I would say that the philippine food has a lot of influence from portuguese food! We also have the roast suckling pig (it's called leitão in Portugal) here in Portugal that's very similar to the lechon and we also eat lots of rice! :)
I'm not sure it's derived from the portuguese word but we had portuguese sailors reaching the Philippines several centuries ago, so if I had to make an educated guess I would go with the portuguese influence. In Spain they also have the roast suckling pig but it has a different name (cochinillo) and they slaughter the pig to cook it only 2 weeks after it was born, so it's quite different from the philippine lechon and the portuguese leitão.
Filipe Martins that's really cool! There's some recipes on my mom's side that I've learned are Portuguese in origin (like the bacalau). I'm trying to trace my ancestry to see how those recipes got passed down.
Filipe Martins I'm going to Lisbon in September for two weeks and I plan on eating at all the places mark did during his trip there! I'm SO EXCITED to try that seafood restaurant that looked so amazing. Can't wait!!!!

These are from three years ago and I just enjoyed it. Watched the Binondo part first and I was initially disappointed that maybe Mark had no idea where to get good food. Luckily, Binondo's savior who is also a fan of Mark's showed up and tour him all over the best of the best places to get grub in Binondo... Great food. Great host! :) BTW, with the Binondo part they almost never spoke Fiipino. Maybe That was Hokkien or Cantonese... That would make sense since they are in Binondo. Also, in Pampanga, Mark talked about how oily some of the goat dishes were. As a person who interacted and lived in the Kapampangan areas I can say that maybe it wasn't the goats faut for the dish being oily. The Pampangos are known to love food that's a little more greasy compared to other places in the Philippines.. t's a good greasiness though. I love it too. Over all, good food, great host, great channel! Kudos Mark! COme back to the Philippines as soon as COvid's over.... :) :) Sawadekap!

Hi Mark,
Just a little tip! whenever you eat Sinigang.
Don't forget to ask for fish sauce and chili as your dip in sauce. With that combination you will be able to experience the ultimate Sinigang taste. ;)
You're the best Mark! Love here in Phillipines! :D
Thank you for watching!
Mark Wiens
Hi Mark! I'm a new subscriber! How come u didn't show the classic "sauce" that is typically paired with the LECHÓN??????? Also, this video seemed "rush!" U didn't take time in describing the dishes, such wonderful dishes!!!😌😔😞☹️😟😔😔

welcome Philippines sir mark in careful always sir very nice food trip I like your videos sir god bless you sir
Thank you Joy.
welcome sir
These are from three years ago and I just enjoyed it. Watched the Binondo part first and I was initially disappointed that maybe Mark had no idea where to get good food. Luckily, Binondo's savior who is also a fan of Mark's showed up and tour him all over the best of the best places to get grub in Binondo... Great food. Great host! :)
BTW, with the Binondo part they almost never spoke Fiipino.
Sawadekap!
Thank you Mark for showing our food to the world!
I love it so much when mark tilt his head 😂😂😂❤️
