CEBU, PHILIPPINES - Today I’m meeting up with my friend Carlo from @KalamiCebu and we’re going to Kuya Simo's Larangan, where they have arranged some giant seafood to cook! They specialize in fish soups known as Linarang or Nilarang. We’re going to see the entire process, and the entire feast is coming up for you right now!
Kuya Simo's Larangan (goo.gl/maps/QWDbdGBZL5txwM9T7) - First of all, a huge thank you to Kuya Simo's Larangan and Jeffrey for hosting us. They went above and beyond and got some huge local fresh catch, a giant fish, giant groupers, and giant moray eels to cook the soups for the day. We also had a couple of octopus which they made adobo octopus - one of the greatest dishes of the Philippines.
After preparing the fish, they started cooking. Linarang starts with ginger and garlic and then tomatoes, tamarind for sourness, and the fresh fish. It’s a delicious fish soup that eats almost like a stew because it’s slightly thickened. They also specialize in dry pork adobo where giant chunks of pork are marinated and deep fried.
Kuya Simo's Larangan is extremely popular and when it becomes 5 or 6 pm in the evening, people start to pour in for dinner. It was an amazing environment, packed house with so many people there to eat a local Cebu dinner.
Thank you all for coming and it was truly an incredible food experience in Cebu, Philippines - some of the best Filipino food!

It's insane to see people actually came to that place just to see you and bring food for you. That's really awesome.
Mark is so thoughtful. He wanted to make sure it's not super spicy, so others can enjoy it too. Requesting for a separate spicy plate for himself. 😊
Philippinos are the nicest and friendliest people I’ve ever met. I really would love to go there. Awesome videos Mark so cool!
VERY FRIENDLY PEOPLE IN CEBU WTH GREAT FOOD TOO. ALL THE WAY FROM SOUTH AFRICA.
Thank you very much Litha!
@@MarkWiens @ 2:56 At first I thought that huge Parrot fish was a Giant Wrasse aka Napoleon fish. The female Giant Wrasse can transform from female to Rosie O'Donnell. 🤣
Marks positivity and energy travels so far, look how happy everyone was that he was showing up. When someone truly loves something it's evident
You can give him dog sh!t and he will still make his yummy face for the video 😂

I am from Cebu my house is just a block away… currently now in Europe..seeing this video of mark wiens makes me missed cebu so much… my house is just one block away from this larangan.. that chef with white tomato soup was interesting definitely trying that when in cebu. The people who came and bring food for mark weins just showed how friendly cebuanos are.. hoping to see more of Cebu in your videos mark! The provinces of Cebu , the best restos, and our native delicacies… Cebu is everything ❤
I'm a cebuano living in LA now. For me nothing really beats CEBU lechon...Thank you Mark and Ying for visiting.
Cebuana from the South of Cebu & also living in the suburbs of LA.
Nice to meet you here.
Where’s the best Filipino foods in Los Angeles?
It's impossible to think of Cebu without thinking of good times and great food. Cebuanos just have that fantastic friendliness and warmth that make anyone feel welcome. Thank you, Mark, for featuring this aspect of such a wonderful island.
Everyone is so nice and amazing. I definitely need to visit the Philippines one day. People asked me if i was from the Philippines all the time.
Cebu is one of the exotic food spots in Philippines, they are the only one who is eating dishes with mais and rice is put in banana leaf called pungko. There dishes are different compared to all the provinces in PH.
The rice in banana leaf is called "puso" not pungko.
rice in coconut leaves not in banana called puso
Fyi it's not a banana leaf it's a coconut leaf
haha sorry hindi kasi taga dyan
Pungko means forward sitdown ....also doku means vow down....the system of eating on this street food makeshift table is called pongku pongku or doku doku...they also call it mcdoku or mcpongku because you eat in low table and low chairs...in manila pongkupongku or dokudoku is called toru turo but eating in standing position and minus the puso hanging rice....normaly puso is wrapped in coconut leaves but some resto are using plastic wrapping...puso is also present in malaysia and indonesia...
So incredible.. I thought Marc already took us to the seafood peak in the Philippines, but this is just pure insanity 😅 And that deep fried adobo pork... dear lord! The deliciousness is just overflowing.. I need to go here!
Now i really want to go eat in Cebu . Missing the Philippines😇😍 - 🇺🇸🇵🇭▶️
This is one of the Happiest i've seen you guys celebrating the art and respect of culinary! I enjoyed this SO much!
Thanks so much Mark for bringing US ALL along with you!
That giant fish is called Bumphead Parrotfish, in my place Mactan, we called "Talaungan". Parrotfish has a big role in maintaining the health & diversity of our corral reef ecosystem. Parrotfish are the one responsible in shaping the beautiful reefs in the islands of Cebu 🐋🏖️🏝️
Diba illegal ang pagngingisda ng parrot fish?
@@syntaxerror9692 it is classified Vulnerable in IUCN Red list of Threatened species. Tama po kayo, pero depende po sa mga LGU kung gaano kahigpit yung implementasyon. Sa Palawan po , mahigpit sila , multa / kulong ka kapag nahuli
Hey, good to know! Thanks! 🙂👆
cebu must also implement it. for illegal fishing of parrot fish.
@@mrteam2024 in fairness naman po sa mga fisherfolks , karamihan po samen iniiwasan namen yan hulihin , kase sabi ng mga matatanda , huhuli ka nyan ng isa,...isang linggo ka din bokya sa laot 😁

Thank you Mark for visiting my hometown Cebu..
The white tomato soup is what appealed to me the most
over all that dutty seafood.. ya, definitely.. and i don't even like tomatoes eitther lmao. :D
Chef Mark here brio. I would walk miles for Octopus prepared in any form. Obsessed w/ the texture, and flavor. Octopus has endless applications in a dish. Cheers from West Virginia USA.
Mark one of these days I can travel to the Philippines to try out the cuisine made my mouth watering.
I think Cebuanos are the most fluent English speaking province in the PHilippines. Imagine ice candy vendor sounds like a call center agent. I will not be surprise even a pedicab driver can speak English fluently.
Thanks
most Sebwanos & Sebwanas they actually prefer speaking english than tangalog, they can express themselves a lot better speaking in english than tangalog which many of them find to be tongue twisting & nose bleeding very repetitive syllables in tangalog.
Happy and Prosperous New Year to Mark, Ying, Micah, and Everyone!
Hi Mark, love your show. The “alien fish” is the Napoleon Wrasse or bump head parrot fish, they’re endangered and magnificent to see underwater in the wild. We should educate viewers about looking after endangered species. Keep up the good work, but please also be mindful of our living planet!!
Looking at many of his videos, he's not interested in that, just eating anything to get more views and likes.
That’s my favorite food blogger there mark weins in my hometown CEBU!
2:29 DANG, that's one massive goliath grouper! 😱👍
Mark always makes me smile. Beautiful Filipino people with yummy Filipino food-what a delight.

The size of the wok.... OMG! What an awesome show. So enjoyable to watch, I am also learning a TON for video creation and editing. Thank you Mark!!!
My grandma and her sisters always used barracuda eels for kinilaw raw fish ceviche. But this tinola sinigang looks great too.
That sounds great too!
Thank you for visiting Cebu,,,hope you can stay until the sinulog festival
Mark really is a good dude doing real stuff. I think The cuisine of the philippines is so hard to copy because of the local ingredients and methods are just different. I think pinoy cuisine and the worlds knowledge of it is finally starting to be known. They have traditional food culture that is ancient and shared in some cases with other cultures but certainly done with that pinoy heart and soul. I just got back from Luzon and Antique (on Panay island), and Mindoro. I ate so many delicious things and had so many homecooked meals from the heart there. Truly touched and this is bringing it all back! R&J Bulalo in Mandaluyong was my favorite hole in the wall near manila for a bucket of beers, calamansi juice pitchers and alll the liempo and finger foods and of course Bulalo I could eat. Shout out to Mark for covering the Philippines in such a great way.
Amazing Mark

Cebuanos are one of the best if not the best cooks in the Philippines because they were the first to adapt to some Spanish techniques in cooking which makes it legit. 🙂
