    I just made a version of this with what I have a home! Yummmmmm...
    1 banana
    Ice
    Vanilla unsweetened almond milk
    1/2 C oats
    PB- 2 because I need to lose weight 😊
    Then instead of flax & helms seeds I downed a serving of super seed from "Garden of Life"
    It was delicious!!! I'm fairly new to plant base. And not very active and very petite. So I had to improvise a little bit. Can't believe how good the oats were in a smoothie! Thanks so much for the great idea!

    My body had a reaction towards a protein recovery shake and I was not well for like 3 weeks and was sent to the ER a few nights ago. Found out today from the doctor that I was allergic to something or maybe the protein was just too strong because of all the ingredients. I’m kind of traumatized to try any other protein shake but this one is all natural so maybe there’s still hope for protein shake! Just gotta do it the #Hellah way hahaha! Thanks brother! 👌🏼

    I had this conversation with a guy recently. He said it's better to get protein from animals because plants are lacking in some essential amino acids. I'm like dude...if plants lacked any essential amino acids, then the animals wouldn't exist. Amino acids are mainly for structure, so if plants lacked them then every creature on the planet would be screwed because plants are the *original* source hahahaha. He didn't have much to say after that.
    They teach this stuff in basic biology courses...how do people not get this?

    • @HellahGood

    • @tummyrubber2k939
      @tummyrubber2k939 6 років тому +6

      Sonja V Different animals have different enzymes in their stomachs to break foods down. A cat and a cow could never eat the same diet for this reason without a long period of evolution. You are correct though, you can get all the amino acids you need from just plants. You just need complementary sources whereas with meat you don't need to do this.

    • @20dorko
      @20dorko 6 років тому +5

      S O N J A you should go back to school and start using Internet to educate yourself and not saying bulshit and making a fool of yourself ... Animals have VERY VERY different digestion system, they ARE ABLE to process the cellulose (e.g. horse) and make guess what - yes protein. And now guess if a human body can do this as well . Arguments like "look at the horses they are eating only grass and look how big muscles they have " I like the most. People are so stupid these days.

    Thanks Hellah, that looks good! I like that you use real food. In most research I’ve come across the suggested protein intake for an endurance athlete is higher. Something around 1.8 to 2 gram of protein per kg. Do you feel like an increase of protein might help recovery or is just a waste?

    Great video. I like how you explain that plants are the main protein source. I just told my family think about the biggest creatures ever, plant eating dinosaurs. Calcium is another issue I hear regarding being vegan. I get about 700-900mg of calcium a day through sweet potatoes, kale and split peas. I don't take any calcium fortified plant milk because I saw a NutritionFacts.org video and some people get negatively affected with their hearts from calcium supplements. About protein, I used to not count fruits and vegetables as protein, until I saw the amino acid profiles of fruits and vegetables on this site selfnutritiondata and I saw they have all the aminos we need. In my moderate diet of about 2000 calories I get almost 90grams of protein.

      30 mg (sweet potatoes at 100g), 150 mg (Kale at 100g), 55 mg (split peas at 100g), to get to you recommend amount amount of calcium in a day you would need to either 2kg of split peas, 700g of kale or 3.6kg of sweet potatoes. How do you do that.

    I was thinking of trying a protein or plant based protein shake in the powdered form (considering buying in bulk). I have used Vega (small bag, plant based protein powder) in the past & using the Atkins pre-made protein drinks now, which are little more convenient.
    It looks like you are doing this from scratch, I am sure the extra effort is worth it. They say you are what you eat. I trust foods that come straight from the source, & I guess you can worry less about ingredients either being a mystery or being processed.

    • @HellahGood
      @HellahGood  6 років тому

      Yes! Definitely. I haven't tried vega but a whileee ago I used the orgain powder. It was pretty good but I started to realize I really didn't need the amount that I was taking in and it was going to waste (literally) anyway haha!

    Facts are facts indeed. Animal products are not bad for you. Also, animals are the best way to get marginal land productive ( in the Sahel for example).
    That being said, given where you leave, plant protein are a feasible source of protein that can be produced locally : so kudos to that - especially if you use locally produced ones.
    A plus!

      Eat more dense foods like oats, nuts, avocado, beans, rice, potatoes.

    • @HellahGood
      @HellahGood  6 років тому +3

      Yes I'd recommend the same. I eat A LOT.. and always super calorie dense and high in carbs. I never focus on protein just because I know if I'm eating enough, I'm getting enough. Like Verma said, I eat oats everyday, at least 3 cups of cooked rice a day, 2-3 potatoes a day.. but it's different for everyone in terms of how much they need. Just make sure you eat until you're satisfied and eat whole foods more than anything. Then just make sure you're doing muscle strengthening exercises however often you see fit. I'd recommend 3 times a week if you're trying to maintain

    This seems more like a meal replacement that a protein shake. The purpose of a protein shake is yo get more protein without getting too many calories. This is great as a meal replacement though. Especially for those trying to bulk up.

      I wouldn't say it's enough to replace a meal but for some people it may work. I never agreed with the idea of drinking your protein in a powdered form because you're not getting all the extra benefits along with it (fiber, carbohydrates, healthy fats, etc.)

    Can teenagers be vegan?

    • @HellahGood
      @HellahGood  6 років тому

      Hey Wilson, anything you have the ability to change, you can. However, it does depend a lot on your parents/guardians if they're the ones providing/cooking/shopping. You can definitely make more plant based choices wherever you can make your own choices but there are other factors that may hold teenagers back from transitioning.
