The Snyder Cut: What's New, What's Gone (and More About That Ending) “Zack Snyder's Justice League,” out now on HBO Max, bears very little resemblance to the version of “Justice League” released by Warner Bros. in 2017.
Zack Snyder's Justice League, often referred to as the "Snyder Cut", is the 2021 director's cut of the 2017 American superhero film Justice League. It presents Justice League-the fifth film of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and based on the DC Comics superhero team of the same name-as director Zack Snyder had intended it before he left the production. Like the theatrical release, Zack Snyder's Justice League follows the Justice League-Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and the Flash (Ezra Miller)-as they attempt to save the world from the catastrophic threat of Darkseid (Ray Porter), Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), and their army of Parademons.
Before we consider the possible ripple effects from both the successful and (so far) unsuccessful Snyder-related movements, let's make like Barry Allen and briefly rewind time. The Snyder Cut came out of a confluence of tragedy and dysfunction that set up the original Justice League for failure.
The vision behind 2017's Justice League-which does have its lively moments and does benefit in some ways from better pacing (but is ultimately hurt more by its shortened running time)-is a vision only of bottom lines and quarterly profits. So, yes, ZSJL is the better movie. For one thing, it's clearly a personal work.

The headbutt fight between Supes and Wonder Woman is both goofy and terrifying. At first you’re like, ‘Damn! She tanked that!’ And then Supes reminds you he’s always holding back.

This scene is epic. Love how ZS made this so much intense and real. All those saying why Batman didn’t have a backup plan need to understand that in his mind “he has failed Superman.” He considers himself guilty of Superman’s death, of ringing the bell that summoned Steppenwolf and Darkside. He is not here to fight.

I love this score. I remember not giving a crap about this fight in the theatrical cut and I think it's because that dated Elfman score was drowning out the tension. Here, thanks to this new score, Supes feels SCARY.
