I love how unlike/dissimilar to Thanos that Darkseid is in this film. My biggest fear was that, due to their irl history, Thanos and Darkseid would be too much alike. But while Thanos feels more like a character and a madman, Darkseid just feels like a monster. How his voice sounds like an earthquake, his eyes burning red at all times, the dark and rough hide that is his skin. Dude is more like a dragon than a villain and I LOVE that! He reminds me of the monstrous tyrants from stories like Lord of the Rings and from ancient mythologies. All of this makes sense considering Zack’s biggest influence is Joseph Campbell and real world mythologies typically depict humanity’s worst natures as being like dragons and tyrants. Again, just thought it was cool.
One thing I absolutely adore here is how they correctly utilized the functionality of how the Green Lantern ring works like it did in the comics. For example, if the ring-bearer dies in battle, the ring will detach itself from its former host and go search for a new one. Sure, they could've had the ring-bearer conjure up a sword or hammer, but I think this here is good enough in my book. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I love that little nod to the comics.
@@tylerleach8796 Earth is literally a few sectors away from Oa so Uxas was really on a conquest of his own so it doesn't make a lot of sense for there to be a single green lantern at this battle when there should be atleast a dozen. HOWEVER! If you're a major fan of Green Lantern comics, this makes sense. This battle was around the time when the Lantern Corps was still pretty young and freshly forming, constructs were incredibly difficult to make and required a lot of concentration for something simple so simple. Then there's the fact that he challenged Uxas himself. Modern GL's can't do much damage to Darkseid cuz their power comes from the central battery, the more rings and Lanterns there are, the more the energy gets divided into those rings. The one and only Orange Lantern Larfleeze was once knocked into his power battery, and- without having to even say the Oath had instantly charged to 100,000% charge. So Uxas clearly has to try against this GL in the video but shows that he's handled GLs before (as he baited the GL to shoot a charge out, exposing his hand. Uxas went straight for the ring then killed him immediately.) Zack is very good at environmental and visual storytelling storytelling
Every time I see the Green Lantern there it gives me such chills. Would’ve been nice if he used some actual weapons though instead of just simple beams. Like the giant hammer in the Joss version. Either way his presence here and establishment within the DCEU is so epic! I started thinking about the oath when he charged into battle. Sucks that we’ll probably never see ZSJL 2. Otherwise I would’ve said that I can’t wait to see Hal Jordan.
@@blusoldier018 it could do better but the green lanterns didn't know how to use them properly but the early days should be eons before this battle. The guardians are one the oldest creatures in the universe. The green lantern Corp is very old.
Man coming back to this scene is just so awesome. The shots, the scope of the battle, Uxas' entrance and fight with the Old Gods, beautiful stuff right here.
2:52 it’s the fact that of all the lanterns that could’ve been used in this scene, it’s Yalan Gur, he maybe has like 2 panels in a comic book from the 40s. It almost makes me emotional. And he’s the GUY that went right for Uxas. Rip to an underrated legend.
Yalan Gur was a green lantern who apparently terrorized China because the Guardians temporarily lifted the weakness of the power ring, leaving the wearer vulnerable to his own desires.
Isn't it amazing how this feels so much bigger than the final fight in Endgame? Infinitely more super-beings and superpowered bad guys, but this just mops the floor with it.
Another detail from the great Zack: Uxas is young, full of rage, dives into battle with his spear/axe ready to fistfight his way through..Later, as Darkseid is as majestic as is shown in the comics: Calm, no weapons needed, in full possession and control of the Omega effect, stronger also physically but no fond of meaningless fistfights ( only if needed) walking around with the iconic "hands behind his back" forcing respect in every step...BRAVO!
This scene was a masterpiece! My only complaint is how the green lantern was beat so easily, we need a movie to really show what lanterns can do. He didn’t even use any weapons

With all due respect, this is not only an EPIC scene, but also inspirational as well. It can be assumed that Uxas (who would later on become Darkseid) thought that the armies of Earth would flee after showing them his power, since it would also be assumed that every planet he conquered had very little resistance. And that Earth would have been considered the same since it was deemed impossible for an entire planet to unite under one banner because of so much distain with one-another. But the combined kingdoms of Man, Atlanteans, Amazons, the Old Gods, and a Green Lantern did fight back and drove the forces of Apokolips to flee. It goes to show that 'people' can work together if there can be a slight chance of trust and if there is a common objective.
I don’t doubt how good the scene is but like with all Zack Snyder content, he is great at creating a visual spectacle for a specific scene, but utterly terrible at creating a story to contain them. Name one movie where he created a visually stunning and coherent story? You can’t, 300 doesn’t count. He basically used the graphic novel as his story board and built the move with that. Again I don’t doubt his skill with visuals. He just sucks at writing a compelling story. Get another writer that has no ties with him to create a great script and let him run wild with the visuals. That’s how you create a great Snyder movie.
This scene is cool because Darkseid really doesn't expect to get routed so fast here. He genuinely thought he won the front line, just goes to show you how quick a war can turn.

I honestly think the ring was guna choose him. The way it flies towards him then stops almost as if it was waiting for him to grab it. It makes sense cuz his willpower has to be undeniable. Give the Lantern credit. He managed to hold off Darkseid, who’s on Superman’s level in terms of power, from stabbing him with just one hand while also having just been seriously wounded.
Now that you point that out it is actually seriously impressive. If that lantern had average humanoid strength the wouldn't have been able to have held of darksied for a split second like he did. He must have been quite strong himself.
The thing that bugged me in the entire fight scene was the lack of "creativity" the Lanters have like geez they could make anything and they always choose some dang laser. I do understand that budgeting wise it would add more cost to have more constructs.
To be fair, I think the humans were just there as cannon fodder for the parademons and to keep them off the heavy hitters. Atlantians and Amazons were there for mid-range stuff. The literal gods pretty much focused on Darkseid and the motherboxes (and pot-shots at spaceships). The lantern was a bit too big for his britches though, thinking he could hang tough with Darkseid. In reality he should have just been supporting and clearing a path for the old gods.
@@harishussain7569 They didn't think they'd need them. They didn't see Earth as a major threat and expected them to fold like a cheap suit. Well, he killed Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and enslaved Superman
he’s a little bitch
Yeah... He got his bootie handed to him here lol

Exactly
Zach knows.
the Whedon cut did that too. Plus had the lantern form a construct with the ring whereas here it's just a laser.
@@xrstevenson "So Uxas clearly has to try against this GL" really? Cause it looked like he killed the lantern pretty damn easily.
Wasnt this during the time lanterns didnt know they could create weapons with it yet
During the early days green lantern rings could only grant flight and energy beams.
@@blusoldier018 it could do better but the green lanterns didn't know how to use them properly but the early days should be eons before this battle. The guardians are one the oldest creatures in the universe. The green lantern Corp is very old.
@@blusoldier018 My mistake then
Chris Pine is the perfect candidate for Green Lantern... they seriously could cast him again and be a descendant of Steve Trevor

Agreed!!

Do you realize that they are the same movie?? They tell the same story
-How many times I'm going to watch this scene?
-Yes
I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to be inspired by that lol
I'm inspired....ifonly they had resurrected Mother Theresa who is the most powerful uniting force on mother Earth!! Now that would be EPIC!!

Hell yeah..that reminds me..I have to go watch that scene now lol
I don’t doubt how good the scene is but like with all Zack Snyder content, he is great at creating a visual spectacle for a specific scene, but utterly terrible at creating a story to contain them. Name one movie where he created a visually stunning and coherent story? You can’t, 300 doesn’t count. He basically used the graphic novel as his story board and built the move with that. Again I don’t doubt his skill with visuals. He just sucks at writing a compelling story. Get another writer that has no ties with him to create a great script and let him run wild with the visuals. That’s how you create a great Snyder movie.
Zack may not have pulled off the whole thing, but when it came to the battles he did things that were like our imagination come to life.
Yes, you are the only one, you are completely unique

This scene is cool because Darkseid really doesn't expect to get routed so fast here. He genuinely thought he won the front line, just goes to show you how quick a war can turn.

Darkseid reaching out to try and take the lantern ring was iconic
I honestly think the ring was guna choose him. The way it flies towards him then stops almost as if it was waiting for him to grab it. It makes sense cuz his willpower has to be undeniable. Give the Lantern credit. He managed to hold off Darkseid, who’s on Superman’s level in terms of power, from stabbing him with just one hand while also having just been seriously wounded.
Darkseid was worried about Kryptonians and Lanterns before invading earth. They were the only ones who stood a chance against him.
Why did he use his ring on him? He him someone in the sky

Never underestimate the power of a sword, ax, or arrow against galactic fighting machines and death rays.
