyacinth to meet the Queen, not the other way around. Actually, can you imagine Hyacinth dragging Richard to some event that the Queen will be attending, in a futile attempt to meet Her Majesty? Probably so that she can later boast at one of her candlelight suppers that she's on "chatting terms with the Queen."
Or if you really wish to have them meet...
Hyacinth: Your Majesty, what a great honour to meet you. I do most certainly hope you can grace one of my candlelight suppers. I am famous locally for my impeccable entertaining.
the Queen: *speechless, nods and smiles gently, thanks Hyacinth as she receives the bouquet of flowers from her hand, and proceeds to greet the rest of the rabble*
Hyacinth: *absolutely heartbroken* Sheridan would be appalled
But of course, it has not been a total loss after all. Hyacinth can now claim something that most people can not: she's (more or less) "on chatting terms with the Queen" and she will let everyone within a 200 km radius hear about it.
Finally Mrs bouquet you did it!
Maybe they can share a candlelight supper together with hyacinths royal doulton with the hand painted periwinkles.
I love Patricia Routledge!
I to love Keeping Up Appearance.I have the complete DVD box set.God bless Hyacinth
I live in the middle of America. When I get too bossy while my husband is driving he tells me "minding the sheep". What a great show. I would have love to have seen this episode!! We need more quality television.
My ex always used to say “mind the pedestrians, Richard!” when he didn’t like my driving.
Let’s hope the Queen reigns for many years to come. In this current mad world she is someone we can rely on, calm, dignified and responsible.
